And sometimes the vintage fairy blesses you and you find a legit black corde clutch in perfect condition at Goodwill for $4 right before you find a bakelite necklace for $5 at the same Goodwill during the same trip. That was a good day.
Fantastic video! Yes, I change screw back and clip earrings to post earrings all the time. You’re totally right about being comfortable wearing your earrings! Enjoy your vintage pieces I say!
I just love your videos Bianca, your so informed, have impeccable style, and are so funny! Omg, that red "splurge" bag is stunning, and totally went with the outfit you're wearing! Love sword pin too! 👌✨✨✨
I changed the shape of the collar on an old 1950's shirt and have regretted it because it was so unique. I was young and experimental and learned my lesson. You sound very sensible in your approach as to what is acceptable. I agree with you. I would love to see how you wear the W Bros straw hat. How would you style your hair and at what angle you might place it. I think the black reptile bag would go with any era - even todays uber modern tailored clothing - could be a good match. Never apologise for following your passion if it brings you joy. More bags is OK. OK?
Thank you! I have already worn the navy hat a few weekends ago to our local botanical gardens which you can see how I styled it here theclosethistorian.blogspot.com/2018/05/plenty-of-pleats-please.html I'm glad to hear more bags is okay, I certainly have my eye on some others...
That scimitar brooch is fantastic! I usually see them in bakelite/lucite/wood and they can be so colorful, so to see a simple metallic tone is a treat.
Sweet find in the suitcase! I'm so glad you showed us how to convert the earrings. I have really wanted to purchase several vintage earrings but passed them over due to being clip ons which I find very painful. Thanks!
I think it depends on the item and the alterations done/for what purpose they're done. Example: my senior prom dress was a 1960's cocktail dress that I had hemmed to better suit my body/prom setting. BUT, we hemmed it in such a way that I can easily revert it back to the longer length (which is ideal now that I dress vintage and somehow still fit into it). So, I think impermanent alterations are more acceptable. It does hurt my soul when I see people hack up vintage pieces beyond repair to make them modern instead of just leaving them for someone who dresses in that era, though.
That cherry red Plasticflex clutch is LIFE!! Totally acceptable to indulge in oneself in Plastiflex clutches chica, I'm super jelly!😍😍😍Xxx Looking adorable as per!❤
I envision a boxy white floor to ceiling shelf/cube display pieces where the most visually compelling bags from your collection can double as a modern art display. That would be sooooo lovely
I totally agree with you. Changing vintage clothes to fit modern tastes is a big no no. Screw backs are not fun at all, so I'm on the fence about jewelry.
The color of the pistachio gloves is called "vert amande" in french, which means green almonds and it describes the shell of almonds at their begining, when they are light green. In 1949s american magasines it was called "almond green". That was before the ice cream came into the market with its italian gelato name
Beautiful finds! I find so many of these vintage items at really great prices (usually under 10.00) that I'm hoping to start my own etsy shop someday! I think because many people move and get rid of these items I love finding them! I convert some items ( I've changed buttons) My edits are usually just jewelry too. Anyways this was great to watch thank you for sharing! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I'm with you when it comes to clip on ear rings. Some of them feel like some kind of, ear lobe attaching, device of torture. If they aren't named items it's OK to alter for comfort. When it comes to clothes I definitely a purist. I couldn't imagine cutting up vintage clothes., other then maybe darts for a better fit. Your haul is marvelous!
Great video, Bianca! Love all your purchases especially the red plasticflex clutch. When it comes to altering vintage or not I'd say I lean more towards the not. Having said, that like you, it bothers me more with clothing than something like easy to find earrings.
Converting things is something i do often, since I wear clip-on earring due to having very thick earlops and a bit of metal sensitivity. So I find that screw back earrings works for me. Although I agree some clip-ons hurt. I am often picky about what clip on type of backs i like due to comfort issues. I also have been known to convert a stud pair of earrings into clip-ons
The red bag is truly too beautiful to pass! It had to be done. :P I admit that I might change dresses from time to time to suit another decade.... mostly cheap stuff, though. I like the history and the story of everything I find so I try not to change them, but ultimately I buy them to enjoy them and not to sell them or keep them in a box, so I'd rather have them suit my needs.
