FILM DESCRIPTION:
Hundreds of hopefuls congregate at a cattle call for Broadway dancers. A sour director, Zach (Michael Douglas), and his brusque assistant (Terrence Mann) whittle down the ranks until they're left with 16 dancers. All tell their life stories -- some tragic, some comic -- and explain their love of dance. Tension mounts when Cassie (Alyson Reed) -- once both a big star and the director's lover but now desperate for a part -- auditions. But Zach must choose only the best for his show.

There’s something about her speaking voice that has me absolutely awestruck. I can’t quite put my finger on it
I think it's a very child like quality that she still has today at age however old she is....she is still absolutely LOVELY...I'm pretty sure she's had work on her face but she still looks like her!!! NOne of us are going to look like we did at 21 at 60!!! Look her up Audrey Landers there's an interview called "Home & Castle TV."
@@t.j.7789 Sounds like you're a Big Fan...
Fallen_Pixel Child - Is it that she sounds like she is slightly imitating Marilyn Monroe?
She reminds me of Harley Quinn
She's soooo good here.
I loved this movie growing up. I sang this song on they playground in kindergarten all the time, until my teacher heard me and told my parents. I had to take a break from mom’s movie collection for a while after that
LOL!
It’s a catchy song! 🤣
Love this!! That's totally what my 6 year old would do if she ever saw this movie 🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂 one day at recess I sang God, that's good from Sweeney Todd. I think I got week detention
🤣😅🤣
Am I the only one who thinks she's perfectly fine? Her acting is great, her singing is fine, not Broadway but fine. The direction and choreography is just lifeless.
I agree. The actress did a great job with what she had
Yea had she danced more, I am sure this would be better accepted. Her style of singing is certainly more sultry and low key, not really suited to Broadway, but she hits that "shake your new maracas and you're FINE" so she isn't incompetent. Just very different.
Try singing to that backing track. It sounds like karaoke.
The choreography is lifeless because she's not a dancer.
Yeah she did pretty good. It’s the editing that’s off. The editing is offensive actually.
i’m so used to the musical that i’ve never watched the movie all the way through, but wow oh my goodness, i hope no one judges the show off of this movie.
I loved the stage show and then I loved the movie too.
I thought everyone was judging the movie off of the show?
Whats this inspired by?
@@primaveramugabi5328 the Broadway show. “A chorus line.” It’s great!
I didn’t even know there was a movie lol
This is one movie-musical I wouldn't mind a remake of. We've got plenty of incredible musical theatre performers on the scene right now. Audrey Landers does a great job of the character but considering the point of the musical... yeah.
REMAKE!
Twi.zzled It wouldn’t be a remake since this is an adaptation itself. That’s like saying the latest Shakespeare adaptation is a “remake”.
Just as long as they don’t get the creative team behind Cats.
Some things need remakes. But I don't trust Hollywood in its current state to do much better.
With the right director, say Rob Marshall (Chicago), it might work. But this was an expensive flop back in the day and it’s not like there’s a lot of touring companies of it now
Ryan Murphy is currently developing a miniseries of A Chorus Line
The audio transition from the monologue to the song is jarring as hell.
So much critical remarks. I think she was awesome. Love her facial expressions. And I actually love the film!
Same!
She’s a good singer but she’s not a dancer. She is never shown from head to toe dancing in the movie. That bothered me.
This is a great number, stop the hating all of you. She sings really well, acts really well, great number all in all
Hate gets you attention. And we're all following Warhol.
Ya she s a bloody triple threat A++++
I honestly think it’s just the over all production. The weird audio quality change between all of the audio and singing in this movie is awful.
I think it's just her blocking in this scene when she walks around. I wish I saw her fan kick here
Honestly she's kinda right. As someone who's body only developed after turning 18 ( but it REALLY developed) the difference in how men (or should I say boys) treat me is insane
It's misogyny after all. A depressing yet very tongue in cheek number.
Same. If I wear a low cut top I get five star treatment. Kind of sad.
@Langdon Alger nerdy/ Nerdy looking men are my Type so I prolly treat then better
Yeah, reality isn't fair, sadly...
I hope you don't aspire to that kind of attention.
One of my friends in drama school did this monologue, and then went into the 'T&A' song.... it was one of the most amazing thing I've ever seen!
