The Mighty Imperial Remnant Fleet On Patrol - A Star Wars: Remnant Mini-Short

- The Imperial Remnant fleet shows its might in the isolated Maren Sector...
What started as a series of rendering tests for the new Imperial Star Destroyer model by Ole Magnus turned into a full-blown animation test, inspired by some shots from Rogue One. With some music by Bastien Boiton, it turned into a true mini-short.
Everything was animated in Blender, rendered with Cycles X, color graded in After Effects, and assembled in Premiere.

Nothing has quite matched the imposing and monolithic majesty of an Imperial Star Destroyer. Nicely done!
"Monolithic magesty" Nice, I like that.
The halcyon of cruisers, that still has plenty of punch left in it.
The majesty of an Imperial Dorito.
Now if only they could mount some damned point defense on these beauties so they stop getting utterly rolled by smaller, weaker ships and starfighters.
I like the Harkonnen frigates in Dune better, had an even more monolithic vibe. Well, all the ships from Dune are basically massive monoliths. I also like the ships from Halo, but it doesn't go as much on looking like a massive monolith.
The magestic star destroyer in its natural habitat.
Good one!!!
Literally anywhere you don't want to be right now
@@Cardinal8427 if you are an enemy of the Galactic Empire
That first shot is very reminiscent of that shot from Rogue One. And like in that shot, the Star Destroyer is white-ish, it really looks like an actual model
Agreed - it looks like a physical model for practical effects, which is absolutely a compliment. This is some gorgeous work. I would really like to know what modeling software is used. Does anyone know?
@@jimheimerl1637 Hey thanks! both the tie fighter and the destroyer is modelled in SketchUp
@@olemagnussunnevag3553 Cool beans. I neglected to use my free one-month trial of Sketchup (because of reasons), so I'm looking at purchasing it if it is anywhere near as easy to use as SolidWorks. Based on a bit of a video I saw, it looks like it just might be.
@@jimheimerl1637 yes haha very underestimated program, super easy and effective, just load it up with a million plugins if you want to do something crazy haha
That's what blew my mind about Rogue One. Sure they were CGI but they looked perfect. I couldn't believe it. Plus that movie did a better job with acale, actually showing the sheer size of these things.
I'll never tire of watching ISD's emerge from the shadows
“Let’s show those rebel scums the full might of the Empire” - Imperial Officer
I was honestly expecting the deathstar to pop up. Definitely getting closer to mastering that rogue one look
This is Remnant Empire, so it no longer exists
@@palpatinethesenatehog7086 I know, it was just very reminiscent of that scene from rogue one
@@nottherealleo Imperial Remnant means that both Deathstars were already destroyed
@@palpatinethesenatehog7086 did you not read what they said? they definitely already know that
Rogue*
The return of the king
There has existed no greater ship that can both be a symbol of fear and courage in sci-fi than the iconic Star Destroyer.
Those ISDs are GORGEOUS
Long live the empire!
Who's gonna tell him?
Long live the Empire.
Wasn't the ISD-1 phased out by Endor tho?? O.o
@@latch9781 what?
Long Live Thee Empire!!!✊
Long Live The Imperial Remnant!
Nailed the rogue one look! Amazing models!
Not as nailed as the empire strikes back
The hue of the tie fighter is spot on .
When we needed him most he returned
Always nice to see the ISD-I model get some love
Looks fantastic. Only point for improvement would be the engine plumes, although I could just be spoiled by The Expanse
Star Wars ships don’t really have engine plumes, at least not in the OT. This video portrays that quite accurately. That being said, I do think Expanse style drive plumes would look really good on a Star Destroyer.
@@ronin3381 Looking at some shot they indeed didn't have any plumes in the OT (not sure which version it is tho, as Lucas did so many edits over the decades), but they do have a very strong bloom effect around them which fills up the whole ''bell'' and a lens flare which seems to be missing in this video a bit. In this version there is only one part emissive (the center nozzle bit) and just a point light that fills the bell
Star Destroyers reporting in, awaiting instructions.
These look amazing. Toss in a few support ships like frigates or light picket ships and it'd be perfect.
That’s like straight out of Rogue one holy crap
You nailed it!
This is definitely one of if not the best render of Imperial Class Star Destroyers I have ever seen.
It rivals Rogue One, which I can clearly see you tried to recreate or at least took inspiration from.
☆Definitely Darth Vader approves☆
Not as imposing as the empire strikes back imperial fleet theme
God, i love these Ships. Just beautiful.
I would love to see more Imperial perspective fan films and having some from that take view of a ISD crewman or Stormtrooper assigned to a detachment stationed on one would be cool as well
This is just a great unused idea, I would love for a show to follow the crew of the ISD especially right before and after battle of endor, crumbling infrastructure, relocation, difficulty in keeping such a massive ship running, I mean the story writes itself.
I would make a longer series beginning with the start of the Clone wars following volunteers and conscripts of the Republic and really Show how the Future imperial soldiers and officers are shaped
Wow! The music to all that was amazing.
Oh yeah! That's amazing! I was expecting the Super Star Destroyer to pop up, but then I remembered this is eight years after Jakku!
That is real fraking incredible AF, my guy!!!!!
