    I think the chest having the C on it was a really good choice actually because these cybermen (or at least the rise of the cybermen/age of steel episodes) were meant to be a representation of how dependent and trusting we are of corporations. This is cybus industries product, of course they’re gonna brand it, even when you think about it it is using a person who has been horribly murdered and converted against their will to advertise your company, no thought of actual people

    "Why would they convert animals?" You know, the whole point of the Cyber Shades was, they did the labor, or scouting, not the usual Cyberman stuff, like upgrading people, or deleting incompatible ones. They were lost in a fairly primitive era (wasn't it Victorian England? Not quite the best time era to start a Cyberman population), so desperate times ask for desperate acts. That's why they converted animals even when in every other instances, those were ignored.

    The Mondas design has so many subtle things that evoke medicine and death we already understand; The headpiece resembles an electric chair cap, the mask is essentially a burn compression mask, the chestpiece is like a miniaturized iron lung, and the bands around the arms and legs vaguely resemble ilizarov fixators. The transparent rubber tubes are also more effective than metal pipes to this end, it's all much more medical than robotic.

      From my limited experience of state sponsored torture and murder, I thought they just put a bag on your head when they put you on the electric chair. I like the Cybermasters' design as well. Because you realize that they are different just from the appearance. The handlebar heads are replaced with a design that resembled the collar of a Timelord's robe. And the Gallifreyan text is a nice touch. But the gold, I would argue, resembles just how highly timelords think of themselves.

    • @radioactivecheesenowinnucl4746
      @radioactivecheesenowinnucl4746 4 года назад +2

      Declan Rickerby I think that’s a production error, given that the Cybus Cybermen have blue chests for a single shot in the entire episode, and that said shot was featured in The Doctor Falls’ Next Time trailer without the blue chest lights. Though I think it’s pretty cool, and there are Cybus Cybermen with blue chest lights in the comic Supremacy of the Cybermen.

      @@radioactivecheesenowinnucl4746 True it could be a production error but since it did make the episode be it for 1 scene i think it could still count as a version :) it could just be a model thats between upgrading from cybus style to the cyberiad design

      Declan Rickerby I’m still a fan of the design despite how out of place it is in The Doctor Falls. Also, your last line makes me think of the Cybermen from the Ninth Doctor comic The Bidding War, who quite curiously resemble a fusion between the Cybus and Cyberiad Cybermen (they’re quite slim but with blocky shoulders, some fine detailing like the Cyberiad ones, but strangely have the Cybus Industries logo slapped on their chests).

    I loved the Cybus Cybermen I thought they were so creepy as a kid. They didn’t use guns which made them scarier imo. They’re basically metal zombies which follow you around and if you get caught you basically die horribly to an electric shock. I kinda liked the stomping around. The fact they didn’t run but were relentless in catching you was just so creepy to me. Also they looked completely dead inside. One of my favourite all time scenes from the cybermen was when the doctor was traveling through the long and narrow tunnel which a bunch of deactivated cybermen lurked. When they slowly started to awaken holy shit that was creepy. Though I didn’t really like the whole cyber network thing that mind controlled everyone and the fact the cybermen were “invented” by a businessman. I feel like they could have done a lot more with that story. To me a cyberman is a metal zombie which was once a human.

    19:30 I’m inclined to think we weren’t actually meant to notice this, more likely they just slapped the recognizable Cybus head they modeled for the cold opening shot onto the CGI doubles used for other SFX shots like the army scenes, because that’s what they had lying around and they thought no one would pay that close attention. I think the Cyber-war cybermen are meant to be the normal Cybus ones like the ones who flank Ashad.

I think series 13 would be great if he was the arc of it... we start off with him in human form, and then mid way through after a filler and another epic story, he gets converted, and we get a two part finale of a Cyberman war, maybe with the Daleks... then his mask get half blown off and he escapes, and then when he escapes.. that’s where he phases into the episode where he first appeared

    Why do you hate the Cybermen in formations? One of the central ideas behind the Cybermen is conformity: the idea that to "upgrade" the humans, they strip away all emotion, weakness, but most importantly individuality and everything that made them unique as a normal person. They're supposed to be more efficient because they don't waste time with emotion or morality, which is something that really makes people unique. They are supposed to be militarized to convert and 'delete' all other life forms, so it makes sense for them to march in formation and be equipped with blasters. Not to mention in my opinion that makes them much more intimidating. An army of metal men marching at you in a calculated conformed matter would at least be scary to me. Also for the warrior Cybermen they are literally called warriors so it makes that they would act like a military unit. I think I get what you mean, and I can sorta understand the complaint, I just think in context of the episodes where they match in formation that it makes sense for them to. Idk tho.