He was that good, eh?
d-did we go to the same school? wasn't at school but at a competition..

Fun fact: the girl in the Green Leotard One piece is Nicole Fosse, only daughter of Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon
Nicole Fosse.
And the skinny blonde in grey is Wayne Gretzky’s wife.
I thought she looked familiar.
Nicole fosse is in the grey leo. not green
the guy in the brown shirt is Carrie Fischer

The song you'll never seen done in a High School Production of Chorus Line.
Mine did!! NYC performing arts high school 2012
@@nunniecorn mine did too! With a carbon copy of the actress from the movie :D
We are! Just with "this and that" and a few other edits like that
This really shouldn’t be a high school show.
@@ellisLovesZoey Completely changes the whole meaning of the song though lol I don't get why schools do that, just dont do the song/performance if it's too mature
Audrey Landers still looks amazing. She has aged graciously.
American Dad Mama and Baba song brougt me here! What a reference!
Looks, 10; dance, 3. And for the movie, that was just fine. Loved her performance.
She may not be Broadway ready, but that “FIIIIIINE” at 3:26 was a damn good belt.
Omg... look at her😍 She's brilliant.
I've always loved this scene and the whole movie
she’s just got it she’s just addicting to watch she’s such a star
Wow the comments are a trip… I was 12 when this came out. I’ve always loved this movie… it added to all the other musicals that I dreamt of performing in.
You guys need to stop hating on the movie. For people who don’t know the movie, this is an excellent representation. Of course it’s not very accurate, but the singing, dancing, and acting are exceptional. Obviously, it’s not the musical and never will be, but it’s still a very good movie.
One of my favourite movies of all time, and I don’t care what that says about me.......thank you, RUclips
This is my grandma’s favorite song, she sings it all the time.
Hahahaha! Mine too! Hahahaha!
She's gorgeous and this is a great little speech.
Damn, never knew so many people hated this movie. **shrug** I love it. Guess I'm the weird one.
MacMurrough the Meticulous i love the movie too 😢
I'm a theater kid - I liked this movie!
No, you aren't. I love the movie. I grew up where access to live theatre just wasn't a thing and I adore theatre. As an adult I've become able to see some Broadway shows actually in NYC and some tours and see "real" shows which I love but the point made in an above post about how the movie versions of these productions are the only versions many people will ever be able to afford is SO true. With tickets for Hamilton well over 200, many people will NEVER ever see it until it's a movie and then everyone who had the means to see it on Broadway will hold their noses and sneer at the acting and singing and how the show was changed and all wrong and not as good.
I have seen the stage version of Chorus Line now and I have to say that I can appreciate both the movie and the play.
I can't sing very well and I find it impossible to sing along with the Broadway version but I can sing along with whatever key Audrey is singing in LOL!!!!
It was the first time I was introduced to a chorus line.
Me too!
I saw this show. live on Broadway, the top show in the country at that time. TKTS allowed me to get there with just $20 to see the show.............this was in the 1970s. It's so nice to see it again on the Internet, which didn't exist when this fantastic show was shown.
Audrey Landers (64) and her younger sister Judy (62) and their mother, Ruth (82) are so lovely even today. The daughters posed for Playboy and lots of other adult magazines.
Guess most of the commentors are missing the satirical elements of this song. Men and boys are so visually stimulated ! My favorite song from this musical is What I did for LOVE !!
What the hell key is she singing this in ????
c major
Double D major
Cathy - hahahaha. Funny. Even if she doesn't have DDs.
Who knows 🤢🤮
The key of Q
The way the guys in the background are looking at her like a 4 course meal is hilarious lol
Many years ago, I was working as an aide for a middle school summer school program drama program, and the teacher (who wasn't a drama teacher-she was just a teacher who was willing to do the job) suggested that a good project for the class would be to do "A Chorus Line". Never mind trying to get a class of 13 year olds (most of whom had little or no drama experience) ready to do a musical in two months-it was pretty obvious she hadn't seen the show. So I suggested she should rent the movie first. Next day, she started off the planning session by stating we would _not_ be doing this show;
Audrey Landers and Michael Douglas starred together in A Chorus Line? 😱 I never watched that movie! I love them! That’s bizarre! I had no idea!
Great, great, great. Audrey Landers plays in her role with her alltime image.