Those ISDs just look *chef's kiss*
Those models are sweet! They look exactly like they did in Rogue One
Me and the boys flexing our death triangles on the local inhabited planet
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Outstanding work my friends!!!
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
I never get tired of this lighting, nice work!
My question is what was casting the shadow on the first Star Destroyer we saw?
Whenever a Star Destroyer gets cast into shadow in the movies it's by something much bigger -- either Vader's Super Star Destroyer in ESB or the Death Star in Rogue One.
Perhaps the other Star Destroyer? Either that or some celestial body that was just out of shot.
They are *GORGEOUS*
Superb. Really captures the feeling of the Empire in its prime keeping order in the galaxy.
"Oh its, beautiful"
That looks movie quality!
Nicely done. Always a treat to watch your videos. 👍
I sat down and watched the whole channel at one go. Can't wait for more y'all!
I always get impressed by how film-quality like this is!
This is Grand Admiral Thrawn to all rebellion vessels. I will accept your surrender in eight minutes.
This is absolutely incredible, almost film quality!
These models look just as good as the ones from Rogue One. Well done!
Awesome. Love the lighting.
The Mark I Imperial class Star Destroyer. Symbol of fear and oppression..... Or order and discipline, depending on what side of the fence you stand on.
These models look better than whatever those ridiculous star destroyers were in ep9
Holy moly! That looks like an actual model you could reach out and touch!
Hero’s of the Empire all. Defenders of peace til the bitter end. Coruscant may be silent, his majesty may be dead but the fight is not over, as long as there is a trooper standing, and a destroyer overhead, the war is not over. The imperial banner will be raised again. The usurpers will be punished, their worlds shall burn for their insolence. Long live the Empire!
Absolutely Spectacular.
This looked like it came straight our of a Star Wars movie. Amazing work with that one 🤩
Happy new year Mr Forge, I hope this year grants you many and big opportunities and much more than that. Until next time, fare well
So glad the Type I Impstar is getting so much love lately.
Truly amazing!
Beautiful!
BEAST, friend. BEAST.
Amazing!
My word the level of details on those ships was amazing! Easy up to what the star wars film makers do.
Thought I was watching Rogue One for a sec there, nice job!
I love the look of those models! Like a cleaned and pressed parade ready uniform!
I’m glad you’re still making videos mate.
Why Imperial 1 and not Imperial 2 star destroyers? Clearly the Empire was never the same after my demise...
Because they are awesome, that's why
Those ties are massive
Looks like the Real Darkfleet!
Those ISD models look like practical models holy shit
Great CG work !!! Amazing!!!
Love these vids. So. Much.
Looks great
Killer scoring. Adds huge.y to the intended effects. Nice work!
Thank you!
- The composer
it would be really cool if you modeled some of the fights inspired by the X-Wing book series. I love to see fighter ship battless
I love the colors you chose! Masterful VFX!
Very nice shoot, i love star destroyer😎, hehhe
Nothing will ever top the venerable Star Destroyer in the halls of Sci Fi vessels.
that is so awesome.
Great Job! 👍
Awesome!
Absolutely love the aesthetic matching that original trilogy plastic model look 😍
Others have said it but I'll say it too for the algorithm; That first shot looks as good as Rogue One's Star Destroyers during the Death Star construction scene.
What I'd love to see is the Imperial Fleet during a "Grand Review for the Emperor". It'd be awesome to see a couple Super Star Destroyers, with a bunch of "regular" Imperial Star Destroyers lined up next to and behind them. Maybe also with the Original Death Star being constructed in the background. Too much?!? Maybe, but it would be awesome!
This is awsome
Thank you for this
this was amazing, i'm no vfx artist but the engines felt off in a way, overall everything else is magnificent
Dang you really nailed the Rogue One Intro of ISD
You are starting to reach movie quality with your work! Well done!
Wow! Just, wow!
Nice homage to Rogue One. Well done.
There are quite a few moments watching this where they feel more like practical models than 3d. The lighting work is absolutely breathtaking
Man I wish I could see these on IMAX without the youtube compression.
"The Empire is on the verge of success. Soon, peace and order will be restored throughout the galaxy. Even now, our capable forces, led by Darth Vader, are striking back at the Rebel insurgents."
Tie Fighter opening, 1994.
Expecting those star destroyers jump into hyperspace at end of scene. Great video 😍😍😍👍
i just love the reference to that scene in rogue one
looks great
Looks great I was surprised not to see any escort ships 3 destroyers with 4 frigates 5 quasar carriers 6 gozanti as a task force would be awe inspiring
The very first scene reminds me of Rouge One, basically the same quality. Absolutely amazing work, would also love to see some more imperial ship types, although in the movies, they only show this one too.
Awesome
Oh, oh this is the good stuff boss. Love me some imperial classes
When homemade effects look more real / better than the studio version... nicely done.
a happy little fleet.. keeping themselves to themselves. the Force approves
Awsome!!!
This is ESB film level quality. Good stuff.
that no-atmosphere dry light is soooo underappreciated and amazing
I would like to see a longer video because I always like to watch these progressively get better and a longer one shows progress
I see that Rogue One rendering style and I like it.
EMPIRE FOREVER!
Nice 🖤
