Pure gold. Dennis making three of the pots that he missed during the 1985 final demonstrates exactly why snooker under pressure is an entirely different. game.
With that Immense pressure your Cueing Arm would probably feel like a big heavy piece of Lead lol like in the 85 final about that Famous black that Steve missed to leave Dennis on to pot and Win when he was walking up to the table to play the shot he said his legs felt that heavy they didn’t feel like his legs haha
As a 22 year old who’s only been interested in snooker for about 6/7 years - it bewilders me to think that Steve Davis used to be perceived as plain and boring! One of the funniest, most charismatic characters about. What a joy this is ❤️
Even in old clips of Steve, he was always charismatic. I think his style of play was seen to be "machine-like", and then his manager played up the "boring" trope. I never really watched snooker properly but it was part of the tapestry of my childhood in the 80s and 90s, these guys were celebrities. All I've been doing today is watching clips of snooker games and I'm considering actually getting into it.
Steves deadpan comedy style with the big ginger wig had me in stitches. He shows hardly any expression, just subtle facial movements and thats proper comedy genius right there.
Every time I watch this match Steve Davis has me in tears. If the whole snooker thing hadn't worked out for him, he would have had a brilliant career in comedy.
Snooker is always so dry as the game progresses and usually there is never conversation between players. This was the most enjoyable snooker match I have ever watched by far. Both are great sports.
I have never smiled and laughed so hard inside watching a game of snooker. Such great legends of the sport really nice people and the most unforgettable frame of snooker in history 1985 and all on the black. This video brought me so much happiness.
Legends, both of them! Can’t believe the BBC aren’t keeping Dennis Taylor and John Virgo on commentary after next season, will miss them both massively.
The winning was only part of why he was disliked. He played a safety game and he played slowly. And he barely showed any emotion. Like Mark said, he was working, but the audiences were used to being entertained. Snooker was awash with colourful characters back then and everyone had their favourite. Watching Davis was like watching an 80s football side go 1-0 up then keep passing it back to the keeper for the rest of the match. Yeah it’s a win, but it’s no fun to watch. It blows my mind that Davis had an entertainer hiding in him all along.
Great to see two of the best ever enjoying themselves and still entertaining the crowd and viewers all these years later. Just two mates playing a frame, having a laugh about the greatest final ever!
I have watched this so many times, and every time, I laugh my ass off. This is so so funny, and so great to see two legends have so much fun in brotherly commendment of their ages-old fraternal competitive respect for one another. This is so funny! And it is also just heart warming.
Lovely. To have such a dramatic sporting event, and then 20 or 30 years later to have the two participants larking about and taking the piss out of each other - and themselves. They are both a credit to the game, and great television.
The skill they had to make you believe that they were missing and the skill was gone. This is gold ! Two real legends of the game. In this beautiful comic masterpiece ✨️
Thankyou so much for uploading this, it was a magical piece of snooker history. These guys are just such great sports, and i don't think ive seen this in any other sports at all, i laughed till i cried and then some.. thanks again
I enjoyed this so much! Taking the edge off the game by playing a friendly frame first before getting serious really does work in my experience. It reminds us (club amateur players) that first and foremost, you are friends first, opponents second. Excellent video
This has been seen several times by me now. Maybe 10x.. Plus this 1.. I will continue to watch this ..several more times.. It is ' Hilarious '... Who said snooker was dull?... Get a life .. Well done to 2 Pro's.. it's been a pleasure
I remember watching that in my living room as a 14 year old kid. I had school the next day but sat up to 1am glued to that. It was Monday morning the school to. Before they changed the last session to a Monday night. One of the very few occasions where everyone knew exactly where and what they were doing that night all those years ago. Nearly 40 years ago now
An era of snooker that will never be repeated... it was just... fecking fantastic. It also gave us tv lasting into the small hours ... which wasn't happening! Had everyone luckily enough to watch it all enthralled.
steve's interview in the beginning, he used the style he had back in the late 70's and 80's when one of his nicknames was steve "entertaining" davis, because he didn't laughed at all and was very serious all the time.
Nice to watch these icons play like a couple of grandads down the con club total respect to both players from the 80s Steve Davies won everything no player could match him ❤ this was memorable one of the best matches ever
I remembered the 1985 final between Steve Davis and Dennis Taylor. I was only 4 years old and it happened to be on the same day as my Christening. Everyone who attended my Christening coming back to our house for a party afterwards and then watching the final right up to the end. This rematch was brilliant. Very humorous, both Steve and Dennis.
@@Tomsm8 😂 Definitely the corner looking down from the baulk end..... the right corner pocket. Dennis seemed to be rubbing it in to Davis on here 😂 keeps potting in the pockets he’s not supposed to be, based upon the way he originally played those shots in the final. Talk about the luck of the Irish ☘️
@@ScottyBugler2005 just curious if their memories are playing up haha. it was brilliant to watch and I enjoyed every bit, I didn't realise Dennis actually went and kissed the trophy beforehand though. think that gave him the edge in the end.
@@Tomsm8 i thought it was usually considered bad luck to touch a trophy before you’ve actually won it. Preemptive kiss of the trophy and Dennis must’ve thought he was kissing a magical Blarney Stone 😂 Good job that old superstition isn’t true.
One of the nicest, funniest and most positive things I have seen in many years. Two wonderful gems. Thanks Steve and Denis for the moments and the star quality.
Thanks for this - I was feeling so down about the state of the world in general and my life in particular, but this really cheered me up and gave me a much needed laugh!
steve did a show called a frame with davis where he played a frame with celebrities. whomever the guest was, steve was always by far the funniest. very witty and self deprecating. could easily have been a proper comic if he had wanted. thoroughly good bloke too. was never my favourite player but i grew to love him.
I was a teen and watched this live back in the days wow!! I hated Steve at the time but after he lost I couple times I started to like him, however he was one the all time greatest players regardless
That was one late night snooker match seeing it as a kid. The 1980s had the best sporting moments, that people who were old enough to remember the 1980s remember. Steve davis was like a robot back then, he literally never showed any emotion. You would not think its the same person today, for all those who saw him play back then.
Very funny but also very clever! They do this as a corporate show, it’s incredibly hard to make things look unrehearsed and chaotic, but I bet it is meticulously rehearsed… I’d love to see them do it live again
I was 15 at the time one of my favourite sporting moments and even though I wanted Steve to lose he showed after and still shows what a class person both on and off the table he is and also that season Dennis won the grand prix his first ranking win just after his Mum had passed away. They both won their semi finals in with a session to spare were the best two players in that championship
Steve was always one of the funniest players off the baize. He was just so deadpan & concentrated during matches he got the reputation for being boring, exploited by the likes of Spitting image. Just a thoroughly nice bloke.
Dennis pots every shot he missed that night and misses the pot he sunk...while Steve pots the one he missed??!! Come on man...the comedy gods were in on this 🤣
Being a Yank, I knew nothing of the '85 'Black Ball' Final until I watched the 'Gods of Snooker' documentary last year. Knowing that context makes this even more entertaining, and damn if Steve and Dennis aren't comedy gold!
Steve is such a great sport during this. He really is one of the greatest.
And has comic talents aswell.
hes bloody funny int he
Random fact... Steve used to be the president of the British Chess Federation.
I totally agree. True sportsman and a very dry sense of humour. Terrific for the sport
the greatest among the greatests

