As for the Canaanite Woman spoken of in Matthew 15: 21-28, Jesus encounters a Canaanite woman who begs Him to cure her daughter. Yes it is true Jesus initially refuses her request by saying, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs “ (verse 26). This passage has been taken out of context for so long. Some people have mistakenly implied that Jesus had insulted this woman, however, it’s quite clear that Jesus was is creating a metaphor meant to explain the priorities of His ministry (To the Jew first then to the Gentile). He is also teaching an important lesson to His disciples. The Jews back then referred to Gentiles (Non-Jews) as “dogs”, in the Greek language, this word is “Kuon” meaning “wild cur” (Matthew 7:6; Luke 16:21; Philippians 3:2). Non-Jews were considered so unspiritual that even being in their presence could make a person ceremonially unclean (John 18:28). This was not Jesus’ purpose in saying, “it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to dogs”. Jesus frequently tested people to prove their intentions, often through response questions or challenges (John 4:16-18 and 4:50-53). His response to the Canaanite Woman is similar. In testing her, Jesus declined her request and explained that she had no legitimate expectation of His help. However, the woman lived out the principle Jesus Himself taught in the parable of the persistent widow (Luke 18:1-8). Her response proved that she understood fully what Jesus was saying, yet had enough conviction to ask anyway (See Matthew 15:27). Jesus acknowledged her FAITH, calling it “GREAT” and granted her request (Matthew 15:28). Good question. Upon further studies it appears that there is controversy surrounding not just the character of Josephus as a legitimate/unbiased historian but some theorize that he was actually a fictional character. There are some who call into question particularly those portions where he makes comments on Christ citing that such comments were added on at a later date. Thank you for your comment. I can’t accept this description of Yashua, allegedly from Josephus...which I also don’t believe. If the Messiah was the fulfillment or antitype of a high priest, or lamb without blemish, this description would be inconsistent. A dwarf or hunchback man was precluded from the priesthood (Leviticus 21:19-20). Similarly, sacrificial lambs also had to be physically perfect (Exodus 12:5, 13:2) If they can’t disprove Yashua’s true ethnicity, they try to denigrate Him in some other way. Upon further studies it appears that there is controversy surrounding not just the character of Josephus as a legitimate/unbiased historian but some theorize that he was actually a fictional character. There are some who call into question particularly those portions where he makes comments on Christ citing that such comments were added on at a later date. Thank you for your comment. I can’t accept this description of Yashua, allegedly from Josephus...which I also don’t believe. If the Messiah was the fulfillment or antitype of a high priest, or lamb without blemish, this description would be inconsistent. A dwarf or hunchback man was precluded from the priesthood (Leviticus 21:19-20). Similarly, sacrificial lambs also had to be physically perfect (Exodus 12:5, 13:2) If they can’t disprove Yashua’s true ethnicity, they try to denigrate Him in some other way. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I feel it should be pointed out that nowhere in the bible did it say he was black, or white for that matter. It spoke of him being olive skinned, and that's a stretch to go from one tone of olive all the way to black olive.. if anything, he was most likely closer to Egyptian or Arabic skin tone. But honestly the color of his skin shouldn't matter to any of us.. for the past 100 years or so, we as a collective, have been hung up on race. It should never have been that way.
