I recently acquired the Zojirushi and decided to donate my Instapot and Black & Decker rice cooker. This machine is truly remarkable. Over the years, these units have become more budget-friendly. I appreciate you sharing the recipe. I'm planning to use the timer feature to have them ready for the morning :)
I just got the Zojirushi to replace my good ole Aroma. I exclusively cook rice and oatmeal in my old one. Tonight I cooked rice for the first time in the zojirushi and absolutely loved it! I’m excited to make oats tomorrow!!
@@alexitanguay I’ll be honest… not good at all. They got stuck to the bottom of the pot; in a way that if it was to be any other cooker, it would’ve burnt. I added extra milk and mixed it up and it was… fine. Not worth it for how long it took and the overall outcome. Worth saying I didn’t have steel cut oats, just rolled oats so I’ll try with steel cut next time.
The steel cut outs will produce a much better result...I would also suggest adding the milk after cooking..the regular rolled outs paired with milk will most likely cause burning on the bottom. My vid was more about the cooking of steel cut oats than rolled oats. Although they are both oats,,density and cooking methods very different.
@@haroldallaberg6359 agreed, it's because rolled oats have much larger surface area and are very thin making them perfect candidates for burning/sticking to the bottom. Rolled oats in my opinion are easy enough microwaved for 3-5 minutes whereas steel cut oats require at least 30 mins-1 hr but in my opinion are the least processed (excluding oat groats) and the best tasting.
Great video. You might want to demonstrate the timer function. My sister uses that exact same rice cooker and puts the water and oats in the night before and programs it to have the oatmeal cooked for 6:00 AM the next morning.
I cook my steel cut by double boiling in my slow cooker and have it set on a timer to start a few hours before I wake up. NOW.... I'm going to buy a rice cooker. Thanks. And from this Australian army veteran to you a US Navy veteran I say hello to you.
My Zojirushi should be arriving tomorrow. After using it for rice, I'll give steel cut oats a try for breakfast. Didn't know what brand to get, so I just ordered a tin of McCann's like you used. Thanks for showing how easy it is to do. Cheers!
With a Zojirushi you can set an auto timer so that the machine will turn on have and have your rice or oats fully cooked at the time you set the machine to. I use my Zojirushi to cook my oats for 6am so I can fill a container and take to work for my breakfast. Really nice being able to prep the oats the night before and waking up to fully cooked oats in the morning.
Mike, when I first saw this....I thought for sure we were going to see "Steel Cut Oats in the Air Fryer" LOL! Looks great; I'll give it a try, and thanks!
I think to save time and mess I would simply place the plastic cup over rice cooker bowl. Pour in desired amount, poor any spillage back in can, then pour in measured oats. But then again I'm lazy lol Thanks for the video, looking forward to trying this!
I picked up my new rice cooker yesterday, a Panasonic. The first thing I cooked in it? Porridge for today’s breakfast. It’s a game changer; it was beautifully creamy and nutty. I put it on time delay and it was ready when I got up. No sticky porridge pot to clean anymore! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🌹❣️ Now I wonder if pasta can be cooked in the rice cooker… 😺😯🙄
Hey, Mike! Great video! As a single man, I really enjoy using the rice cooker to prepare meals. It keeps clean up to a minimum and it does a great job. Do you happen to have any other practical and simple recipes that can be used in a rice cooker? Unfortunately, I'm not very creative and would love some new ideas to try. Thanks!
Clean up with a rice cooker really is easy...you can reheat leftovers in your rice cooker..just make sure the temp of the reheated leftovers reaches 165 degrees. Canned soups work well.
The instant personally I use when in a hotel since all I need is hot water, I might add bananas or more apple but at home I prefer the rolled oats. Thanks for the video.
Some videos on RUclips take forever, I have a 30-dollar rice cooker with delay up to 15 hours. And to set it up takes less than 10 seconds. Here is what I do: press power button, press delay button, press + button for each hour, then white rice. I set it up at 10 pm and at 7 in the morning I have my breakfast ready to eat.
To Zojirushi: “one cup” = only SIX ounces (U S liquid volume measure). The chopped walnuts and dried cranberries or dried blueberries)10 grams each per one serving should be added before closing the rice cooker and starting the cooking process.
Thanks for the view. I'll be posting another video of how to set up delayed start where you can set your oats up before you go to bed and be ready in the am. Also testing the delayed rice cooking feature.
Hello, Mike! Thank you for the great video! I'm thinking of buying a Zojirushi myself, but the one model I've been eyeing has a "Porridge" mode rather than "Steel Cut Oats". Would there be much of a difference between the two modes? Will my oats be as perfectly cooked and mouth-watering as the ones on this video? Thanks in advance!
I have the same model as you and the porridge setting did NOT turn out! The number 1 line for water is at the very top of the pot (completely full) which was way too much. :( Mike, can you advise a measurement of water for those of us that don’t have the steel cut oats line to measure? Thank you so much and I loved your video!
@@hqcart1 just place the Steel cut oats in your rice cooker with the appropriate amount of water then start. The Cooking principle is the same for rice cookers. They are jacketed to provide side and bottom even cooking whether you have a cheap $30 rice cooker or a $200 cooker. Just give it a try and let me know.
@@mikethestewburner5505 I’m going to try it, too. I suspect it might take just a tad longer cooking time, but I don’t know. I’ll see what happens!😊 Thanks for your reply.
I just watched this, Mike, because I was craving oatmeal for breakfast even though it’s 100° here in California!! I purchased the Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy six months ago as my smaller one had died…I’m going to use the organic sprouted rolled oats (which I bought just to try) for breakfast so wish me luck!!! On an added note: anyone who questions the Neuro Fuzzy capabilities, don’t…best performance ever for a rice cooker…

I was screaming inside when the metal spoon scraps the pot.
Yeah, me too. stop putting metal utensils in your rice cooker you noob!!
same
Yup. Mine came with a plastic flat(is) spoon. I did cringe when I saw that metal spoon go in.

Get rid of the metal spoon.
Glad to see someone use the cup that comes with it!!!
I'm now addicted to steel cut oats!!!
