FILM DESCRIPTION:
Hundreds of hopefuls congregate at a cattle call for Broadway dancers. A sour director, Zach (Michael Douglas), and his brusque assistant (Terrence Mann) whittle down the ranks until they're left with 16 dancers. All tell their life stories -- some tragic, some comic -- and explain their love of dance. Tension mounts when Cassie (Alyson Reed) -- once both a big star and the director's lover but now desperate for a part -- auditions. But Zach must choose only the best for his show.

All of you, I was a dancer/ always will be, and she did a Stunning job with what she was given - I saw Chorus line in London and in New York, and while the film version was not like the live version, one had to accept whatever cuts they made. She is a stunning dancer.
Well, it's not "Music and the Mirror", but her dancing is awfully good ....
The biggest mistake they made when making this film is cutting “The Music and The Mirror,” for this. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.
I grew watching this, so only saw Music and the mirror much later, but still always loved this scene and that woman's phenomenal dancing
I could watch Alyson over & over in this.. & The Music and the mirror scene! SO VERY BEAUTIFUL!!!
Everyone is commenting about how Alyson Reid was in HSM, and I’m here angry that they omitted “Music and the Mirror” for this.
Right? Currently playing this musical and Music and the Mirror is definitely the strongest piece. This is awful lol.
exactly ....
I remember being trapped in a screening of this abomination for theater group thinking it couldn't get any worse - and then this came on instead of Music and the Mirror!
Agreed. I was okay with them putting Surprise Surprise in in place of most of Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen, Hello Love" and "Montage Part 4: Gimme The Ball, but The Music and the Mirror was is a beautiful song and great dance number. This is a good song, but MatM is better. Additionally they changed the meaning of What I Did For Love by changing who’s sang it. I could go on.
@@Mxyzptlksac The whole movie is a mistake, and the fact that Jeffrey Hornaday based this dance so closely on how Michael Bennett built it on Donna McKechnie is proof of how beholden any movie was going to be to the original. Alyson Reed is great, and even Michael Douglas isn't wrong for Zach, but the situation throughout the movie is torqued just enough out of place to be insulting to the original.
And this is why she ended up being a theater teacher in a disney original musical
And when I saw that I didn't recognized her for the first time…
@@CzechKitsune at first I though, it was Dianne Wiest there, until I rechecked.
@@martinb.770 I just thought that she remained me somebody, and after some time I saw Chorus line (again) and I realize from where I know her... 😊
Oh my god that is her! I never put it together!
Oh.my.god. i was dyyyying to remember where i've seen herr!!! Thanks!! lol
The drama teacher from hsm
:0
I NEVER REALIZED THAT
@@dorothymaskara8071 yep that's hee
WHOAAAAAAAAT?! You've just blow my mind
WE HAVE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR CELL PHONES
This is fabulously corny and I’m soooooooooooo here for it
All I hear is Ms. Darbus from High School Musical
I play her character in High School musical in the production I'm doing lol
No wonder Ms. Darbus became a theater teacher.
Lmao
So I was desperately trying to find the movie version of Music and the Mirror because I loved the song from the 1975 soundtrack. Makes me sad that they cut it, her dancing is good but the song itself pales in comparison.
Even if 'Music and the Mirror' ran too long they couldve cut off the dancing/instrumental part of it and just kept the parts with the lyrics...but hey. Whats done is done
I still can't believe they cut The Music and the Mirror
She's gorgeous 😍
This is my favorite part of the movie. Absolutely love this song and Alison's professionalism in dance. Sadly when I saw the play at the Shubert Theater, this song was left out.
@ some people have only seen the movie so they dont realize the Mirror song was left out of the movie THEN they see the play. What ever medium you see this story in either the play or the movie that becomes you favorite version of the story. Both songs are by Hamlesch so at least we have that! xo
I saw it at the Shubert in Century City years ago and it's my favorite musical.
@@TheCBKgirl I saw the movie first and then I watched the original stage musical on RUclips. The movie version of Cassie is beyond annoying and tbh ruins the plot/overall meaning of the movie.
