- Target's Phil "The Power" Taylor provided the fairytale ending to his career in Blackpool, with a spectacular 16th and final World Matchplay title.
The most successful player in darts history produced a vintage display to beat world number three Peter Wright 18-8 in his last Winter Gardens campaign before retiring from professional darts at the end of the year.
"The Power" repeatedly punished his opponent's misses, with Taylor hitting more than half his darts at double and averaging in excess of 104 over the course of the match.
"It's lovely, it really is and I've loved every minute of it," said the 16-time Champion.
"To win a major at my age is fantastic, and I've had a tough week when you look at the draw.
"I'll miss this place tremendously - I've loved it here since the first time I walked through the door. It's great to win again and it will go down in history, and I'm delighted for everyone who's supported me."
It completed a stunning series of results from "The Power" - beating the top player from Wales, Gerwyn Price, followed by three fellow World Champions: Raymond van Barneveld, Michael van Gerwen and Adrian Lewis, before taking out UK Open Champion Wright in the final.
16 World Matchplay titles, 16 World Championship titles, Double 16 finish. 30.07.17 - a day to remember.

Well throwing arrows at a board doesn't require that much physical exertion so that helps. Still a phenomenal sportsman though. His record will never be matched!

This was without shadow of a doubt, Taylors greatest victory in recent years. He beat Price, Barney, MVG, Lewis and then Wright (five of the top darts players) to lift his 16th World Matchplay Title. Shame that he won't be defending his title in a few weeks time but in another way, it's a relief as we don't have to worry about him winning tournaments anymore. As I said, best Matchplay of possibly his whole career! Hope you're enjoying retirement from PDC Phil

I throw Target POWER 9FIVE gen 1 24 gram darts (steel-tip) because of him, I am 55 (I will be 56 May 19th) and when I got my $20.00 (in USD) Accudart Starlite dartboard in (baseball darts on the other side) I immediately binned (as you English would say, correct me if I'm wrong) the cheap plastic 6-gram (with brass tips) darts (after using those while I waited for my darts to come in) and used these, what a difference having REAL darts makes in my game, my poor little Accudart board is now a mess, especially up top (5, 20, 1), I have hit a few treble 20s all with these darts!!! Thanks Phil!!! He is THE ONE that got me into darts, now where here in the States can I watch the PDC (it's an 8-hour time difference between here in the western US and England) on TV if not online??? Thanks to both Target and Phil Taylor, THE POWER, THE GOAT!!! He made darts a mainstream sport for me. 11 TV 9-darters says it all for me!!! One of these days I'll hit a 180!!!

Phil is one of greatest sportsmen of all time there is a lot of good darts players coming through now but I dont see Taylors world and matchplay titles being beaten certainty not in my lifetime it would be a great end to end Taylors career if he could win his 17th world title it would be great for phil to meet Micheal Van Gerwin in the final and then beat him Micheal Van Gerwin May is a very good dart player but he will never be as good as Phil Taylor was and still is

MVG got two 9 darters in one game too in competition .....without a nationally broadcast TV audience watching and a huge crowd screaming. Taylor could even control his own ego to not choke on the last dart.
Taylor hit 2 9 darters on television in the Final of the premier League Final 2010.
At least he retired with something
