I had no cursor still in BIOS, but I didn’t have anything relating to the trackpad anywhere, so I just took a stab in the dark and on advanced tab everything was enabled except this one thing, sorry I can’t even remember what it was named, but definitely nothing that would hint it involved the mouse…. So I enabled whatever it was. Saved, restarted, got the “Looks like windows had trouble loading” screen, restarted again and BOOM. My cursor appeared. I was both surprised and delighted lol. Thank you!! This was the most comprehensive tutorial I’ve seen on this problem. EDIT: Noooo!!! Once windows finished loading it disappeared again!! I am no longer delighted 😩
Using a Dell Latitude 5520 - tried all of your suggestions and finally got to the part about opening Bios. As soon as it opened, the touchpad started working again. I didn't have to make any further changes. I just exited, it rebooted and the touchpad was working when Windows booted back up. Thanks a million.
My Dell Inspiron 15 5000 is stuck on a photo and the cursor is not moving. I am offline so I can't connect to the internet because the cursor is not moving. On this laptop the power key is not marked so I don't know where the power key is....... I'm using another laptop to watch your video. I tried pressing the FN and F-5, F-6, all the way to F-9 button and the cursor is still not moving. To top it off, i cant turn off the laptop. Please help
Just fixed mine. Switch was dirty. Prop up the tab from behind and spray contact cleaner. Wait 5 minutes and boot up. Be careful not to break the tab. It took me 2x to clean it.
What fixed it for me was to uninstall Dell Touchpad in Device Manager then get hardware ID for the touchpad and add it to Policy Editor under device installation restrictions then after restarting it shows as PS/2 compatible mouse.
I have a Dell Vostro 3550 which had Windows 7 Pro and the screen would turn off when going into Windows then after upgrading to Windows 10 Pro and updating the BIOS the screen was fixed then I noticed the touchpad was not working but it's keys were working so after uninstalling the touchpad it would work for a little bit then a restart notification would pop-up. Then after restarting the touchpad would again stop working even after blocking driver updates in both Windows Updates and policy editor. The touchpad only works after uninstalling then restarting and only for a short time.
My trackpad stopped working after windows 10 update , but it moves in the boot menu I tried installing and reinstalling the mouse drivers nothing seems to work
if you are in the market for a new laptop I would recommend an ASUS due to how they are manufactured now compared to HP, Dell, Gateway, etc today. I would go with the Asus i5 20gb Ram 512 SSD drive on Amazon.
