I developed shingles in early March 2023. The blood blisters were horrific! It affected the right side of my upper body - chest, side, armpit and back. I ended up in ER twice - the pain was excruciating! The first doctor put me on the antiviral medication for 7 days. The doctor I saw on my second trip to ER said I should have been on the antiviral medication for 10 days, so I started a new round of antiviral medication. The postherpetic neuralgia has been extremely rough; I have not been able to get over the pain and still suffering almost a year later. I saw this video so I searched in my area and found a doctor that does this same treatment. They first wanted to see if I would respond to oral medication. It did not help. They said I was a good candidate for laser light therapy, so I paid for 6 treatments in advance - was told insurance doesn’t cover it. I went to each appointment praying it would help. After my sixth treatment there was no change in my level of pain. I still have the pain, almost 1 year later and am discouraged, wondering if it will ever end. I have not been able to wear a regular bra for this past year. I watched another video tonight and the doctor said to use massage and acupressure but to massage on the opposite side of the pain. Since the shingles was on my right side, the massage would be on my left side, along the same nerve mirroring the pain position. He said the pressure points would most likely be more painful than the affected side, and to be gentle and slowly add more pressure. Going to try this.

I so wish I could get this treatment. I have Shingles right now and it's just started 3 days ago. It's now over my whole right forehead, up into the right side of my scalp, right eyelid, temple, around my ear, and in my ear. The pain is absolutely horrendous. I'm 60 years old and I'm absolutely kicking myself for not getting the vaccine. I really didn't know if I had had chicken pox when I was little, so I just kind of kept "putting off" getting the vaccine. Stupid, stupid, stupid! So now I'm suffering through this with just the anti-viral Valacyclovir and the dr gave me 10 Norco for pain.... I don't think the 10 will be enough - but I'm also terrified of getting addicted to opiods now too. In between the Norco every 6 hours, I'm taking acetametaphin every 4 hours, applying cold packs ... and still the pain is almost unbearable. Then there's the fatigue... just walking to my kitchen from my room (about 12 feet) completely wears me out. I have to sit down to rest before I can even make a sandwich or something. I had NO idea Shingles were this debilitating... I always thought it was just an annoying skin rash. My doctor said there's no way to know how long the pain will persist... could be a week... could be MONTHS. God in Heaven, help me. Long story, short: If you haven't had Shingles (or have parents that haven't).... GET THE VACCINE! Don't put it off.

Two months of constant migrane-like headaches, sores that would come and go on my scalp (so just brushing my hair, or even washing it was painful) - and I had to be very "soft" when I brushed my hair so as not to spread the rash and postules across more of my head. I can't stress enough how important it is to get the vaccine (which I have now done after having a SECOND very minor breakout on my left buttcheek). Hopefully I will never have to deal with this again.... and hope many others will read this, get the vaccine, and they won't have to deal with it either.
