For the people saying the car is loud, you clearly don't know what's the phaeton is known for, it's the camera that has a very sensitive mic, you can even hear the guy breathing.
i was also gonna say tire noise adds as well
exactly what I do not wish to hear :D like he was on the run for the past hour and now tries to contain his heavy breathing :D :D
We had exactly the same Phaeton as this one. It's a powerful motor and I loved the sound of it. But inside the car you could nearly hear it because of the double glass windows. This really was a TOP car!
It does have a pretty powerful v6 though

The most underrated European luxury car in the USA. Too bad we can’t get this superb car any longer here as they were discontinued in 2006. I especially LOVE the TDI version. Bravo VW!!
2015 but can already be considered "old school" luxury car, which is great.
Analogue dials, proper PRND non-electronic shifter, center clock, wood trim, and a modest engine.
A "modest" engine that Porsche used it for their Cayenne/Macan/Panamera :)
I've just bought one in the exact same configuration! 80 000 km, almost new condition, interior still smells like new, I love this car!

@@Phaetonescu yea, you will soon find that this car overengineered, extremly overengineered, and that all of these extras will start to fail and cause headache. the middle class cars don't have these problems, simply because they don't have these extra parts built in them. My friend had Phaeton, I had A6. Yea, they tend to break down, the Phaeton more so than the Audi...they don't called them premium for nothing... you need serious money and dedication to keep these cars in perfect condition. thats why they are so cheap second hand...
@@Corsa15DT You have to take care of them, that's what I've ment with "any other car", when they break down, you fix them! Easy as that. Yeah, you are right, it is extremEly overengineered and better in any way than most new cars, the materials used to build it are high class, attention to detail is EXTREME and it drives like a cloud, comfort is TOP. That's why I've bought it. Prefacelift models had problems, they've fixed the common issues on the facelfit. My previous car was a 2009 Cayenne (facelift) with the same engine (V6 3.0 TDI 240bhp) bought from new and it has covered 250 000 miles (400 000 km) to this day. I also have a friend that has a Phaeton with the same mileage. These cars are TANKS if you take care of them. My Phaeton has only covered 62 000 miles (101 000 km) with one previous owner (72 years old that worked in a bank) he sold the car to buy a new Bentley. I've driven the car evey day on the motorway for the last year, and it runs like a dream, I love it! I've also driven the 7 series, A8 and S class from the same generation, in my opinion the Phaeton is better, but similar to the S class's comfort). I think it's just a matter of taste. For me, this car is more refined, even if it has a VW badge. Also, does it matter if you spend 3-4 k$ on a car for maintanance after 13 years? Some people expect for any car to last a lifetime without even changing the oil, and when they break down they say the car is BAD! Phaeton was 100 000 $ brand new and it shows! It's a cheaper Bentley after all, it's not an Audi A6. :)) BTW all premium cars are very cheap second hand after 10-15 years!. ;) If you can afford the maintanance, you are in for a treat! :) The depreciation was made, so the cost of future repairs doesn't matter in my opinion. You can enjoy true luxury at low price after all! :P For example, on my first year of ownership, I've done a major service on the car, changed oil, all filters (oil, air, pollen, fuel), coolant, brake fluid and brakes (discs+ pads) front + rear and paid 1500$. (on a 100k $ car?) No repairs needed as the car is in top condition. I think it's cheap. 🤔Will it run for 10 more years? We'll see! I will drive it to the South of France this Summer, more than 4000 km, can't wait! :)
@@Corsa15DTI ment any other car needs maintanance. So? What's your point? It breaks down, you fix it! Simple as that, if you can afford it, ofcourse, after all this is a cheaper version of a Bentley, it's not an Audi A6! Depreciation is huge for any other premium luxury car, they all are cheap after 10-15 years. Some people don't even change the oil than complain that the car is faulty when it breaks down. My previous car was a 2009 Porsche Cayenne, same engine as the Phaeton. (V6 tdi 240bhp) no major issues even after 200 000 miles. (320 000 km)

@@euttdsiggh2783 VW North America only imported Phaetons in 2004, 2005, and 2006. Long wheelbase only. 8 and 12-cylinder engines only.

I always find it amazing how safe this car feels at this speed. Its already 8 years old, but it feels as if you're on rails at 250.
What I love is that it doesn't look that much different from a Passat unless you really pay attention to it. It's like a fatter Passat
When they facelifted the passat I think they took a lot of the styling cues from the Phaeton. Especially the rear lights.
If it looks like a Passat then you need glasses.
@@AWMJoeyjoejoe Is there a (luxury) brand where that is not the case? Lexus, Cadillac, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, etc.? All follow a similar design theme. There have been many times where I've mistaken a lesser models for the flagship. So what was the point of even saying that?

These cars are basically a Bentley with a VW badge on. Built in the same factory on the same line. Absolutel steal as a second hand barge, right up there with S Class.

+Brixxlnator Er ist in der Oberklasse halt weniger gefragt. Leute, die hohe Summen auf den Tisch legen oder in den Genuss eines Dienstwagens kommen, greifen in diesem Segment eher zur S-Klasse, A8 oder 7er BMW.

