Ya know.... the one thing people don’t talk about enough when it comes to this comic is the deaf representation. The accurate/authentic use of ASL and the entire storyline dealing with Clint’s deafness is done so fucking well. I am deaf myself with hearing aids, and growing up I’ve never seen another superhero who was like me. I’ve always wanted a strong/mainstream deaf superhero, and we finally got one with this comic. That one comic panel where he revealed his hearing aids legit made me cry cause it was one of the first times I’ve been able to strongly relate to a superhero. I really hope the MCU explores this in the Hawkeye TV show they’re making bc it’s just so important to me and the deaf community to have this representation out there.

@@jaysmith3173 Comics should be for leisure and one's own enjoyment and fulfillment, so don't feel bad if something doesn't work for you. There is no universal "right" or "wrong" when it comes to things like art and storytelling. Also, you can always re-read a book, and maybe you'll like it this time. I know that's happened to me with things. But if you don't, that's fine too.
At the end of the day, don't sweat it. This isn't a school assignment, and reading should be for fun. People who make it a chore or try to tell you to read/like certain things are obnoxious and not worth listening to.

I remember about 3 issues into this series thinking, "OMG, I'm reading a modern classic". This book felt like a true artistic vision, not just a hired job. I also feel like as great as this book is, it's responsible for a lot of the downfall of marvel. I feel like people misunderstood the minimalist art for amateurish, and the kitschiness as silliness. This was a book that took itself seriously in a world with goofy characters. A lot of books have tried to mimic the 'cuteness' of this book without understanding the real drama underneath all of it. IMO, this was the last truyly amazing year for marvel. With this, Godbomb and a handful of other titles, I feel like this was the end of auteur-driven books at Marvel.

I know this is an older video, and I'm rather late to the commenting party, but this series is my favorite comic book series of all time. Ever. I don't even remember how I got into it. I just remember sitting in my third-period Statistics class, bored as hell, and on my phone. Then I remember going onto a comic book website, deciding I'd sneak in some reading on my phone. The next thing I remember is being two issues in when the bell rings, and I remember getting rather irritated that I had to stop reading. This series really turned Hawkeye into my favorite Marvel Comics character, and the series is really important to me. I was going through a really bad break-up and severe depressive episodes when I first read this issue, and to see a relatable character also going through depression, but forced to keep carrying on was endearing. I really wish that Matt Fraction and David Aja would come back to do another Hawkeye series. Granted, I love what Matthew Rosenberg is doing with Hawkeye Freefall, and I love Otto Schmit's art, but Fraction and Aja made literal magic.
    Wonderful video mate!

Thankfully Matt fraction made this when he did which ironically paralleled the MCU having Hawkeye in Avengers in the same year which led to now allowing us to get the Hawkeye show. Even though it’s only based on this comic I know it’ll be difficult to mess such an iconic comic story up in the show unless Marvel gets too greedy and focus only on setting up future MCU events. It’s gonna be interesting to see how they make Clint similar to this comic as our MCU Hawkeye is less a screw up but rather someone suffering from heavy emotional trauma from the snap and losing Natasha but so far the show is freaking hilarious and for sure the funniest marvel show we’ve gotten by far. My favorite scene was when Hawkeye was tied up talking to the tracksuit mafia and arguing about who “the guy” is with Clint saying “Kate bishop is not guy” lmao

Picked this one up from the library while on vacation thanks to your suggestion.
It was a summer when I also picked up Alias by Bendis and Neil Gaimans "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?"
Hawkeye vol. 1 was the one I read twice.
When I got home I bought all four volumes. Last night I read them all.
In short, this is a damn good and very creative run.
While I personally think it shines its brightest when Aja draws, it is never "bad" (although I didn't care much for vol. 3, L.A. Woman. Not that Kate is a bad character on her own, it just felt so weird compared to the more grounded apartment-building story or the espionage bit of "The tape", so that put me off. Also, what's with the overuse of silhouettes in annual #1? It doesn't look stylish, it looks lazy!). It's always good, but when Aja draws it goes from good to great! Those are my favourite parts and the ones I will come back and re-read this book for.
    Thank you for recommending this.

Haven't read it yet. The art reminds me of Daredevil's Born Again.

Hi Matt, loved the video. Have you read Jeff Lemire's run on Green Arrow? It was running around the same time as Fraction's run on Hawkeye. Although very different, I loved Lemire's run on Green Arrow. If you find it interesting as well, please do a video on that I would love to hear your take on it

    • @johnthai6188

also very interestingly, jeff lemire's run on hawkeye was after his green arrow run and matt fraction's run. jeff lemire's run on hawkeye is a great ending to the kate and clint partnership, that started with fraction's run.

Whats your opinion of Jeff Lemire's hawkeye? I read both runs together because Lemire's was labeled 5 and 6. I liked it but not as much as Fraction's.

Danny Hoffman I feel the same. It's a solid continuation, but it's lacking the spark that this run had.

      @johnthai6188 9 месяцев назад

i like the lemire run as the ending to the kate and clint partnership. also his run on hawkeye is like the unspoken trilogy of modern hawkeye: starts with fraction's run, then lemire's run, and ending it with kelly thompson's run.

Looks great. I stopped reading comics at a point where Hawkeye was married to Mockingbird and leading the West Coast Avengers, so this is pretty much unrecognizable to me. Nevertheless it does look really good and I'd love to check it out. Time to start collecting again?

Cool video!! Hawkeye should have his own team. The Arrow tv show developed a team around Green Arrow. The MCU can do the same for Clint Barton.

My favourite comic book character is Hulk but Hawkeye is definitely a great Marvel character and extremely underrated in the Marvel selection, he seem like a really tragic character that hide his pain with humour and sarcasm, he ain't a hero he seem more anti-heroic lacking superpowers relying on resourceful weapons, great at maneuvering, climbing and parkour, he's equivalent to Nathan Drake in PlayStation's line-up, really disappointing that Clint never got his own solo movie to showcase his own origins

I just wish the MCU would focus on how badass his archery skills and/or his super human marksman skills. They hint at it just like his fighting skills as the Ronin. He is suppose be on par or better the Bullseye with the point and click.

Valerio Definitely! I'm considering how to approach it, but I think the first video to touch on it will be about The Black Mirror.