I so enjoy watching these..your passion and knowledge are wonderful! the plastiflex clutches are fab, never seen them, but again not much cool thrifting here.. the red one is really a beautiful shade of red and fits with your jacket too! I also have a problem and get into the collecting thing where I need to have every colour and/or love the building a set thing...idea for a video (maybe??) to show us how you convert the earrings? 💜
Thank you Blue Jay! I already have a blog post about how I make earrings from buttons, and I do the converting from clip backs the same way, just using wire clippers to cut the clips off the backs theclosethistorian.blogspot.com/2013/07/earrings-from-buttons.html
Dollar tree has these plastic cutting board sheets that would probably work really well inside your clutches. (You can cut them and round the edges to whatever size you need.)
The cool pyramid shaped closure love that. The ancient Egypt archeological items were discovered 1920s and were still popular for that time, Art Deco spin off; which I adore all ancient Egyptian things since a child.
Thank you! I actually have a hard time keeping headscarves on my head usually, but this tutorial from Norafinds shows how I tie mine too ruclips.net/video/J7vI_ERLAyk/видео.html
I looooove the straw clutch! I hide under a straw hat pretty much from april to end of september (me don't like the sun on my head and face...) I gotta get me one of these!
TheClosetHistorian sadly, I have to limit myself to the german and swiss etsy. well, possibly EU. Because I don't want to pay Switzerlands horrendous import fees for things from overseas. 😅 but I think I'll find something nonetheless
Ah yes that would make things more difficult. I have started setting Etsy to US myself as I keep falling for handbags from UK sellers and can't/won't pay so much for shipping!
TheClosetHistorian Well, I don't want to complain too much since at least I live next to the German border and have access to that market :) but I do get a little envious of all the possibilies you have in the US sometimes :)
I love all your "new" items! It looks like you just found the mother lode of necessary additions! The thing is that they all look almost new! Doesn't bother me one bit when you change the earrings....like you said....clips hurt.
Great haul!! I don't like skirts hemmed too short either, because it's so much prettier and authentic at the original length. But I definitely would convert clip on earrings if I could! No one's ever going to know they didn't come like that. It annoys me when people try to pass limp curling wand curls (like, not even curled under) off as vintage instead of doing a set. So I guess just when people think they look authentic to a specific time period when they clearly don't have any historical knowledge of that time. I do cheat on some things; I wear leggings in the winter and avoid nylons because they don't stay up well on me. I don't like holding my purse, so I clip on a matching nylon strap so I can wear it on my shoulder or crossbody. I'm lazy lol
Yes, my Saturday just got better! The black wicker bag is my fave. As for altering vintage, well...I'm for it, but that's because I'm not really a purist. These are usually unique items so it can hurt to see the irreparable 'damage'. But if the person will be happier with the piece and will hold on to it forever thanks to the alterations, then what's the harm? Nobody else can have it, anyway. That said, altering pieces that you know you're gonna get rid of seems wasteful and kinda 'unfair' to the next owner.
Thanks Olga! I agree that if it's something you intend on keeping and enjoying for a long time it makes sense to customize an item to your needs! Or of course if something needs to be fixed or altered to make it wearable at all that makes sense too :)
Omggg i.love your bags i.have the same one as you on the wicker ones i.love them.i.have a navy blue one white one and I jus found that is red and black it's beautiful. I can't get enough. Im.looking for more colors the more the better lol.
I do hem some vintage dresses/skirts. I am 5'2" so the most flattering skirt length for me is always at the knee or above the knee. Midi dresses/skirts are just not the right style for me. I defend it because if I lived in the 50s I would probably do the same thing. ha.