He only seemed boring when characters like Alex Higgins were around.
Even at the time he was my favourite. Was gutted when he lost this one, and again afterwards in such close fashion. He was almost an 8 time champ.
because unlike some players he doesn;t need to be controversial to get his class across.
He wasn't boring he was Steve "interesting" Davis.
Year on year, I always find myself coming back to watch this match. It never fails to stick a smile on my face.
Classic
JV in a right mood that day... obviously he knew where the cue ball was going!
When Dennis kept accidentally potting the black 😂
And then missing the one he was supposed to pot just made it even funnier!
Especially considering that Dennis and Steve tried multiple doubles for the same left center pocket during the frame, and all previous ones missed.
Steves deadpan comedy style with the big ginger wig had me in stitches. He shows hardly any expression, just subtle facial movements and thats proper comedy genius right there.
Dennis pots every bloody shot at the end. Cracked me up.
Apart from the one he actually potted 🤣
even steve potted the thin cut he missed hahaha
He was loving it
He's a pro
Every time I watch this match Steve Davis has me in tears. If the whole snooker thing hadn't worked out for him, he would have had a brilliant career in comedy.
maybe not comedy, i think he would have been a superb stand up comedian without doubt, but his Dj career is doing good though
Stand up is hard. So is comedy.
So is writing.
I highly doubt he'd be good up on stage.
@@Prof.Pwnalot he was just in front of hundreds of people being funny as fuck on stage so ummm he already is
His cameo in The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret was pretty good.
@@jimbobmaximus515 plus, the Crucible is a theatre anyway, so on stage he most certainly was.

Hammern28. These two are Snooker's Morecambe and Wise. Bloody hilarious
I think this is great but I do wish the commentators would shut up as Davis and Taylor are far more entertaining commenting on each other.

Probably get 2 women in to commentate and make sure 1 of them is black to please all the lefties

This may be, simultaneously, the worst and the best frame of snooker ever played. Both of these gentlemen are legends and true entertainers.
Funny how things turn around.. Steve now loved by millions, in he's hay day, wasn't to popular because he was winning everything. What a legend he is.
