OverlandTrax recommends using a GPS device (Not your smartphone) along with GPS tracks from professional trail guide services. We also suggest taking detailed paper maps just in case your digital navigation fails. As with any adventure, conditions can change dramatically. I’m 30 lbs overweight and managed to do this with approx. 10 30 second breaks. This was a very emotional and life changing experience for me tbh... especially after learning that hiking this is like walking up the Eiffel Tower twice lol

    Like another commenter said, it's 4 miles from the top if you take Barr trail. My first time on the incline took about 2 hours with A LOT of breaks. I thought I brought enough water, but actually ran out about 2/3 of the way down Barr trail, so pack more than you think you'll need. And pack snacks to munch on on the way up or at the top. You'll need the extra energy. Two of us were suffering from sun poisoning on the way down as we picked a rough day to hike this trail. The weather forecast said it would be in the mid to low 70'sf, but it was actually in the high 80'sf. So be prepared and take the Barr trail back, you don't want to risk slipping and falling down that steep incline on the way back. Also, the trail is much less treacherous now than it looks in this video. They just went under some renovations.

    just did this at the end of may. was a very fun and challenging hike. im from CT. i started my hike from the hotel which was 2 miles away so no need to find parking. i did the hike on a full sun day and got burnt.

    Great video, nice that you mention the false summit, my son and i both found out the hard way but made it to the top in approximately and hour. The run down was totally rejuvenating!

    Wow! All the info you need! It's a heck of a hike, be sure you're at least in pretty good shape. I wouldn't recommend walking it if you have ANY knee issues, for sure!

      ive seen so many people in camo in giant groups go up this thing. it was always so satisfying passing them with my 1 year old in my baby backpack on my back :p i lived on ruxton so i did the incline every single day for a LONG time and got very skilled at going up and down.

    Nice video! It's 4 miles down the Barr Trail from the top and 2.5 from the bailout. On my 3rd attempt, I made it to the top. Hard to do coming from sea level.

    • @Acollectorsessentials
      @Acollectorsessentials 5 лет назад +1

      Wrong; it is approximately 2.5 almost 3 miles though it does feel more like 4 miles. I do the incline a couple times a week during spring and summer.

    Are pogo sticks allowed on the incline?

    • @OverlandTrax
      @OverlandTrax  2 года назад

      I believe so, defer to the most up-to-date guidelines at the bottom of the incline; they don't change often.. Thanks for watching!

  • @writer125

    I wish I could do that now, but I can't. I'm too old, I'm 60. When I was younger, back in my 20's & 30's, I would have been able to do this. I can see me being able to make it up and down. But now, absolutely not. Thanx for posting this.

      @@OverlandTrax I used to be able to walk all over with no problem. Now walking a few blocks is hard. I'm waiting for the time when even walking around my apartment will be hard.