Understandable! Its hard because once vintage belongs to a new owner, it should of course be fixed to suit them I suppose, but some things are irreversible and there is only so much vintage out there. But if you intend to keep things then of course they must fit you properly!
Thank you! I usually just clip off the screw back or clip on part with jewelry wire cutters and glue on a post back with some e6000 glue. They have post backs at most craft stores in the jewelry area, or available online as well. Best to get surgical steel or other hypoallergenic ones.
I don’t like carrying things that have to stay in my hand or be set down. The moment I put it Down its as good as lost or I’m trying to juggle a thousand things so…I admire your collection though. Thank you for sharing
Thank you Heather! I don't have a video on scarf tying myself, but I recommend Nora Finds video on the subject ruclips.net/video/J7vI_ERLAyk/видео.html
Thank you! It really depends on the style of bag, tiny beaded evening bags are different from say, wooden bead day-wear purses. The best thing to do is to perhaps try and find similar examples to the style on Etsy or Ebay and see what they are priced at to get an idea of the range.
I love the plastiflex clutch bag, went on UK Etsy site they have a black clutch on £220.00 I fell through the the floor open mouthed , lovely but pricey
I had them a 1940 dress due about 3 inches was sun stain and moth holes ate it . I try my best to keep it as long could . So kept below the calf of my leg .
I think it's always fair to save a wounded item! It's only when people take a perfect condition 1940's dream dress and hem it to mid thigh length that my heart cries a little ;)
Thank you Kristy! I like the idea of classic tote bags and those netting sort of bags, and also jelly totes like this www.unique-vintage.com/products/retro-style-black-jelly-plastic-betty-basket
i also have larger hands for finding gloves that fit. have you tried making your own?? its surprisingly do-able.. i took classes on how to at costume college & highly recommend it
I have never tried! It just seems so fiddly to me and I can be an impatient sewer, so I'm not sure it's the project for me really but I'm glad others out there have more courage than I!
I have mixed feelings about modifying vintage? Like your example with the hemming a '50s dress WAY up also makes me cringe, but I also have basically 0 problems with otherwise tailoring the same dress? (IE adding bust or waist darts)
I suppose darts and some tailoring can be done in ways which are reversible later on, but when fabric is cut from the hem there is no going back from that!
I don't know of any other particular brands really, I always just search for "plastic tile purse" and see what happens. I'll get even more vague and just search "plastic purse" or "plastic handbag" because some sellers don't really know what they have and then you get the real deals ;)
I don't wear true vintage because I have such a hard to fit figure. Would I be done with the alteration of the clothes, it would be difficult to go "unalter" them, so I just sew new ones and leave the true vintage to people who don't have to maul the dresses. I am in favor of alterations so the things can be worn and adored again, but with the really old and special things I think it is wise to be careful with the alterations. All in all, for me the resulting look is the important part, not the kind of earring clasp :)
I recently found your channel and subscribed. Binge watching your vids and have very much enjoyed all! Thank you! I do have to take exception with you altering clip or screw-back earrings! I purposely never pierced my ears and have been buying vintage for years. Do you know how hard it can be to find these? I cringed when you said you alter them!! I actually have to alter modern earrings to clip or screw-back. Aaaaccckkk!
Thank you Amy! I'm sure you are not alone in your ire, alas some people alter things to be clip ons, others alter them from clip ons, indeed we all have different ears. Funny you say you find them hard to find though, there are thousands of pairs of screw backs and clip ons available on Etsy for example. Do you not shop online?
@@TheClosetHistorian Yes, but not for jewelry. I want to inspect them at thrift or vintage local. I have been disappointed w Etsy or Ebay a few times. And these vintage ones are finite. Once gone, they are are gone.
It annoys me when people convert clip earrings because I dont have pierced ears! Lol! I refuse to pierce them after the horror stories of kids pulling on earlobes etc. I feel I should buy all the clip earrings when I see them. (But yeh, screw backs are the worst!)
