One of the nicest and most talented musicians on the planet.
"Anything else you wanna hear?"
Ah, yea. . . about 6 more hours of that sonic vintage heaven. OMG.
I've been playing almost 50 years and feel like I just went to a masters clinic. Lots to think about. Thanks Will, that was awesome.
Will is one of the great session players from called the Swampers. Check out the Musicians Hall of Fame for more information. He also toured with Bonnie Raitt. I met him last October and he was really a cool guy and we talked about his guitars a bit.
I have a '67 Blackface Super Reverb...original speakers, all old RCA tubes, original footswitch. Amazing amp. Had it for 30 years. Sounds great with Strat, Tele...and even my '69 SG Special with a humbucker in the neck position.
Went to High School with Will. amazing to see him (On video) after 40 years!
was a great singer and showman back then as well.
I enjoy experiencing Will and the rest of the Blues Cousel Jam every year at Kingdom bound Festival in upstate NY. Will is a great guy and an incredible player as you can see!
In the 60's i toured with a Fender jaguar and a 4 x 10 Super and it was so special [no effects in those days]
My my... after listening to about 1,000 YT guitar demos, this is my favorite. I'm a certified Tele/BF Super nut and that is a great sounding rig, but the playing is exquisite. Well done, sir.
What beautiful tone. Old Fender amps and good Strats or Teles have a piano-like quality. Simple and pure.
Still coming back to watch this!
Such honest tones, such organic playing! Love the pedal steel licks!
simply beautiful playing. Plain and simple. Makes me happy to just sit and watch. Great job.
@amarr1 the original bridge was horrible, and kept breaking strings right at the bridge, so westwood music in LA put that six piece on in '74, and I've never had a problem with it since. I bought it to play--not collect, and it originally cost me $300.
That's Leo's masterpiece right there..and Will plays it well !
More from Will: "I didn't know it would be collectible, I just needed a good guitar, and it is way beyond good. The bridge pu is stock, and the front went microphonic, so I had Seymour rewind the original magnet in the early 80s.
The natural resonance and harmonic overtones in this instrument are mystical, and it responds to any kind of overdrive without getting harsh. It's been a shootout between it and my '54 strat as to my favorite electric, but the past few years it has won out.
thinking of picking up a Super....this definately helped....love the bridge tele twang!
Ah. A good demo. No muddy distortion. Just crisp Fender tones.
i just bought a '71 super reverb and its mind blowing!
Oh my, that just made my day. Just wonderful. I love those steel bends. Thank you for posting. 'It's the amp'.... yeah, your playing doesn't hurt!! Wow.
Love Will. Its very nice that you put this video out. Thanks a lot! Any more to come?
Fantastic playing!
Greets,
Martin.
I played recently with a blackface....It's something that its really worth its money even if its 1500 and over.....It sounds beautiful and uniquely distorded with humbs and the first vibrato bright input on high volume level. It worths a lot though but.. God blows mind!!!!! Nice vid, cool playing !
I just stumbled upon this video today after thinking that there isn't any good BFSR demo videos on YT. I stand corrected.
What a fabulous player! Superb chops sir!
Will McFarlane... I have never heard of you but you are a MONSTER!!!! Awesome licks.
@MrDJoers
I believe it is an actual 1954. I'll have to check with Will when I see him whether it's modified.
What a fun video! He's such a good player and that Tele through that Super sounds fantastic.
thats a fantastic run at 2:43 , very impressive
What a great sound. Great feel too.
Scored a 67 super last week. 2000 CAD. All orig. Exc condish
Mojo 10" speakers
Tubes are as follows:
GZ34 rectifier tube
2 6L6 power tubes
12AT7, 12AX7, 7025, 12AT7 , 7025 and 7025 pre-amp tubes
That is exquisite tone...great playing as well. Thanks for a top quality video.
I'm a pretty wordy guy, but I'm not sure I can put into words how much I enjoy and appreciate this video:)
Wow you play great!
I checked with Will about his Tele. Here's what he had to say: "As far as the tele goes, it's a '55, one piece ash with a soft v to c neck--truly one of the great necks ever, and many luthiers have taken it's measurements. It had the threaded 3pc. bridge that broke strings and was hard to intonate, so I replaced it with a Schecter 6pc. tailpiece in '75.
I was looking for a comment about the saddles before commenting and this is it. Now I can simply say it's good you posted this video. Peace.
Awesome! Motivational gear and super motivational playing. I love it.
Holly Shit!! I played with him tonight and hes fucking amazing!!
what a player .smooth.
Does this guy ever play a wrong note? Much smile.
That 'o boy sure can play and tickle that Tele! The Super '67 ('65?) reissue is fabulous sounding.
