  • @nonshatter7

    Thanks, yours is the first review I have seen on this.
    Could that data cable connection be an area of security compromise?
    For future videos could you demonstrate the other areas of signing the transaction, namely NFC and SD card transfer (and anything else)? I understand it has two sd card slots.
    If only I had a Bitcoin or two to use this thing that would be grand? Nevertheless, I enjoyed this review and look forward to subsequent ones.

    Thank you Ben. I purchased a MK 4 recently and am still getting used to it, but found this video very informative too. One question: I purchased a magnetic UBC/C cord with my MK 4. You mentioned that the magnetic cord does not transmit data and a conventional cord is required. Does this mean that if I am plugged into my PC with the magnetic cord I cannot send with it?

    • @NiagaraBTC
      @NiagaraBTC 3 месяца назад +2

      I'm not Ben but that is correct: the magnetic cord is intentionnaly for power only. Ideally you never plug your Mk4 into a computer and do everything air gapped either by NFC or with the SD card.

    Well I did purchase a colcard Q and followed this video. It was fine right up to sparrow wallet reommendation. Downloaded that on my mac fine but was then confused with the public server we should use as they had writing saying that it was not ideal for privacy. Yikes. The reason I got the colcard was for maximum privacy and security. So the sparrow wallet was very confusing and it stopped me cold in my tracks for setting up things. Maybe better explanation or other wallet suggestions would help but unfortunately this tutorial failed me.

    • @BTCSessions
      @BTCSessions  9 дней назад

      By default any Bitcoin wallet will use a public server until you run your own. This is something you can do eventually but you should not let it deter you from using Bitcoin in the meantime.
      When you eventually run your own node, I quite like the ones by Start 9.
      Just pick any of the servers Sparrow has listed here. They are hand selected for having publicly stated they don't collect any data.
      Just to be clear, EVERY Bitcoin wallet is using a public server if you aren't running one and manually connecting to it yourself. It's just that no wallets other than Sparrow make you aware of this upon setup.

    REMEMBER, 12 WORDS IS ENOUGH
    Because as Andreas Antonopoulos and Adam Back said, Bitcoin elliptic curve security is only 128 bits anyway (12-words = 128bits while 24 words = 256bits). Using 24 words is like typing a "100 characters long password", when the machine will check only the first 20 characters of the password anyway.

    • @14lou

      This video is just one of the tutorials I'm doing on the device. It is the most simplistic option of how to use the device. I also disagree that it should never be used via usb. A coldcard used via this method may be marginally less secure than the air-gapped options, but it's still better than many other hardware options on the market, and miles ahead of a hot wallet or worse... leaving money on an exchange.

      I have to agree. I would never touch their garbage again. Although this Q is something they should have built from the start instead of making people buy the Mk3 and Mk4 which are both garbage. There is nothing innovative about the Q which is why they should have built it years ago. I remember in the past Rodolfo was hell bent against all the feature like QR codes but now realises they won't sell sh1t if they don't at least try and modernise.
      I guarantee they will go bust or disappear if they don't adopt Altcoins. The game has moved on. No one in this space wants to use 20 different brands of wallets to do their thing.
      Keystone Pro 3 is the best hardware wallet on the market right now. I'm just looking forward to when they can add NFC technology to it as well. The game has moved on there are better hardware wallets out there. Coldcards are no more secure or safer than any other hardware wallets despite the BS Rodolfo spews out.
