    Musically speaking my favorite Nightwish era was the Tarja era. However, I do think Floor is the perfect fit for Nightwish as she has the vocal diversity to navigate the complexities of their music. Tarja is still an amazing singer!

      Guitar noodle I can see where your coming from Tarja is amazing ! Being a fan of Nightwish for 20 years and not being a fan of opera , she taught me to appreciate her craft. Being a metal head she gave it much more depth. Before when was metal ever discribed as. Beautiful or pretty? Touamas is a genius to create compositions that merge two genres into one great sound. Your spot on that Floor fits Nightwish perfectly.

    Siren as in Si-wren like the sirens that lure Odysseus to his death on the rocks. "The Sirens were dangerous bird-women creatures, who lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and singing voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island." This is a great song, keep in mind that Nightwish does run some backing tracks for some of the orchestral parts and some of the backing choir vocals. It would be too expensive to travel with a full orchestra and choir.

    Marko gets plenty of the limelight, you've barely scratched the surface yet! They've a 6th member you haven't seen yet, Troy, and he's as good as the rest of the band. He & Tuomas have another band together with Toumas's wife on vocals called AURI. Tuomas also did a solo album based on the life and times of Scrooge McDuck. It's absolutely brilliant.

  • @fdsannie
    @fdsannie 5 лет назад +5

    Great choice. Tarja does have an amazing voice. As you go along you will realize Tuomas wrote the songs for who was singing at the time. Except for Dark Passion Play, because they did not have a female singer yet after Tarja was let go. Marko sang the demo. Some of it is on RUclips. Then you will be able to hear him sing more............ :-)

    Tuomas' forte is in keyboards, writing and composing epic music, and writing world class poetry. He's not a singer. I heard him say in an interview long ago that, on the first album, he needed a male singer for a few songs but didn't have one. So he did the job himself. And then he followed up with, "After the first album I learned to keep my mouth shut!" Fortunately, with Marco on board, he doesn't have to worry about that any more.

    I hope you will explore more of their early years than the average Nigthwish viewer. There is a lot to love about that era. I'm a latecomer myself, but I dove in deep and I think I understand how it felt to be a fan back then, I appreciate the Tarja era probably as much as the old fans do. And personally can't understand how many fans want to forget the past and pretend Floor is the only singer they ever had, as great as she is.

    • @strogaa
      @strogaa 5 лет назад +1

      I think, it's less "forgetting the past" than some fear for the possibility to cause the old discussion about who fits better or not. There are so many fans, who want to stop this ridiculous longtime arguing (me included), and maybe they/we sometimes sound a bit harsh, when someone tries to pick that up again. That could result in sentences like "Get over it" or "This is the past and we live in the present" or just "She's gone, period" etc.
      That doesn't mean, we want to forget this era, absolutely not. We want to stop discussing about things like "She better never left" and similar stuff.

      @@ollytherock7324 As far as I know, he generally thought that he was recording a demo. But the label decided to release this material as their debut album. And later, in some interviews, to the question “what would he change”, he answered “I would find another singer for those parts” :)

    • @demise0
      @demise0 5 лет назад +2

      @@SokolRock The fact that Tuomas thought it was a demo answers so much for me. Angels Fall First is the only album I don't re-listen to, it's too unrefined or incomplete sounding. A few songs were even refined to appear on later albums. My "head canon" always viewed this album as more of a demo, with Oceanborne being the first real album. It's good to hear that even the genuis Tuomas himself felt the same.

    Tuomas sing on 3 songs from their debut "album", Angels Fall First (I put "album" in quotes because it was originally intended to be a demo, but the label liked it so much that they insisted on releasing it as an album proper). The songs are: Beauty And The beast, The Carpenter and Astral Romance. Apparently, he was embarrassed by his performance and has not sung since then. Although they are not very good per se, I kinda liked the innocent quirky charm of his vocals in these songs. I'm sure if he got some vocal training, he could have become a passable, if not good, singer. With Marco and Troy(and occasionally Tapio Wilska) providing male vocals, there is no need for him to do so. He has enough work with all his keyboard parts and songwriting I suppose. Anyways, enough about that. This is another great Nightwish song (aren't they all?) and the duo of Marco/Tarja is great isn't it? Cheers!

    This might be considered blasphemy but here we go. I’ve been listening to Nightwish since early 2000’s, I kinda stopped when Tarja left, then I discovered Floor about 10 months ago, and I’m back full on board 110%. I loved Tarja she is most definitely one of a kind talent and Nightwish wouldn’t have existed without, but personally I much much prefer Floor now. Floor got so much of a variety and range for her voice to the point that Tarja songs fit Floor better. (In my opinion obviously.. many will disagree with me, and that’s perfectly cool)

    • @timomastosalo
      @timomastosalo 4 года назад

      @@phantom629 Yeah, I'm Finnish too - my sister's name happens to be Tarja also :)
      Finnish always stresses the beginning, 'TARya' is the common way to say it, and even those in whose dialect it can sound as TAriya (like maybe in Kitee, the county in an eastern Finnish province where Nightwsh founders come from), they likely consciously think they say TARya.
      Yet even in those dialectswith the added vowel, the beginning is stressed. The i ('ee') between the r and 'y' might be quite long, and may sound for English ears like it's stressed - but never in Finnish. Speakers of those dialects might not even notice they put the extra vowel there :) And might be hard pressed to say the name without it, even if they consciously tried.
      In the English MAria the -ri- is stressed, the a in Ma- gets the so called neutral sound (I'll use 'uh' for that below): like the e in thE usually is (not the one as 'thEE'). This vowel doesn't even exist in Finnish. So the English Maria( ,muhRIa/,muhREEuh) - like in West Side Story etc., is said quite differently than the Finnish Tarja ('TAr(i...)(,)ya).
      That's why, to adapt the Finnish word to English - Tarya(h) is the best rendition. It comes from the name Daria. Btw. the Finnish t sound is softer then the English one, so some hear it as d (of English).

    • @phantom629
      @phantom629 4 года назад

      @@timomastosalo i pointed out finnish as to say its spelled with a finnish use of alphabet, for me I'm american so the j is pronounced like a g, but I'm used to a spanish influence were j are pronounced like h for instance jorge and george are pronounced the same but in spanish its pronounced hor-hay. I heard her introduce herself she said it as taria, I'm no language expert by any means. But before i heard it i was saying it as targa like the old Porsches with the targa tops my mistake lol

    • @timomastosalo
      @timomastosalo 4 года назад

      @@phantom629 And I just explained why Tarya. An extra vowel may come between r and 'y' (spelled j in Finnsih) - if there comes the vowel, it doesn't matter: it can be dropped. It's a bit like in the Southern USA a name like Dan may sound as broad as 'Dayan' - yet it should be written Dan.
      'Taria' will mislead people, especially where the stress comes. Which can't be anywhere else than in the beginning in Finnish names. And that Taria could be a name in Finnish (just haven't met), and then it would be 3 syllables, like TA-ri-a, whereas Tarja goes like Tar-ja. In comparison, we hav Maria and Marja & Mari as ladies' names, like English has Mary and Maria, Mariah... - same origin, said differently.
      So though there are dialectal variants, it's Tar-ya(h) if spelled in English - and that's advisable to aim at. I know this pretty well: I'm Finnish, I'm a linguist and this is my sister's name also :)