First of all Movie Cassie shows up hella late to the auditions, unlike all the other hard-working dancers. Next, there are literally at least 3 scenes where Cassie goes “Zach can I talk to you?”, Zach says “not now”, Cassie pretends she’s gonna leave, then Larry drags her back. This is the bulk of Movie Cassie’s storyline, and it’s honestly just annoying that we keep switching away from the main interest of the movie to this Cassie nonsense backstage. What makes Movie Cassie the worst is that she’s seemingly more interested in using her old relationship with Zach to manipulate him into giving her a job, rather than being there because she’s truly “a dancer”. Even in the movie during what should have been the “Music and the Mirror” scene, old frumpy Movie Cassie’s dance solo was interrupted so that she and Zach could have a romantic embrace during a flashback?? (Lame). To top it off Movie Cassie stole Diana Morales’s song “what I did for love”, which should actually be sung by the ensemble led by Morales. Movie Cassie reappropriates the song, and completely changes the meaning of the finale: instead of being about what the dancers would do if they had to give up their lifelong passion (dancing), “what I did for love” in the movie becomes about Cassie’s old relationship with Zach. FAIL.
Overall I think the stage version is MUCH better, because it minimizes Cassie and doesn’t push the other chorus line members to the back.
Alyson Reed was on Greys Anatomy episode! Recognized her (older) immediately! I loved her in the movie “ Chorus Line “!❤❤❤
"Give me the chance in my woolly jazz pants!"
I was looking for a F&S reference on this :)
Look up French and Saunders - Wooly Jazz Pants (Cassie Broadway) lol it's a fantastic send-up of a scene that's considered a classic in the genre of Dance Film
I love this song from the movie!
Wrong
@@collinkilloran5721 rude
Why did they murder "The Music and the Mirror" - one of the greatest dance sequences in Broadway history?!?? What was wrong with the music and the mirror?!? This is crap!
halsatia yes it is this sucks
A goddamn love story. They omitted one of the most iconic pieces in the canon of musical theatre to turn this heartfelt, incredible into a trite, boring love story.
I'm doing now A chorus line playing Cassie. It's the best character!
leyrecvv Great job!
Maybe try again for the Spring Musical
The theatre waits for no one!!
As Captain America says I understood that reference
Belle gambe,bella voce.Bel film
to be honest this isnt even a bad song, but why did they have to cut the music and the mirror?
Exactly!! This songs not the worst but also why bother making this film if ur not gonna include one of the most iconic songs in the show like- 😑
I don’t consider this film canon lol. They really need to remake this musical into a film and give it a 70s retro feel and include the actual songs.
@@feastoffun apparently Ryan Murphy’s doing a series of it on Netflix soon...😶 so maybe that’ll do it some justice but idk if it’ll be a 70’s retro feel it might be modernized to today but we’ll see
It’s a dreadful song. I would sack Marvin Hamlisch if he handed me this.
what? they cut MUSIC AND THE MIRROR? The strongest monologue and piece? HAHAHAHAHA WHY???
Fantastic scene
Oh, how I love this scene, this movie
最高のシーン😭
WHY do u cut the last scene? No point. The last minutes are amazing!! Shame on you
They thought this was better than Music and the Mirror? Smdh
Awesome
Her legs are BEAUTIFUL like Juliet Prowess!!! Has A Ton but Prowse...
Noooo...... you've cut the best part.
This is my favorite cassie.
Ally McBeal Season 5, Episode 19.... Elaune trys out for A Chorus Line. -- brought me here.
That body though!!!#
Lauren Pederson , she has a very beautiful shape that is perfect for dancers.
I actually really like the song though-
Casey’s my favorite💕💕💕💕 And I love this movie💕💕💕
High School Musical precuel?
This was supposed to be a 70's environment (like the broadway show) , but they changed everything to the 80's aesthetic, including the songs (with this very 80's keyboard soundtrack) and that's why everything is so uncanny. And I won't even mention "Music and the Mirror" RIP
Dang, I don't even remember her from this movie lol. She didn't leave much of an impression.
No one's commenting on how Hank Pym is in this--
Anybody know the name of the second part of the song
Could they not get the original Music and The Mirror song?
Wait... Is she a dancer?
😍
MRS. DARBUS???????
It's her!
shoulda cast her as Sharpay smh...
the TALENT! she woulda killed
juan
Why tf did they cut the video off mid scene??
What IS this?????????????
The most annoying character in a film FILLED with them!
this is crap compared to MatM!! also, where's the red leotard and skirt?? ugh
This is horrific
They should have picked a better singer for this. She's just screaming.
worst one,why she is in cast is beyond.
can you dance better than her ???
Steve Ellis , she is a stronger dancer than me.
How did she get this role? Yikes!
I wasnt too fond of her either. She wasnt fabulous enough for me.
This crap ruined the movie. Ick.
This is horrible
Wow, horrible!
I hate this song.
This is one stupid movie!