Fair enough! There are luckily a gazillion clip on earrings still out there, it seems they were really a lot more popular than pierced earrings for a long long time. My solution to children pulling on anything is just to avoid children as best I can, but I understand this method does not work for everyone ;)
Dear Mam These days there is so much news on Climate Change and the role of garment industry as a major greenhouse emission source. As you know a lot about fabrics , I would be highly obliged if next to each of these fabrics, you can just write if they are biodegradable and any other information on it being nature friendly fabric 1) Velvet 2). Tulle 3) Crinoline 4) Flannel 5) Gabardine 6) chiffon 7) Satin 8) Georgette 9) Jacquard 10) Suede 11) Neoprene 12) Organza Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android
I think it's ok to tailor a garment to fit your body better, but it my heat bleeds every time I see someone crop a true vintage pice really short or cut off the shoulder pad to make it more "modern".
"I never said i was financially wise" my new senior quote
I couldn't lie...I love shopping far too much to ever truly become financially wise ;)
And sometimes the vintage fairy blesses you and you find a legit black corde clutch in perfect condition at Goodwill for $4 right before you find a bakelite necklace for $5 at the same Goodwill during the same trip. That was a good day.
That is a good day indeed!
I have seen so many beautiful clip backs and never bought them! I NEVER thought of converting them to post backs. Mind blown!!! THANK YOU!!
Life is too short for painful earrings ;)
Fantastic video! Yes, I change screw back and clip earrings to post earrings all the time. You’re totally right about being comfortable wearing your earrings! Enjoy your vintage pieces I say!
Thank you Tamra!
I just love your videos Bianca, your so informed, have impeccable style, and are so funny! Omg, that red "splurge" bag is stunning, and totally went with the outfit you're wearing! Love sword pin too! 👌✨✨✨

Okay I love those plastic tile purses.
I love your style, your purchases, & the way you present them to us. You're one of the best vintage vloggers ever!
Thank you Maureen!
That scimitar brooch is fantastic! I usually see them in bakelite/lucite/wood and they can be so colorful, so to see a simple metallic tone is a treat.
Thanks! I have a clear Lucite one in my collection as well, I'd love to find a colored Bakelite version one day :)
Like the white and black faux wicker bags! I have the same black bag but love the white!!! Also love the classic alligator bag. Amazing collection
Sweet find in the suitcase! I'm so glad you showed us how to convert the earrings. I have really wanted to purchase several vintage earrings but passed them over due to being clip ons which I find very painful. Thanks!

Awesome haul, the red bag is everything! Handbags and globes and jewelry Oh My! 🤗
Thank you Noel!
Such a good idea collecting accessories in sets! Why have I never thought of that before??!
I envision a boxy white floor to ceiling shelf/cube display pieces where the most visually compelling bags from your collection can double as a modern art display. That would be sooooo lovely
One day when I have a very large closet perhaps ;)
I totally agree with you. Changing vintage clothes to fit modern tastes is a big no no. Screw backs are not fun at all, so I'm on the fence about jewelry.
Thanks Tahirah! Jewelry is difficult in this instance I feel!
It really is. Comfort is the key in this case though. FYI...My obsession is tapestry/carpet bags. I just can't get enough of them.
I think it’s okay to change the backs on earrings, especially if they’re missing backs. But really it’s better to wear them
The color of the pistachio gloves is called "vert amande" in french, which means green almonds and it describes the shell of almonds at their begining, when they are light green. In 1949s american magasines it was called "almond green". That was before the ice cream came into the market with its italian gelato name
Good to know, and so fancy sounding ;)
I love the plastics clutches! I have never seen them before. Cool!
They are super fun indeed! :)
i think your sensibilities on the jewelry is spot on!! clip ons HURT. go for the comfort when its not an artist specific piece. go for it :)
Beautiful finds! I find so many of these vintage items at really great prices (usually under 10.00) that I'm hoping to start my own etsy shop someday! I love your reasoning behind your purchases!