In meiner Familie/Freundeskreis werden glücklicher Weise alle der lusuimousinen gefahren. Mein Vater fährt den A8 3.0tdi. Mein Onkel die S-Klasse 320 und ein Freund meiner Eltern einen 730d. Vor 2 Monaten kam mein Bruder dann mit dem Phaeton 3.0 daher. Man muss es einfach mal so sagen: der Phaeton ist ZEITLOS. Die Verarbeitung PERFEKT, das Fahrwerk ein Traum! ich bin ihn einmal von Dresden bis nach München gefahren und bin hellauf begeistert! Man sitzt in diesem Wagen einfach am besten. Er gleitet wie kein anderer. Man merkt schlicht und ergreifend dass Herr Piëch einen Bentley mit VW-Logo haben wollte um nicht auf einen A8 zurückgreifen zu müssen.

+Xplosion51 nein, der Phaeton rostet nicht nach 2 Jahren... kannst du überall nachlesen. Achso und wenn er doch rostet, dann hat jemand unsachgemäß dran rumgewerkelt! Ich frage mich woher du deine "Infos" beziehst!
VW startet außerdem bei der zukünftigen Version mit dem Elektroantrieb, um eben dem Abgasskandal entgegen zu wirken. Die Diesel und Benziner kommen! Und wieso man sich über einen Elektrophaeton lustig machen muss, wüsste ich gerne! Klar wird er wahrscheinlich nicht gut laufen, aber wenn das Konzept stimmig ist wird auch hier der Absatz in Konkurrenz zu Tesla steigen. Der Plan könnte also aufgehen.
+Xplosion51 welches Baujahr und wie viele Kilometer hatte er runter? Rostorobleme dieser Art ist nur bei Modellen bis 2007 bekannt und ab 2010 komplett beseitigt worden!

As a new car, they made no sense whatsoever. However, as a used proposition, the Phaeton is absolutely astounding value for money. Recently saw a 2013 Phaeton with 40k miles for £14,995 - a car that was close to 4X more expensive value new!
1st owner got f*cked in the arse on depreciation but the 2nd owner, wow. Got a great luxury barge for not a lot of cash.
And you get a lot of technical problems with it, for free !

stashouse617 - VW tend to hold their value very well with the Phaeton being the notable exception.
That's why you buy a 3 year old Phaeton for £40,000 less than it was list merely 3 years ago.
I bought one. This car has presented nothing out of the ordinary in over 2 years and 78k miles (152k now). Nothing has happened with the air suspension (yet) but you can get rebuilt struts for $600 from rebuild master tech, so who cares if it does fail.

Got a 2015 Passat and looking to change to Passat CC... If they sold Pheatons were I live I would try to get one of those instead. I had to edit... Just saw a video of an Arteon is this a replacement for Pheaton? Or a new class on its own?

Matej Vukovic Thanks I just checked it and yeah its the replacement for CC and will be available here too... I got kind of confused with the names given. Also as I like VW and had multiple Passat and Vento cars I just found out they cut out the name Passat from the CC version a considerable while ago and I always refered to the CC as Passat CC.

I've got the model and it's really cool, but with the suspension on the air in the curves it's not good... For the roads in Romania, the suspension is perfect, but to go daily with it is hard because the car is heavy and it turns hard. For those who want to buy, be careful with its maintenance.

A 7or 8 gear gearbox like the A8 has would absolutely fit. 6speed is ok, but you can feel that something misses.

To develop an 8 speed for the 3.0 would cost huge amounts of money
that wasn't a thing yet on this platform... remember the phaetons were on sale in 2003 already... same gen a8 and other cars that use the 3.0 tdi didn't have 8 speed transmissions either, only next gen ones ... without doing research on it i would guess around year 2010 onwards etc.

Ich kann bis heute nicht sagen,was Vw mit dem Auto falsch gemacht hat. Vielleicht sieht er einfach zu langweilig aus
Nichts falsch gemacht, aber dieser Segment gehört nun mal den S Klasse, A8 und 7,er BMW, auch wenn bessere autos als diese Herstellt, kann man kaum sich an diesen erfolgreich anschließen
Das Logo. Wer 90 Tausend € für ein Auto ausgibt möchte keinen VW fahren.
Es ist ein wirklich schönes Auto, leider hat es mit dem Marketing nicht so geklappt und dieses Projekt wurde zu schnell beendet! Den Nachfolger finde ich leider nicht so schön, deswegen wird mein nächstes Auto ein Porsche Panamera!

Sieht aus wie ein passat und klingt wie ein Traktor - eben ein echter vw
Du siehst auch ähnlich wie dein Bruder oder Schwester, ist nunmal aus der Familie VW und ist ganz normal das sie etwas ähnlich aussehen, 3,er sieht auch bißchen wie 5,er aus, c klasse sieht auch etwas nach e klasse aus, aber sicher ganz andere Autos, Qualität, Fahren, alles ist andere Dimension, nicht alles nur nach ähnlichkeit vergleichen
