Ewan Hill / Fails 6% of the time? That is awful, you cannot say that it works when 6 in every 100 fatal falls result in failure and the person dying, that doesn’t count as working.
The product works when it does it’s job consistency, that is not consistent. 6% is huge.
I cannot believe you have the cheek to say ‘only 6%’. That is humongous, the product doesn’t work well.

There are no surprises regarding the backgrounds of the entrepreneurs. The Dragons know the business history and criminal backgrounds of everyone beforehand. That's how they determine who they are, what they have, and what questions to ask when cameras are rolling. Sometimes, potential on paper is enough to pique serious Dragon interest, especially if the income is passive with. The Dragon's use strategy, (sometimes collective) and a poker face to get the best deal for themselves, knowing full well they reserve the discretion to back out before contracts are signed.

    CONTESTANT here... Nigel Mills
Wow, 400k views and 800+ comments, thank you for watching my pitch here on RUclips ! Please up-vote this comment to keep it near the top of the comments section.
If anyone wants to know more about the product than the Dragons allowed me to say, then you can see it here at:
    www.TEC-Angel.co.uk
Just a little feedback to the various questions in other comments:
Cameras: Cameras completely invade anyone’s privacy and only offer any protection if you are watching the camera feed 24/7. TEC-Angel is active all day every day.
Money & Tax: No I didn't get all the money, it was shared with my business partner. Several investment companies contacted me with ways to avoid paying tax on my share. I concluded the tax man would hound me forever and so I duly paid the taxes and I wrote out a big cheque to HMRC.
Fall Detectors: These are unreliable and generate many false alarms (or they aren't worn).
Trademark: Deborah seemed particularly critical of the name / trademark issue, completely ignoring the fact that we had already taken steps to work round it. Very easy to criticise a start-up when all you've done is take over an existing family business :-)
Why Dragons Den ?: For the publicity and the hope of a Dragon helping me get a better route to market, for me their money wasn’t an issue.
Filming the Show: A tough day. Setup by 5pm the day before, then at the studio next day from 6am. Finally met the Dragons at 6pm after 12 hours in the green room (and there were still two more contestants behind me). Apparently lunch overran because one of the Dragons sent a lackey across town to get a particular sandwich from a particular shop (never mind all the people waiting backstage). If I had my time again I'd lead with my main motivations for the product as detailed under "Why TEC-Angel?" on the home page of the site link above. On reflection while my pitch was drafted to give me credibility, it was a bit incendiary.
The Studio: It's all pretend, just a set in a TV studio. Even the lift is fake, just a room you walk into and out of while guys open and close the doors `Star Trek bridge style` while another guy with a switch operates the floor level indicators. 20 minutes after being faced with the dragons and a brief post pitch `rabbit in the headlights interview` you’re standing outside the studio building with your table wondering `what just happened ?`. An interesting experience, but I wouldn't do it again !!
Getting on the show: A long time between applying and appearing on-air, about a year for me. Troves and troves of due-diligence beforehand to prove you and the product are who you say you are, all of which has to be backed up with real evidence. You can no longer go on and just `spin a yarn`, they’ve obviously been taken for fools before !
TEC-Angel: It's real, `it does what is says on the tin`, and is available on 48 hour delivery from the website linked to above.
If you want to contact me directly, please e-mail me at enquiries@tec-angel.co.uk (sorry RUclips keeps interpreting that as a website link not an e-mail address, you'll have to copy / paste, or use the actual link at the top of the web page).
Thank you for your generally positive comments.
    Nigel Mills

I've had an idea for an invention for a good number of years but lack the skills required to build a prototype.
It involves smart tech, and would find a global market in homes and business.

I agree with Peter, the product just needs to be more tailored. For example combine it with a camera that allows you to check on a family member if they havent left the bathroom for 2 hours or havent left a bedroom by midday etc. Therefore preserving some of their privacy but also allowing you to check on anything that is unusual. And a panic button etc is useless if they collapse or have stroke.

There is a good concept here but a simple PIR sensor (and the £600 price tag instead of £60) isn't up to the job.
All it can do is detect movement and then presume the outcome. Someone could come to the front door, smash the person over the head upon opening the door, and then walk around the house and be presumed to be the elderly relative whilst stealing all their money and jewellery. Although it isn't intended as a security product it is next to useless on the function.

Peter does make a fair point. If this was basically a more automated LifeAlert, it would probably be a really good product/service. Basically it would make sense that instead of texting to their loved ones with all the proms that it has, why not automatically start a call to a 24/7 call center during any abnormal activity, and the sensors also have microphones/speakers for the elderly people to talk to the call center (obviously if they don't respond to the call, then that's a sign to send an ambulance. Of course, there is also the cases where an elderly person would be unconscious way before this "normality time" has elapsed, in which case the call might come too late.
Maybe he could change how the text system works, where instead the system will text you whenever you send it some password, in order to get a report of their activity around the house (since it's a SIM card, the phone number is available, so this should be possible. Also it's password protected bc the number could get leaked).
There are other issues, but this is somewhat of an improvement to what he has pitched to the dragons.

My grandma died on her livingroom floor after having a bad fall, i wish we had something like this. Jenny was rude. They are incredibly selfish. I don't want 16 messages a day about my mum ect. If your mother, grandmother, or anyone, had a sickness or is at an age of worry You should want those texts.
Tbh you should either ring them your damn self to check, or be living with them. If covid taught me anything its that life and time is precious. So many people are dying alone everyday from thousands of problems. Soo this was disgusting and masked by money.

Jenny brought up a legit point, all he had to do was say; "that's a valid point, I'll have to brainstorm that one and fix it"
no long winded debate, situation defused and the worry would be put out of the other dragons' minds

_"She might as well move in with me, then I can keep an eye on her."_
The sad truth is, Jenny is joking. But honestly, why not? That's a perfectly viable option for elderly folks who have family and no mental health issues. That's what families do in most parts of the world. In the UK and the US the only culturally acceptable options is to put them in nursing homes or pretty much abandon them to live alone with a monitoring system that hopefully isn't manned by somebody for whom the job is just a paycheck, and they don't care.

Are you kidding?? They don't mope, they mop! And they clean, and do dishes, and laundry. They're grateful not to be abandoned by their family! They show their gratitude. They can also cook too. Better to live with grand-ma than a Millennial. Those ones are worthless! They do NOTHING except complain and get offended at EVERYTHING!

He should definitely tweak his product. I still think the core of the idea is viable, but it is currently too intrusive. Taking away the call center as a middle man is definitely a plus.

The dragons are in reality spending their own money so they can be on television. The reason they weren’t keen on this product is that from their own very subjective and narrow viewpoint it wouldn’t suit them personally. They were dismissive of the notion they could be bombarded with text alerts.... the reality is that they are not the target market market. However if you are not a multi millionaire and therefore cannot afford private care homes or private nurses for your elderly relatives, it could bring some additional peace of mind at a more affordable price.

This is one time I agreed with Jenny. It makes no sense. He basically explained how to set the system to not alert you when your mum is in the kitchen with a broken hip.
He basically said you figure out how long she spends in there and set the alert for a longer time and if she is then in there for a longer time it’ll alert you. So mum lays in the tub with a broken hip for two hours because you were tired of getting false alerts at 60, 70, 80, 90 min etc. Who would want that?

  • @Jcoughlan
    @Jcoughlan 4 года назад +16

Actually this is a decent product, but you need to add an AI element to the product that tracks unusual behaviour from the norm. You would need to filter out false alarms, add a heart beat monitor to the package and you have saleable product.
