- Interested on your take on this. Do you value your time or getting out of debt? I personally have seen health at all spectrums where people maintain their health into their old age while others can have their lives changes in an instant.
The point is - your health is not guaranteed. And I rather take this time now that I have it to be with the ones I love. Do the things that bring me joy. Choosing these over aggressively paying my loans. Is that the wrong decision? Possibly. But possibly not. I can be crushed under a barbell tomorrow 😅 Love to hear your thoughts.

Glad to see you making videos on YT! Thanks for being so open. It’s hard for us physicians to discuss finances and admit we are not “rich” like ppl expect. Can you discuss more about how you budget, love this type of content. Thanks! ❤
I you are willing to be even more transparent about your pay, I think it would be awesome for your to do a video explaining how contracts are written for doctors in terms of compensation models. It wasn't until I was a second year resident that I felt like I had a basic understanding of what an RVU was. It's super hard to compare job offers as a doctor when one is salary based, one is production based, and one is a hybrid that is largely based on quality metrics.
Yes I also felt like I was at a loss. So important things to look at are the RVU multiple. And then, if you know the value for certain office visits like a regular office visit or wellness visit then you can calculate how many patients you would potentially need to see to maintain your guaranteed salary. Some of them are insane like you would have to see 30 patients a day.
I believe 10% of ours is hybrid so that it does depend on the quality metrics. This depends on the population you serve. Some don’t have access to the same healthcare/resources. So this also means that their diabetes and hypertension and other preventative screenings may not be on target. And you will be penalized for that.
Fellow GP mom here. Jenny I love all your contents and I admire you for your candid sharings! You always give me so much to think about and reflect on. Thank you!!! P.S I even made my husband watch the last few minutes of this vid with me.
Is he in medicine?
Thank you for the video. When I was a child I was always told that becoming a doctor is one of the most respected profession. What I didn't know that it cost a fortune
I was told that too. It is a great job but it can also have many downsides
Thanks!
Thank you 🥹
"You don't do anything else". This hits so hard. I don't do anything between my fellowship and kids and workouts either. I think Tonal is expensive too, but I really believe this is something I do for my health (physical and mental). Do what works for you the best.
We’re so boring 😅 but I still feel like I don’t have enough time
The GOVT shouldn't be making so much interest on student loans. It should be capped at 1%.
The interest is insane!
The govts solution to the injustice is to import millions of people with doubtful, unverifiable qualifications, lower wages, ruin communities with a bunch of dodgy strangers and screw you all anyway. Because they’ll vote democrat no matter how bad things get and the mass migration circus continues
The $80 is def worth it! If you downgraded to a more generic gym you may find yourself missing the $80 one. But if the price/distance still bothers you, you can always just continue going to the $80 gym until you find a similar gym that’s cheaper/closer
I’m so glad this isn’t the Dave Ramsey crowd! I can definitely see myself see myself missing the private gym
Loans are so high, might as well be a mortgage. Glad you like your job, and you seem to have a good life balance and are well rounded. Nice to see a video from you, it's bee a while.
It’s more than my mortgage 😭
Hi Jenny, love your vlogs! When you have time do you mind doing a video on elementary school education now that Wyatt and London is in elementary school age? I have a son same age as London and would like to know more about the transition out of toddlerhood. Thank you!
Wyatt loves his public school! That being said, it’s a pretty good public school that’s rated 8/10. The Montessori really helped them be prepared for school in general
Where did you get the drink glass with the lid? it's so cute!
Amazon! amzn.to/4bOYk5w
We need more doctors like you btw you look great
Thank you 🥰
Yes, for you it;"'s worth it for you Dr. Jenny. Reason being you found your community. When you find that , people have that common core of outlook on whatever it may be is golden. Besides you appear happier. Chow
Happiness is always the end goal!
Thank you Jenny😢😢😢
Quality over quantity doc. You can't put a price on happiness. Its well worth it if you ask me. As for the distance, don't think about it, just focus on the fact that you are around like minded people there; which helps increase your focus in achieving more of your lifting goals.
For sure!