Absolutely Perfect. Breathtakingly Beautiful too. BJ & the Bears I think. I saw this in London England
Am I the only one who likes this number?🤣
Yes.
No. I love it lol. It's funny in a bad way and bc I know Audrey Landers from Dallas and an episode of the Love Boat.
No
I love it too it’s different
no i like it 😂
Janet Jones is right behind her in the Grey and is like “She ain’t wrong!!!! SING it, sister.” She went on to marry Wayne Gretzky.
Janet Jones is American Anthem. w00f!
One of the best musicals.
Fun Fact: Audrey Landers who played Val couldn't dance and there is multiple dance scenes in the movie where she is flat out missing. Like during the tap routine when Cassie is singing, "What I Did For Love" Val disappears.
Scotch Tape Which stinks because they could have found a triple threat actress to play this role.
@@Mitzi73 They needed someone people already knew I guess, Audrey Landers was already popular at this time as far as I remember...?
Why not give her dancing lessons a lot of people train for there movies
I watched this movie when I was in drama class in high school (more than 20 years ago). I forgot the rest of the movie, but I definitely still remember this part.
0:35 The guy with the unbuttoned white shirt. He is a Solid Gold dancer who is also in Michael Jackson's "Beat It" video. For the latter video, he did miss a step towards the end of the video and made a recovery to get in sync with the other dancers (sort of).
This would be a great audition monologue
A girl I knew actully did for You Can't Take it With you. The directors must have liked it. Cause she got the part.

No thankfully. Considering it was a highschool show that wouldnt go well.
Audrey is very talanted and very good looking!!
I LOVED it! Audrey's singing was great....so was her acting & sense of humor! I find myself humming this song all the time. Randy Rainbow did a parody of orange man to this tune..... funny AF!
Musical 10 movie 3
I thought the last musical production of A Chorus Line ended in 1983. How did you see it? Off Broadway somewhere else?
Remy Lov aye, there was a revival in 2006. And also, I never actually saw it. I was in a local production of it, haha.

DRamarch--Some commenters (like you) need to write for a living. I belly laughed. Very good--keep commenting. I saw the original Broadway play in 1978 on a "week in NYC" trip in high school with 3 friends and my drama coach and two other teachers. It was FABULOUS--I was country-come-to-town from Alabama.
She's gorgeous
Audrey Landers was a hot item in the 80's
YT recommended this- w/o any background knowledge I enjoyed this.
this is more like looks 10, dance 0.
Nah they can all dance. Singing is a different story tho
Audrey Landers is not a trained dancer. In fact a body double does her dancing in the finale "One".
@@michaelweinmann3679 And the lyrics, ‡!%§ and @$&, what's up with that??😂😂😂
@Joe Duke Damn, going in deep.
Looks 7, dance 5.
She's really beautiful
This has to be Audrey Landers biggest moment. Most memorable for me.
Still don't get why Audrey Landers didn't become a huge star. She is a 10
I know. I absolutely loved her in both Dallas'. Her body was TIIIIIGHT in the 80s My goodness
She actually cannot dance much at all. Matter of fact, we really do not see her dancing much of the movie at all; careful editing!
She cant dance and cant sing
CarterWolf1189 yet neither can Kim Kardashian and she is a huge star.
Maybe she wouldn't put out for the likes of Harvey Weinstein.
This is why I love BROADWAY musicals
Fabulous and Broadway perfect
That's an excellent audition
Wait.....she PAID for an A cup?
I love her version of this song!
She is soooo good!
This looks like a fun movie I'm going to check it out
Boy she's soooooooo good!!!!
Of all the shows that should have been filmed live over a movie adaptation, this should have been the one... In the real world you aren’t going to have a dance audition for a broadway show at the theater. It be in a studio. I realize that’s how the stage musical is set up but that’s because it is on stage.
I know this is a bit of an old comment, but up until relatively recently it was common for auditions to actually be conducted on the stage of the theatre. Now of course it's all done in studios, but auditions onstage in Broadway theatres are sort of an iconic symbol of the golden years of Broadway - think scenes in 42nd Street, The Producers, etc.
I played this on my phone at work before we opened the store, My boss was appauled.
