Nothing like a good old sledge hammer... Connect your end in first if your partners end needs welding to the shear wall connection, the sling looks to be more his end and let the crane do all of the work.
I would’ve gaped it low and walk it over from the top flange. Then come back from underneath the top flange to walk it back up using the crane. I’d be asking how much weight he’s got on it to ensure you don’t go past rigging capacity. You can always tell the operator how much weight you want him to take. I like to take 5-10% more then what the piece weighs. I know this vid is a year old and you probably learned some new tricks. I’m a tall guy so I like to get my legs locked in so I can lean over and use all my body weight on the pry. Trying to pry from between the legs is hard as you have limited movement. Either that or bring a come-along lol
Yeah man the thing I learned is to always have the right tools haha. Plus this day was just a shitty day. Every connection connected to the concrete was fucked. Idk why I didn’t think to ask for a come along🤦♂️ appreciate you watching and the advice though bro🙌🏽
@@mayneofsteel yeah I hate making connections to concrete or cmu walls. They’re never straight or plumb and the rarely give you enough slot on the wall clips or imbeds are pored in shitty. I hear ya brother. Love the vids. You get down bro and love watching guys who ain’t afraid to do it all. What local you in?
I always keep a small wedge with me. Put it onto the top flange and get the hammer and start hitting the beam in. Pull the wedge and slap in a dewedag I always have a 3/4 and a 1/2 dage 10" long on my belt. And if all the beams are shit on that edge beam. Carry a 3/4 cumalong with you! Jezz!!
Jeeezus Fu*ing Christ__ buncha rookie comments ! The smart comment is all mine.... ask an older iron worker about a couple of quickie bolts.... that's what we use to close a gap like that. Can't believe nobody else in the peanut gallery suggested quick bolt.... I must be officially old. Local 751
The way you fix has a bad back n early retirement written all over it. No good proving yourself if you’re spending you’re late 40s/50s in scare home. Let the crane take the strain
I’ll be honest I didn’t have my beater on me. Usually I do but I believe I left it in the lift😬 but almost all the connections around the block were hard af. So I blamed the masons🤷🏽♂️
Either slacken the beams behind you it that some work hammer a wedge in between the connection behind you and the beam you’re walking (obviously release the bolts on that fix) you did well getting it in but let yourself down not knowing how to align holes. In the UK where I work if you can’t get it you’re on your own 90% of the time. Learn how to use them tools n bring the right stuff for the job n I might be half decent. Well done for not giving up, btw do you guys tighten every fix straight away? If so leave 3 connections loose then go back after every 3rd connection. UK n I could still school you on the iron;) stay safe
uh oh no content critic. bet you've never done what you've described. or youre at the the beginning of the dunning krueger chart. doesnt matter. Sometimes jobs arent perfect. sometimes shit isnt made right like that brick structure.
As a ironworker myself , I won't sit here and tell ya how he should've done it . Cuz I'll tell ya quick get ur ass over here and show me .. but I do wanna know where is your 8 inch long quick bolt ??

Next time use the pointy or spoon end of your bar and put it where the cope of the beam is and pry towards the clip. Or use a comealong and pull it fro. The next piece over. Or you can get a beater and beat that bitch over.
Honestly bro this video is embarrassing hahaha but whatever. It was one of them days every connection was like this and I was a bit nervous up there. Appreciate the support bro🤘🏽
I still respect this ironworker because he gets up and works for a living way to go dude keep iron working.
I like how it challenges and helps people
Wait til you see the video of him getting laid off because he couldn't get to work on time
People in the comments need to relax. Act like they’ve never had a connection they struggled with before.
I appreciate you bro✊🏾

Get some !!! Use the beater !!! 💪🏼👨🏽🏭. From local 155 🏗

Nice tips work safe
I know this pain. My lazy ass starts yelling for come along. I always carry 100ft of para chord to lower down after I give up.
Someone needs to teach this guy had to connect! At 9:17 he should have used his Bullpen and a beater to align the holes.
And old head once told me to never use a bill pin to connect and I never have even when this happened good ol sleever bar and go
Hell yeah brother, ol reliable 💪🏽 something about bringing out my beater when connecting just ain’t it haha

A pinche come along, that would’ve been perfect for this day.! Idk why I didn’t think of it, or No one offered the idea. Thanks bro🤘🏾

Why did he weld the other side if both sides were not connected
Honestly it’s how we were told to do it. Knowing what I know now I would’ve done this very differently
The way you fix has a bad back n early retirement written all over it. No good proving yourself if you’re spending you’re late 40s/50s in scare home. Let the crane take the strain
Hot rod the flange to make a cope next time. Yeah just turn welder way up
Must not own an 8lbs beater or bull pin??? I guess everyone takes a different approach. That perimeter beam must have one hell of a bow
I’ll be honest I didn’t have my beater on me. Usually I do but I believe I left it in the lift😬 but almost all the connections around the block were hard af. So I blamed the masons🤷🏽♂️
I had a job like this awhile back i bet none of our shit went together easy either
you just get that on these big jobs.
You made that look hard!!! Body, hand placement and leverage is key!!!
Yeah yeah yeah I knowwww. Ain’t my first time connecting. Just a day I wasn’t prepared at all for lol.
Like I said bolt it first then weld it

Fuckin hate that shit. If only we had 3 hands man
Bro 3 hands would be a game changer. Imagine sex lmao
Nice mtn backdrop.

tighter than my ex wifes purse strings.
Cheee good shit always good to learn on your own but always better to have that extra help when needed local 625. Keep on keeping on brotha🤙🏼

You were using that connecting bar all wrong there dude
Can you explain? No ones really taught me any other way and I couldn’t think of anything in the moment lol
Use the spool side and pry behind the beam bro
Learning how to bolt up first helps with learning how to use your tools. Just sayin. Local 29

Where's your beater & bull pin... your just trying.. not doing it .. dammit boy ...
Hurry bolt it
Where do you put the GoPro? On top/front? Or on the side
I put mine on top/front, I like the angle.
@@mayneofsteel awesome!!
Torch the end off
Wtf bro 😂😂
What brand are them kneepads?
Lift apex gel
These have been my favorite out of all the ones I’ve tried
Good looking salute from local229 SANDIEGO

I knew you could do it but didn’t know how facking long it take you lol
Honestly bro this video is embarrassing hahaha but whatever. It was one of them days every connection was like this and I was a bit nervous up there. Appreciate the support bro🤘🏽
Need to get a fitter in there.
Ahh that’s true I didn’t even think of that at the time tbh
Awesome, more yours working videos 👍💪🙂
Get a new bar please. Work safe bro
Where tf is your partner? He should help you. Learn to use the tools. Wtf.
He was busy, if you couldn’t see from the vid lol. And yeah, I am learning. Thanks for watching tho!
Next time bolt it first
Sharpen your sleever.
Wow what a you even got a beater
To much whining kiddo.