That's a real '67 Super Reverb. Not a reissue.
idiot
@standoverman - Aside from the fact that the vintage super reverb has hand wired circuitry as opposed to the reissue's PC board circuitry. It also has vintage-spec carbon-comp resistors and electrolytic filter caps, solid pine cabinet compared to a plywood cabinet in the reissues.
I've never played through one, but the new reissue's are suppose to be a real fine amp as well, slightly different in tone and reverb as well.
@Superfonz88
Regarding the Super reverb amp: It does have a bright switch but can't remember how it was switched. According to the amp tech that worked on the amp, It is original.
I love your sound!!!
Beautiful
for what what i know is it´s the same circuit with reverb, the reason because the bassman is so pupular is because the influence on another trades like marshall, randall and mesa bowie
The Victoria Bassman based amp is a stupendous amp in it's own right.
I've said it once and I'll say it again: the best tone ever.
I love that smile at 4:25.
damn, that's a whole 'nother level right there.
Compressor is made by FX Engineering. Website is fxeng.com. It is called the Mirage.
Fantastic playing !
You are a amazing guitar player !
You have a nice rig !

I had this exact amp in 1982 when i was 16...I paid $250 for it & even though it looked toasted,it sounded just like this one.Original 6L6's,4/10in Jensens..Now,of course i didn't know at the time what i had,all i knew was i wanted more EVH tone than SRV so i traded this lb of golden tone for a shitty Marshall half stack w/a crappy "mosfet" head...I still beat my own ass every day for letting my 67 blackface go! Ugh!
@BluesRocker52 - Will thanks you for your compliments. Here's what he had to say about your question:
"I don't really know the technical stuff, but there's a reason the Bassman may be one of the most sought after amps on earth.
I've A/B'd mine with the Victoria, and we all liked mine better---I don't know why, because Buddy Guy makes the Victoria sound pretty good :)"
@R0ckers2R0ckers Will said the original bridge was horrible, and kept breaking strings right at the bridge, so westwood music in LA put that six piece on in '74, and I've never had a problem with it since. I bought it to play--not collect, and it originally cost me $300.
Wonderful! The real deal!
a muscle shoal, bonnie raitts side man in the 70" listen to those licks
Volume was very low when Will played.
Also used the camcorder mic on this video.
I also recorded this on reel to reel tape. Sounds awesome!
The Super breaks into the sweet tone around 5 or 6.
If you go to the fxengineering website, you can see him listed as a player using this pedal
This guy doesn’t need shoes when’s he’s got tunes like this!
Oh my god
Heres,a real demo w monster player.
dang whata Licker! Knows some tone!
awesome player :thumbs up
a 55 tele with 6 saddle bridge? nice choice!
Yep. I dig the 6 saddle thing on a tele. They say it intonates more correctly. Not sure tho if thats really true
I love my 67 super :)
i have a late 60's ,early 70's super reverb (i think??)..it has 4 10" speakers and the silver plate behind the knobs...i was wondering how often should you change the tubes????
quality guitar player
Hey Will - what are the amp settings??? Thanks and sounds great
@zifirblues I'll check with Will when I speak to him next.
Yes Lord !!!
Would it be possible for you to tell me everything you know about that tele? The pickups in it, string gauge, pots maybe, etc.? Thank you! (if you know the neck profile and body wood/one piece or two and three too, etc.) Sorry, just curious about some stuff here. Also, that amp, are there bright switches on the channels? Was it on bright or flipped down if so? And, one more thing, if not, was the original bright cap that comes in those amps still in it when he did the demo? Some take them out..
thats how its done!
Love it keep it going
@ecsong187 - Sorry, it's bin a while this video was made. But the setting on the super reverb was not too out of the ordinary.
I believe so. The speakers are marked "Mojo Tone"
Just got a 66 Super, just wondering if you know what compressor Will was using and if that was a Keeley modded TS9 or TS808. Thanks.
I had the bright switch off and the tone knobs on five--just flat.
@freedomman121 I no longer own the amp but as I remember some were Sylvania & Fender.
Output is 40 watts
Plenty loud for just about any meduim to large venues. My favorite fender
I no longer own the amp but with the exception of the speakers, as far as I know, everything was stock.
Mojotone American Vintage 10" ?
vintage blackface tone.
Are those stock Cts alnicos?
I need to know what compressor hes using!!!! does anyone know?
what's the wattage on the super?
THATS MY NAME!!!!
What strings are you using?
i believe it has new saddles those are not vintage fender saddles
seriously, seriously... damn
can i buy some pot from you?
Be a pal and let me have that guitar. I'll be your best pal.
Sorry, sold speakers a few years ago.
*jealous*
The microphone is doing nothing
Sweet rig, playing, and amp dude, but 6 saddle bridge? For shame.
I bet if you put a mop in that guys hands he'd make it sing.
very chordy Dude Right
Sure, Pinto-
Wish the,amp wasn't so dam heavy
