This comes in handy for doing multiple mixes as well. I have a client that wants the full version, then a version without the lead vocal, the an instrumental. I can do all 3 versions at once when exporting thanks to Direct Routing. You can also do this in Pro Tools.
That's really very kind that you do a following video! I love direct outs! I use it for very fast switching/automating different room situations (for "radio drama", game sound, and sounddesign e.g.) BTW: Cubase is the only daw that offers this wonderful feature....
Ooof! My mind is melting! Nuendo & Cubase can be SO powerful! I only wish that there were a more conclusive "control surface" suite because it can be easy to forget them.
just a heads up. the panning thing is the same for sends and direct routing. cubase by default does not have "link panner to sends" activated. I personally always link my panning to the sends for position placement in FX. although I will manually change the pan direction in the sends section if i want to pan in the send to a different direction of the fx send. i am not sure if i explained this well....but I hope you understand.
Thanks for the info, but when I tried a send to my group channel, the panning of the channel that I was sending from was not taken into account. Like it WAS taken into account when I used direct routing. My point was that therefore this is different (by default). But you are now saying that you CAN configure sends to take the panning into account as well right, with "link panner to sends"? That is very useful!
I would think you can still control the amount you send (to a degree) in post fader direct routing with a post fader insert plugin.... There are a few things you can do with those actually. Thanks for the video. Hasn't explored direct routing yet. 😎
Yes! I've been using direct routing for stems for a while now. And it works awesome. It's such a time-saver for creating 😂ALT mixes. But I always thought that direct routing in Cubase was mainly so that you can use outboard summing gear. Does anybody do this?
thanx for your awesome videos!! so you could use this to (for example) route a guitar to both a reverb fx track and a delay fx track, without using sends, right? i'm a cubaser, but i know that in pro tools, you can do this from the original routing option, without the need of "direct routing". maybe it's the exact same problem, only solved in 2 different ways?
Yes you could use it instead of sends like that. But myself, I'd use if for real parallel busses and then use the sends for the regular fx like you mentioned.
I tried this with parallel compression and seemed to have phase issues when I turned up the compressor that I wasn't getting using an aux. Maybe it's just how I have my template set up?
Amazing video! It’s an highly unexplored feature!
Thanks. Love your channel 😁.
Glad you saw the light! Direct Routing is amazing!
👍
I'm a long-time Cubase user. And ... I finally get it!!! Direct Routing is really useful! Thanks a million for this video.
Yes 👍

Yes another good use-case!
EXCELLENT INFORMATION, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
You are very welcome!
You are a gentleman and scholar. Regards
Thank you!

Ha ha …. yes there are many features to remember 😉
So useful. I was just trying to create my first orchestral template and was struggling with creating stems. Thanks so much!
Great that it was useful!
This channel is growing!
Hope so 😉
Merci beaucoup !
You're welcome!
🔥 nice
Thanks 🙏
Nice, indeed
Thanks a lot!!!

Yeah I later learned that you can also set direct routing to post fader.

I've heard it being used for that as well but do not use analog summing myself. Maybe someone else can share his experiences.

Hmm, I haven't noticed that myself. As far as I know it should all be plugin delay compensated.
Actually you can connect the send panning with the fader panning. You do not need direct routing for that.
Yes thanks. Somebody else also mentioned that, you can also get the sends to behave post panner for the channel you are sending from 👍.
my brain hurts
😂