$80 a month is very reasonable, especially since you get so much out of it. By all means do it. You have your own community of friends surrounding something you love to do. I go every 6 months to dentist (covered), and instead of using fluoride treatments in office, you can swish with ACT mouthwash daily. Can get at Safeway. It works!
I changed my appointments to every 6 months 😭
We love an ethical doctor !
oh I do those liquid IVs. The gym - I think that is the one cost that you should invest in yourself and the distance gives you time to yourself to unwind and de-stress. Its worth it.
Never thought of that. Just the unwinding is nice too!
hi jenny! - i think the 80 dollars is definitely worth it - just think about how many people spend way more than that each month on stuff that wrecks their health, cigarettes, alcohol, drugs etc - you are spending way less on something that keeps you healthy! plus it makes you happy and you cant put a price on that so as long as its in your budget, i say go for it!!! xxx
Thank you! It does make me really happy.
I personally feel that most jobs have a sense of bureaucracy, having your own business is what allows you to step away from the system or at least be in control
You're great Jenny. It's good to see you're always evolving. Cheers from Italy, Marta
❤️ Cheers!
Great video. Loved the explanation. Girl, you do you. Part time works. I agree with you.
You’re so cool! So glad I found your videos!
I would recommend you list to the white coat investor. They have lots of guests who talk about their plans for paying off their loans from medical/dental school
I’m part of their Facebook group! Have a listen to them in a while though. Have been listening to audiobooks over podcasts during my lifts 😅
You do save money when you don’t do those other things like shopping or eating out often so I agree that you should spend the $80 on the gym!
Pretty sure a private practice has it's own laundry list of challenges but would you ever consider it?
I would have to do more administrative work and that’s not the reason I went into medicine 🥲
Did you ever consider DPC?
I’m providing primary care to an underserved population which I really enjoy. I also spend a decent amount of time with my patients. 30 minutes. Not sure of the additional benefits of DPC? Guess I just haven’t looked into it as much
How is 4000 50% of your monthly salary? Don’t you make like 250-300k? Shouldn’t your take home monthly salary be like 15-20k?
I obviously don’t make that much
@ my apologies. Commented before the video ended
Stick with your $80 gym!!!
I’m realizing that’s probably the right choice.
So for that save that 300k they “forgive” you will be taxed on it. So you should be putting away some in savings or investments for that “forgiveness “ tax bomb
great vid 💪, thomas the train sheesh
I’m surprised that thing still works 😅
@@drjennale I had a question , I just started working at a place where I do a lot of physical movement (lifting20-50lbs consistently )(walking atlease 10k-15k step just at work ) what would u recommend in the case of protein powder n any recovery supplements.
@quiznoz depends on what the rest of your diet is looking like. Supplement with protein shakes are great if you can’t get enough protein.
Legions have great flavors. And I personally really like the mint chocolate chip one from ekko vision. And then my other go twos are clear protein isolate’s just because I feel a lot lighter on the stomach but if I am feeling we’re hungry then I’ll choose a creamier protein powder.
yea my diet isn't that great atm , thank you for the recommendations n advice @@drjennale
Damn, even doctors get screwed by dentist.
I don’t know why this made me laugh so hard. I would have been less upset if the hygienist had some oversight so at least they were learning something. But nope.
It sounds like at one time, you wanted to be a doctor. But life got in the way. Maybe burnout or you just moved on in your head. I was self employed and did not get paid what you currently are getting paid. I worked sometimes 7 days a week to keep it afloat. It sounds to me that your heart just isn’t in it anymore. Change specialty? Kids & family first then job. Put a dent in those loans. They are a dark cloud over you. It’s quality time with your kids, not quantity.
Can you monetize your channel? If nothing else it would help to pay the loans. You deserve it.
Yes! I haven’t posted lately so it’s like $100 a months. But hopefully it’ll be more when I’m more active
Hard to be a patient. Don’t think the doctor has enough time or concern to give meaningful feedback other than prescribe a drug or refer you to someone else. Just sad to be a patient and therefore never be one. Take care of yourself and avoid doctors at all cost.
