FILM DESCRIPTION:
Hundreds of hopefuls congregate at a cattle call for Broadway dancers. A sour director, Zach (Michael Douglas), and his brusque assistant (Terrence Mann) whittle down the ranks until they're left with 16 dancers. All tell their life stories -- some tragic, some comic -- and explain their love of dance. Tension mounts when Cassie (Alyson Reed) -- once both a big star and the director's lover but now desperate for a part -- auditions. But Zach must choose only the best for his show.

For anyone who couldn't figure it out, he meows because he was in "Cats" on Broadway at the time.
I can totally see him as a Mistoffeeles or Mungojerry. They're both bouncy :)
He wasn’t in Cats.
wish I could do that
THANK YOU! Who in THE HELL told them Charles William McGowan was in CATS?!
I really like this guy! Great dancing and silliness...
Charlie was the life of all the family gatherings.
@@johnmcgowan2348 fellow chorus line alumni Michael Blevins wishes you well
Yeah like me !
I'm very sorry about your uncle I only found out he passed away in 2013 he was some performer RIP Charlie
Such great dancing. What an inspiration he was in this.
Sadly, Charles William McGowan passed due to complications during kidney surgery 9/5/2013. The 2014 Tony Awards program listed him in tribute on its In Memoriam page.
😿😿😿
Makes me sad. He was such an amazing dancer and so cute too. Probably the best male dancer in the movie. RIP Charlie. I'm sure you inspired a lot of little boys, and girls, to dance.
Did you know him?
He strongly resembles Loren Avedon
He was a patient of mine for about 6 months before the surgery. Everyone loved him. He even mentored the guy in the room next to him as he was going through the same things Charlie had once experienced. We were all upset when we found out he passed away and they left his room empty for a few months afterwards. He was just a great human being. Whenever "Beat It" comes on the radio I say "Hi Charlie " because he was in the video.
Amazing Combo of Styles. Homage to Dance Productions Dating back to Silent & Black & White Filmmakers.
What a cutie
Talent
Sad he died at 53 in 2013 complications after surgery in Cali......talented guy
Outstanding number ever in Cinemascope wide screenshot stereophonic historical. Bravo
Awesome! I felt like I could dance for a moment to. So brilliant the way the move.❤
This popped in my head for some reason from my childhood. I had to find it
So sad he died - RIP Charlie McGowan
and Tony fields and Gregg burge both pasted away, How did charlie die?, this film made me take up dancing i watched it hundreds of times
What no really, wasn’t he married to Pam Dawber from Mindy and mork
One of the girls looks like a young Angie Dickinson
@@maxipaz5597 Yes the one in the grey with blonde hair nice body she had
MAXI PAZ No he wasn’t.
I adore whole movie!!!!!!!!!! Fantastic dancers! Music......... !!!
お見事すぎる!!なんてかっこいいの!
It’s so fantastic 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Love this. He was also in grease 2. Such a phenomenal dancer and talent. He’s also an Aquarius which means he’s awesome lol RIP
He was phenomenal 🥀
Awesome !. A great and a pure talent !.
I wish i could do that. Lol.
That is pure talent...!!! Eden
Charles Mcgowen he passed away in 2013 took me ages to get his name he was in grease 2 as one of the prep tones and had other scenes basketballer at the start sings in the reproduction song and is dancing in the bowling alley
Oh I remember this song being sung in the ABC tv series, “The Goldbergs” specifically in the episode, “A Chorus Lie.”
I missed this movie very much❤❤❤
Michael was more interested in dancing than his sister.
Yeah, that's the whole point of the song

You know, you're right about that.
The best musical themes were from the 60s and early 70 shows. I loved anything Lalo Schifrin(sp) wrote.
This was the high point of the movie. All that moaning and barking and crying, the tiresome Cassie soap opera, and suddenly there's two minutes of actual musical theater. Very sorry to hear he died -- and so strangely?
Apparently kidney surgery didn't go well for him. He was 53.
素敵なダンサーでした。53歳で亡くなられていたのですね(T_T)
RIP
I can't do that🤣 he's amazing then add Gregg Burke.
The reason the actors look so happy is because they all have jobs.
He was the best male dancer.
goddam if I could move like that!
Notice that his shoes are silent until about 1.28, at which point they suddenly become tap shoes.
That's not unusual, watch any version of one of stage productions or even a video of "Anything Goes" which is a very tap heavy number and you'll see that it's very possible to walk and dance around in tap shoes without actually tapping.
such a shame...the show on stage was genius...the movie just didn't capture that broadway magic like the movie of Chicago did.
Most Broadway shows to movies are like that live shows are better Annie is a good example stage took place during Christmas time movie 4th of July and they added a character in the movie where he didn't exist on stage took out about 2 songs
The movie would have been better had it been directed by a dancer instead of an actor.
Still loved it.❤
Nope. Nope. Didn't link to this version. I understand bailing before cutting to the backstage action, but the end has to be the most insensitive transition since (just for lack of another handy example) Trump's inauguration speech.
;-)
Un panino con sti due, grazie
Young Yuta san 😅😅😅
I always hate when dancers in movies get their feet cut off.
god the transition between him talking and singing is soo bad
“i’dsittherealleagerand - 🔊i’m watchin sis go pitta pat 🔊”
One of the main problems with this movie, it seems... But THE DANCING!! O_o
To me it's perfect. Singing in musicals is non diegetic, meaning inside the actual world of the play he's not singing but simply talking and expressing emotions. So here it's like he's just still talking, the transition doesn't need to be all winded and built up because it's not a break from the scene, it's happening inside it.
@@solarprogeny6736 Bla bla bla...It's still bad.
I loved musicals when I was a teenager, both theatrical and in films and this film was one of my top favourite. Back in 80s I sang in several amateur chorus groups and did some musicals myself too. I used to watch this film repeatedly and didn’t feel any problem ...I liked the way the song started w/o instrumental intro, it would have been more conventional and concert-like w an intro.
Per la Strada con Gennaro Longobardi
Its interesting that the women are in skin tight dancewear but the men can dance in normal clothes!
wtf are those pants
The 80's.
They were in style and easy to dance in,
The only good performance in this movie, but still the singing is not good, because it was recorded in such strange way... Sounds nothing like a musical.
Did I see him trip? Not meant to?
Unremerable.
First
Hahahhahahahahahahhaahha no
You’re cool