Well, that dark red plastiflex is indeed very pretty! 😍
Great haul❤️ I'm a purse fanatic as well, so I get it. Love your make-up and the head scarf was very pretty. I'm biased to anything emerald green. 👛👜👒
Thank you!
I buy and sell vintage accessories and jewelry. With the jewelry I remake it into a different design. Love you channel.
Thank you!
Great video. You found a lot of great vintage items. Loved the gloves.
Thank you!
I love both the white and black purse I’ve been wanting ones like that 😩
Thank you! Etsy is the best place to find them I think :)
Converting things is something i do often, since I wear clip-on earring due to having very thick earlops and a bit of metal sensitivity. So I find that screw back earrings works for me. The red bag is truly too beautiful to pass! It had to be done. :P
I admit that I might change dresses from time to time to suit another decade.... mostly cheap stuff, though.
I like the history and the story of everything I find so I try not to change them, but ultimately I buy them to enjoy them and not to sell them or keep them in a box, so I'd rather have them suit my needs.
Thank you Stella! It makes sense when you are planning on keeping things long term to fix them to suit your needs :)
Just came across your channel and I’m so excited! Makes me want to shop a whole bunch as I am also no financially wise 😉
Thank you Leanne! I have way too much fun shopping, I really need to go on a full out shopping ban for a while ;)
I so enjoy watching these..your passion and knowledge are wonderful! the plastiflex clutches are fab, never seen them, but again not much cool thrifting here.. the red one is really a beautiful shade of red and fits with your jacket too! Love your vintage videos Bianca. Im so glad I found your channel. You remind me of Natalie Wood ❤️
Thank you!
Love the black and white wicker bags!!! TFS
Thanks! I love wicker bags
I actually like findng that hack about switching clipons to posts the best!
I am so jealous of all your plastic flex clutches! Everytime I find one it is soooooo damn expensive!
They are certainly collectible these days! I have been able to find a few for around $30 before, so it is possible-- but rare!
I really love the lizard bag. I don’t like crocodile or snake, but lizard...
Dollar tree has these plastic cutting board sheets that would probably work really well inside your clutches. (You can cut them and round the edges to whatever size you need.)
These sound like they would be perfect indeed!
love the red plasticflex bag
Thank you Kimberly!
Wow love your makeup. I need eyebrows like yours girl!!!! Great video Thanks for sharing !!
Thank you!
The cool pyramid shaped closure love that. The ancient Egypt archeological items were discovered 1920s and were still popular for that time, Art Deco spin off; which I adore all ancient Egyptian things since a child.
I love ancient Egyptian things too :)
A. Your new brow look is amazing. and B. Quick tutorial on how to do your head scarf?

They just had no idea how good things would get when folks started piercing their ears....haha
That last handbag is very much what Queen Elizabeth still uses
Love your videos. I'm a new subscriber and I'm so glad I found your channel!
Thank you!
Hi! New subscriber! Yes, clip onss are horrid to wear (or at least most of them) Bring on the posts!
Great haul!! I don't like skirts hemmed too short either, because it's so much prettier and authentic at the original length. But I definitely would convert clip on earrings if I could! Y deliver an interesting and informative haul. Very lovely style tasteful presentation
Oh yes have y ever tried making gloves I've purchased several patterns but haven't dived in
Thank you Joylnn! I have never tried to make gloves, I feel like it would be so fiddly to do all those turns and details!
Great haul, everything is gorgeous!
Thank you Nicolle!
ur brows are so much better then they used to be
I quite agree
I do hem some vintage dresses/skirts. I am 5'2" so the most flattering skirt length for me is always at the knee or above the knee. Midi dresses/skirts are just not the right style for me. I defend it because if I lived in the 50s I would probably do the same thing. ha.
Understandable! Its hard because once vintage belongs to a new owner, it should of course be fixed to suit them I suppose, but some things are irreversible and there is only so much vintage out there. But if you intend to keep things then of course they must fit you properly!

