  • I took 6 competition runs in the Honda Civic Type R (CTR) and 2 non-scored runs in the new Toyota GR86.
THINGS I FORGOT TO MENTION IN THE VIDEO:
    1) This was not a scientific test…at all. Last minute decision and just for fun.
    2) Notice the live delta-t timer during each run. They are compared against each of these runs.
    3) The two extra GR86 runs were approved by my competitors and event organizer. They were pre-DNF’d from the results.
    4) I was top pax in the morning with only 3 runs in the CTR. After 3 more runs in the afternoon, everyone got faster, myself included. I ended up 2nd pax for the day by ~.259. The GR86 run would also been 2nd pax by .113.
    5) Both cars as equipped go 59-60 mph in 2nd gear.
    6) Trail braking was effectively not possible with the CTR brakes. A simple pad change will likely fix this problem.
    7) Only 1 social course walk.
    8) My CTR run had approx .4 to .6 seconds of mistakes in it.
    9) I had a passenger in all runs in the CTR with a nearly full tank of gas. GR86 run did not have a passenger and I didn’t note the fuel level.

Surprising result. I just have to mention what a fantastic driver you are. I am not even close to that level.

    GR86 seems smooth as hell.

Thank you, always wondered how my stock '18 CTR would do at autocross. Better than I thought. With a larger turning circle, figured a tight course might work against it. Although it has no trouble transitioning at speed through traffic circles. Great video.

would love to see the result of the 86 with headers, exhaust, and E85 tuned. That’s what I want to do with mine eventually.

I would say the CTR was a little off in handling still (bit too much pushing as stated) but some improvements was made during the day & hopefully can help with future events.

The CTR seems more understeery, especially in long corners (as you mentioned) when you apply the throttle, this is the weakness of front wheel drive cars. On very technical tracks like autocross they are very close. Sadly it would be another story on a racetrack.

its not even fair, you see the second part of the driving how flawless it was, you are shifting moment left to right on the edge of the tires, meanwhile getting the nose pointing at few corners ahead, the first part type r is not bad, I agree, but its pushing everywhere, its not flickable like the toyota.
