Very emotional ending to a concert and a tour. U2 did bigger and longer tours but PopMart was (and still is) just special

Egoli, I was there. Kind of an odd tale... I'd chased them around the world for the duration of this tour and had a near-miss at the Ullevi Gothenburg the prior year when I missed the show by a day. I just happened to be in Johannesburg on that weekend... and it was a stunning show.
Poignant memories flooding back this week as we lost Desmond Tutu. Bono gave him and Madiba a namecheck at the intro to 'still haven't found' - to an initial chorus of boos in the audience. Heartbreaking.
The world has moved on since then in many ways - SA's road to freedom still beset with problems. This night was the very beginning of a few years spent in Africa for me - such a treasure to rewatch this show again.

@@lasherza I was in Johannesburg for ~3 years.. then a ~4 years in the UK.. and have been in SW France for 19 years now. I've shaken the itinerant globetrotter bug now, will retire here.

El concierto en Mexico City tuvo mejor sonido y mas ganas.
Los dos son muy buenos. En realidad todos los conciertos a partir de finales del 97 fueron espectaculares. Cuando la banda tomo el pulso y los shows eran colosales...ya era hora de poner fin a la gira. Siempre creí y sigo creyendo que debieron seguir girando todo el 98'

The crew definitely got paid, but not the band. The Pop album tanked and they lost millions of dollars on this tour. It was almost their demise.
