FILM DESCRIPTION:
Hundreds of hopefuls congregate at a cattle call for Broadway dancers. A sour director, Zach (Michael Douglas), and his brusque assistant (Terrence Mann) whittle down the ranks until they're left with 16 dancers. All tell their life stories -- some tragic, some comic -- and explain their love of dance. Tension mounts when Cassie (Alyson Reed) -- once both a big star and the director's lover but now desperate for a part -- auditions. But Zach must choose only the best for his show.

It’s weird if think about how they probably had to audition to play a part of being in audition. It’s like they’re reenacting their own audition for this movie
always loved that about chorus line, how the show is so much a literal acting out of the process of being in that exact show... in the stage version this song has lyrics but a lot of it is just a director talk-singing choreography instructions, in pretty much exactly the way the actual directors / choreographers would have to give the instructions for the same moves to the real actors learning the same choreography as the characters
Method acting! 😊
I'm auditioning for a Broadway part with this choreography😂 it's weird auditioning for a part with and audition piece
Meta
Play within a play, movie within a movie....
I've seen this movie so many times and I still have no idea how anyone could tell how good someone is 4 rows in...
There's gotta be a few screw ups in that crowd for sure
It's easy. They get close ups 😂
@@jessArcade 😂😂😂😂
Say what you want about this movie, but don’t even try to say the choreography and dancing was sub-par.
Yeah the dancing was on point and is so satisfying to watch. I do think it makes up for some of the movies shortcomings. But the movie itself was kinda meh.
Couldn't tell if I was watching a Michael Jackson video or an episode of Solid Gold.
It’s good but the original choreography is so iconic that changing it is like rewriting the Bible
Can we just stand in a moment of silence for the people who had to do this scene in *HIGH HEELS*
They're actually not high heels, they're character shoes. They're heels specifically made for dancing, so they're much more comfortable than a normal heel. :)
@@cherry_preppyBut it's still a HEEL, not a flat shoe like the guys use. 🙃
Women always have it harder
I did after 5 years of dancing in 3 inch heels 👠 your body gets used to it
Everytime I hear it I think of Land of the Lost scene
Choreography is beyond fantastic!!!
even before i saw this i could tell which would be picked; you see the passion and the love in them.
80\s ladies are sooo beautiful
I've done this show, of course, with the original choreography, and I've always felt this opening number dance combination in the film is much better than the opening sequence in the stage version. Having said that, it never made sense to me why the characters are being asked to learn an ultra-modern dance combination in the opening scene of both the stage musical and film and yet the choreography of the ONE song, which is part of the show they're auditioning for, is nothing like that. It's much simpler and "very 1930's" as the director, Zach, tells them.
This movie made me really want to be a dancer Eve more. I was 8 when it came out
watching this once and damn near breaking my back just to be like the girl in green
Her kick at 1:24 was FLAWLESS
Damn dances were something else in the 80s
An artistic show. The word chorus became famous.
Thank you Will Ferrell for the Land of the Lost
Came here after watch land of the lost
Same here😄
Yuhhhhhhh a Classic
Why is no one singing I need this job?
Hahahahaha!!!! We twooooo!!!! Hahahahaha!!!! XD XD

Dr. Rick Marshall would be proud.
I LOVE THEM DANCING BOYS LEG'S!
The guy in the grey shirt was a bit behind and I just couldn’t stop focusing on him
The reviews at the time: Show-10. Film -3
Land of the Lost brought me here !
Oh Shiela ...
The dancing is great, but as the saying goes “If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it.” So I don’t know what they were trying to work on with this movie.
Land of the lost brought me here
Vine por la película de Will Farrel jaja
No, Chakka, bad Chakka.
(Hissss)
Kinda sad how they didn't follow the broadway way. No singing, no ballet parts.
I know, I very much disliked the changes to the original. That being said the dance was performed great, excellent choreo. I didn't like the variations to the music, and they didn't sing 'I Hope I Get It", at all.
@@mysticalmargaret6105 Yes, that disappointed me too. The song is what made it.
But the ones we see all passed the real audition!
doesn´t even contain the i hope i get it
How long is Craig gonna be in there?
Michelle Johnston 😍🥰
In this clip, they do not even sing the lyrics of the song.
The first song, 'I hope I get it’ will start after this scene you know.
Its just old data. Leftover on the drive...😂😂😂😂iykyk
They really messed up with the film adaptation of A Chorus Line
Kinda yeah... to me the tools to make a good adaptation of a chorus line is there, but them changing the music style to match the times, a weird fixation on Cassie’s story which consequentially pushes everyone else to the back. (Like seriously the movie version of What I Did For Love is more about Cassie than it is about the entire cast.)
Big time.
Agreed!!!
The Land of the Lost make me who i am now
Tough competition for a little part hey?
Meanwhile waitressing at some joint and renting a tiny apartment.
Needs more dancers.
I thought the muppets most wanted version was the original.
❤
Mrs.Wayne Gretzky! 😮😮😮
Yeah. Janet Jones 👍👌
Fue tan convincente el papel de Michael Douglas como el odioso director de baile que llegué a detestarlo. Pensaba: ¿Es que a éste nada lo conforma?
Land of lost lol
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻
Where's the lyrics ?
Escena: mala copia de primera escena de "All that jazz"
Chaka.
Treated him like a toilet😂😂😂😂😂
learn a million bars of choreography including a triple pirouette for the audition? the lady who walked out was right

Most things Michael Douglas is in are ruined by his smarmy facial expressions. 🤷🏻♂️
This is the first thing I ever saw him in and I always thought his smarmy face fit the role perfectly :D
Great choreo but I don't like the changes to the original music and script.
This is by far the worst rendition of chorus line, they didn’t even include the song
This has to be one of THE worst adaptations of a Broadway musical to film. The opening number is so completely different and wrong (it's supposed to show how they can dance in a style of the 1930s). How could anyone tell who is doing anything past the send row of dancers? Yes, the coreography is great, but it's also the wrong feel for the show. It also takes away from the dynamic the the CHORUS LINE to change it into a love story between Zack and Cassie. The entire point of the show was to reveal the pain, loss and sacrifice dancers faced to get a job and live. The film missed all that and did the material a disservice. A 1-star piece of crap.
Interesting, i had no idea this was Broadway show so movie in 1985 was my only introduction to the story, and i absolutely loved it. I thought, wow what a new and refreshing idea, but of course i learned some 20 years later that it was just a remake, and by the reactions i have read, very bad one. Its so interesting we have completely different view on a story because of completely different experiences
I love this movie and I don't know what you are talking about. This movie is all about how desperate everybody is for getting a job. It's about getting a living out of your passion. The love story is just on the background and really not very important.
@@danielepetrucci5274 Please refer to my previous reply to worlddd7777, as it appears you have a similar perspective. The choreography isn't nearly as difficult as the original and the scope takes on a totally different angle making it about Zack and Cassie. Keep in mind that my comments are about the adaptation of the original Broadway show and not the merits of the film.

Worst movie ever made. I was never so disappointed.
This film is amazing.
Terrible movie!
Absolutely horrible and embarrassing movie.
This film is awesome.
I love it but the stage play is far better.
