He came to my university Faculty of Music. I am proud that I had a private lesson with this musician! I also recall his recital, and several performances at International Horn Conventions which I attended. Perhaps not my favourite soloist, but an amazing musician and horn player!
Grandisimo Baumann ❤️
Such fresh music! From the 75-year-old Glyer! Just incredible! I've been with the Mariinsky Theater Symphony Orchestra for 10 years! I play 300 performances and concerts a year, literally every day with 1 weekend a week! But this is one of the few composers who is extremely enjoyable to listen to!
The first rule of music is there are no rules. Music is about feeling. If someone were singing this, no one would object to the vibrato. Personally, I think all these horn "purists" need to quick picking this apart and enjoy the fantastic performance.
What is a descant horn? Is it easier to play high notes? By easier, I don't mean easier to land on. I mean less breath support or whatever it takes to play high. (I could never do it without lots of pressure on the mouthpiece).
@FilmComposeRaHoppe My favorite Gliere works are this concerto, his 3rd symphony ("Ilya Muromets"), and the ballet The Red Poppy. Try amazon.com. The best in my opinion are under the record label Naxos. Just add it after the work in the search bar. Hope that helps!
@Haeronthegreat How dare you to say anything like this! You are talking about Hermann Baumann; the king of Hornplayers; this man probably made the best recording from Glière HORN Concerto ever; together with the life recording from Valerie Polekh. Did you heard the great recording from Polekh? No I am sure you don't known this one. If you can, listen to it, probably you will say that Polekh sounds like a euphonium to...Wash you mouth with detergent before you say anything about suchlike artists.
Grazie 🙏 Baumann ❤
I wish he had played it with the horn in the picture hahaha
IMHO, the best version ever, including Polekh's and Baborak's

Bravíssimo!!!
La mejor version del concierto de Gliere de todos los tiempos. Baumann ❤️❤️❤️
Tribute to the hornist Hermann Baumann, remembering his recordings and his musical career.
@P0dDels Some kind of descant horn. This photo was from the Quoniam in the Mass in B minor with Richter.

Yes, then it's probably the Mod. 99 from Alexander.
Baumann always played on Alexander.