I thought she said, “He didn’t like my pancakes “ 🤣🤣🤣
I love her hair
I think the film is great and I love this scene
A GOD DAMN PARADE. That made my day 🤣
And..she's right. In 2019.
Love it!! Had no idea she was in this classic 💞
Had this film on video when I was a teen .. ( don't know how it came in my possession lol) seen it quite a few times haha
She has such a great ..... Personality !
yall gotta understand even if the script is the same live acting will always be different than on a screen even when its the same person on both.
Dang, these lyrics. Wowza!
Ah, the Landers sisters. I had such a crush back in the day.
..love the landers sisters !
She’s fab 👍
I thank God for You. Love&Light
she sounds like Marilyn Monroe in gentlemen prefer blondes
I didn't know they made a movie of this until right now. And after watching this scene, I know why.
2:39 THE DUDE STARING AT THE BACK LMFAOOO
T&A? She must have bought them on clearance because those are tiny! Lol Anyway. This was my first musical back in 92 when I was 13 and this was my favorite part. ♡
Shes gorgeous, obviously but that's all natural hardware.
This was made when women were SKINNY! She is curvier than many actresses if that period!
Such a good scene 😂
I saw this , and had know idea what was happening to me, but I loved , being there. I have the album.
Yeah Michael is fantastic actor .
34 years ago--God, I'm old.
She seems to have no bones in her arms! Fantastic. Compare to other performers and they seem robotic. The Rizzo character in Grease (Stockard Channing) is similar, outshining others who tried the role.
I looove the red shoes!
Haha I’m seeing it next week 😍😍😍 I’ve never seen it before and I literally laughed when that’s the first thing she said (I haven’t seen this film or clip before) 🤣
She is pretty and has a good voice!
great song
I dont really get why ppl hate this so much I mean i love the play and i love the movie version too 🙃♡ why choose ?
ok the singing is really bad and the acting is better in the musical too.
Bc ppl like to compare movies to plays and bc plays are less accessible to minorities. So a rich whitey can say "oh the play is better" and someone who ahs never ever been to a play and see this movie and be like "i love this movie, it was so much fun." If more ppl were able to go to a play more than a theater, I guarantee you that these comparisons will be less full of themselves.
@@remylov661 But it has nothing to do with my race, financial status or view of self. The musical is just legitimately better, and pretty much everyone I know, regardless of those labels agree. The movie isn't terrible, but it can't hold a candle to the musical. If you don't believe the criticisms, and still believe people are just saying that because they're white, go watch one of the many bootlegs online, and come back.
@@jamiehood850 When I said that, I was saying that to be flippant about how theater is often heralded as the great end all and be all in every category. I'm sure the play is better. I don't doubt that the play is better. But A Chorus Line isn't playing in Hollywood and most ppl that can afford to go are not of color. That's the truth. Also? The only movie version that I know is this one from the 80's with it's cheesy 80's leg warmers, in the closet dancers and actors (that we knew were gay lol) and actors we knew before they were famous. I love this film maybe in part because I lived in NYC in the 80's and fondly remember all the styles of that time.
@@remylov661Ok, fair point. There are some videos of productions on RUclips that you should def check out, though! It's great that this movie holds such a special place in your heart, though.

l actually like her voice.
This is fantastic- !!! Instagram 2020 foreshadowing
If she had her "bingo bongos done," she didn't get her money's worth. What are they? B cups?
Based on other things I've seen her in, they're probably C's. Not that there's a damn thing wrong with B's. And as I'm sure women have told you before, size isn't the most important thing.
I'd settle for just one of hers!
Audrey Landers, she was very watchable in Dallas.
Doing this monologue for an exam tomorrow pray for me
Am I the only one that actually likes how she does this song?
Everyone seems to hate everything about this movie, for some reason... I'm by no means an expert, but I've seen a lot worse than this. She acts fine, she sings fine. It's not a demanding dance number - I'm presuming it wasn't meant to be - but she does her steps fine, too.
I like it also, but many people here are comparing it to the live musical (no movie can compete with that).
She’s not wrong
Its Afton from Dallas 🤩
I saw this on the original run on Broadway. Spectacular show (especially this number). So, why in the world would you hire a actress with an A-cup and a flat rump to do this role in the film? She has a great voice, but, physically, this makes NO sense.
Yyyyyyup! I’m looking!