You don’t have to justify yourself to us regarding buying the clutch we are there with you 😊👍🏻
Ha thank you! ;)
Since I don't claim to be pure vintage, I don't mind editing. Especially since, in some cases, I have to (chronic pain etc.)
thankyou again, love your topics, do you have a video on scarf styling for hair?
Thank you Heather! I don't have a video on scarf tying myself, but I recommend Nora Finds video on the subject ruclips.net/video/J7vI_ERLAyk/видео.html

I have found a few for $25 dollars before! Keep on the hunt, deals do happen out there :)
I’m late to this party but my personal feeling is I do not mind seeing vintage furniture being painted, etc... but vintage clothing and accessories
I had them a 1940 dress due about 3 inches was sun stain and moth holes ate it . I try my best to keep it as long could . So kept below the calf of my leg .
I think it's always fair to save a wounded item! It's only when people take a perfect condition 1940's dream dress and hem it to mid thigh length that my heart cries a little ;)
TheClosetHistorian I agree with you .
If you want a certain color glove you could try dyeing white ones
I have done it before and I am certainly tempted to do so again ;)
Or make them, then they’d fit perfectly
Just found your channel. Great fun, subbed.
Thank you!

Besides plasticflex, what are other vintage brands I should look out for? I tried to Google it but that wasn't helpful. I did run into your blog tho!!
I don't know of any other particular brands really, I always just search for "plastic tile purse" and see what happens. I'll get even more vague and just search "plastic purse" or "plastic handbag" because some sellers don't really know what they have and then you get the real deals ;)
Also how do you organize all your accessories? By color or by item (ie. purses, necklaces, gloves...)?
I organize by item and then by color, you can see how I keep everything in my closet tour video here ruclips.net/video/Emq_2UmxVbM/видео.html
I can't wear clip-on or screw back earrings. I wind up with a huge headache if I do. So, only pierced ones for me.
Very understandable! I find clip ons super painful!
I love the way you speak
Thank you!
Where do you buy your scarves from?
Thrift shops mostly, or if I am looking for a specific color or pattern I will get them online from Etsy :)
It depends on what it is, situation, condition etc. I think jewelry bothers me less than clothes as well.
Could you please tell us what kind of glue you use to adhere the post backs on clip earrings? E6000?
I do indeed use E6000.
Why did you have to introduce me to plastiflex CLUTCHES?! 🤦🏻♀️ ✨✨✨🙌🏼🙌🏼💖💖💖💖💖 They’re gorgeous ✨
I spread the gospel of plasticflex ;)
I don't wear true vintage because I have such a hard to fit figure. Would I be done with the alteration of the clothes, it would be difficult to go "unalter" them, so I just sew new ones and leave the true vintage to people who don't have to maul the dresses.
I am in favor of alterations so the things can be worn and adored again, but with the really old and special things I think it is wise to be careful with the alterations.
All in all, for me the resulting look is the important part, not the kind of earring clasp :)
I prefer to sew reproductions for a similar reason, then I can choose the fit and details to suit instead of having to alter precious vintage items!
How do you find out your glove size? Need to start collecting
I included everything I know about gloves including sizing in this video here : ruclips.net/video/s3LB1HuvjKg/видео.html :)
nice!
I'm lowkey binge watching because your style is fun ! I can't wear any womens gloves. I have large man sized hands :(
Thank you! I wear a larger glove size myself so it may be worth searching out size 8 or 9 gloves as I do come across them sometimes online :)
Dear Mam
These days there is so much news on Climate Change and the role of garment industry as a major greenhouse emission source.
As you know a lot about fabrics , I would be highly obliged if next to each of these fabrics, you can just write if they are biodegradable and any other information on it being nature friendly fabric

I think it's ok to tailor a garment to fit your body better, but it my heat bleeds every time I see someone crop a true vintage pice really short or cut off the shoulder pad to make it more "modern".
