Doctor Who is a British science-fiction television programme broadcast by the BBC since 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called the Doctor, an extraterrestrial being who appears to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. The TARDIS exterior appears as a blue British police box, which was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired. With various companions, the Doctor combats foes, works to save civilisations, and helps people in need.
Beginning with William Hartnell, thirteen actors have headlined the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation, a plot device in which a Time Lord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally.
A series of special episodes of the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who will air to celebrate the programme's 60th anniversary. The episodes were written by Russell T Davies, and will be broadcast on BBC One in November 2023, preceding the following fourteenth series. David Tennant will appear as the Fourteenth Doctor before Ncuti Gatwa takes over as the Fifteenth Doctor. Catherine Tate was also confirmed to be returning to the show in the 2023 specials.
The three specials were directed by Rachel Talalay, Tom Kingsley and Chanya Button respectively. Filming moved from Roath Lock Studios to Wolf Studios once Bad Wolf became a co-producer of the series; filming commenced in May 2022, and was complete
David Tennant will appear as the Fourteenth Doctor before Ncuti Gatwa takes over as the Fifteenth Doctor. Catherine Tate was also confirmed to be returning to the show in the 2023 specials. Yasmin Finney joined the cast for the anniversary, to portray a character named Rose. Bernard Cribbins, Jacqueline King and Karl Collins are also set to return as Wilfred Mott, Sylvia Noble and Shaun Temple, respectively.
On 29 July 2021, the BBC announced that Chris Chibnall, who served as executive producer and showrunner of the series for the Thirteenth Doctor, would depart the series after a run of specials in 2022. In the BBC press release, Chibnall is quoted as saying: "I wish our successors - whoever the BBC and BBC Studios choose - as much fun as we've had. They're in for a treat!" The future of the programme was first teased by Piers Wenger on 25 August 2021, when he said an upcoming change for Doctor Who would be "radical".
On 24 September 2021, the BBC announced Russell T Davies would return to Doctor Who as showrunner, after having previously acted as showrunner from 2005-2010 for the Ninth and Tenth Doctors. He will succeed Chibnall for the show's 60th anniversary in 2023 and beyond. Davies will be joined by the Bad Wolf production company, which was founded by former Doctor Who executive producer Julie Gardner and former BBC head of drama Jane Tranter. In October 2021, it was announced that Sony would acquire a majority of Bad Wolf. Bad Wolf also took over creative control of Doctor Who beginning with the specials, allowing the BBC to focus on establishing Doctor Who as a global brand.
Phil Collinson returned to the show as producer, having previously produced episodes from 2005-2008. Davies confirmed by March 2022 that production had begun at Bad Wolf Studios in Cardiff. William Oswald is also editing for the new series.
On 13 June 2022, Davies announced that Neil Patrick Harris would be joining the cast, playing an undisclosed role.
The Fourteenth Doctor is the current incarnation of the Doctor, the fictional protagonist of the BBC science fiction television programme, Doctor Who. The Fourteenth Doctor is portrayed by Scottish actor, David Tennant, who previously portrayed the Tenth Doctor.
Within the series narrative, the Doctor is a millennia-old, alien Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, with somewhat unknown origins, who travels in time and space in their TARDIS, frequently with companions. At the end of life, the Doctor regenerates; as a result, the physical appearance and personality of the Doctor changes.
Ncuti Gatwa had previously been announced as Jodie Whittaker's successor as the programme's lead, and many reports stated he would play the Fourteenth Doctor and that Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor would regenerate into an incarnation portrayed by Gatwa. Upon Jodie Whittaker's final appearance as the character, she instead regenerated into a form similar to the Tenth Doctor. This character, portrayed by Tennant, was confirmed to be the Fourteenth Doctor, with later clarification that Ncuti Gatwa would actually portray the Fifteenth Doctor

What I miss from the Mondasian Cybermen is the lack of a mouth. The mouth is under the cloth mask, not distinguished in any way, and when the actor under the mask gaped his mouth open, not opening and closing as the creature spoke, we just see the cloth move to show the open, gaping mouth. Like the mouth was just a speaker for an artificial voice box.
That absolutely terrified me as a small boy, and I remember the feeling of seeing it for the first time to this day

If we get a new design for RTD2, we need to lean more into the horror aspect. Go back towards the Mondasian style with a modern update. Like we saw in WEaT

I still really want to see Cybermen pull from zombies as inspiration - not necessarily the hunger for brains or anything, but the slow, undeterred resilience even in the face of their own body almost falling apart. I want to see a Cyberman get blasted and fall down - small pause for celebration - only for the Cyberman to get back up, still determined to convert people into Cybermen in spite of their compromised body.
They're primarily built to survive, so I'm surprised we've yet to see one in a mangled state but still alive, still determined to make others like it.
Neil Gaiman's Nightmare in Silver had the potential to show Cybermen like this, but unfortunately the Cybermen just upgraded past any obstacles they encountered, which just felt kinda bullshitty given that they were physical obstacles, not a complex and elaborate plan or some form of trickery. They got electrocuted by a moat and blasted by a big laser gun, yet somehow upgraded past it without any extra materials or development. It just felt cheap.

I just love how you can still identify the Cybermen as human in their 10th Planet or Colony Ship design. Keeping the mouth open to talk or being able to see the eyes partially is wonderfully upsetting and creepy.

I really hate that glowing chest thing on the Nightmare ones. And not because "Oh, it looks like Iron-Man".
It just feels off. Like the chest area is where they should have like an artificial lung, and a heart respiration, and then you had this big like cylinder taking up space. Is it an energy source? If it is, why is it visible? That feels like a design flaw. And why is it glowing?
That would be so uncomfortable to wear, you have this thing on your chests that's glowing the whole time, and probably producing heat.
It also just makes them feel more like robots. Like that thing turns off when they die. But that makes no sense, the human inside is the power source, and the onboard computer and all of that stuff, but this thing indicating when they're alive, or dead or asleep kinda makes it seem like the armor is the cyberman, and not the human inside.

Many years ago, I had an idea for a Cyberman, but with a twist in that similar to the Ice Warriors in Curse of Paladon, Set on an unknown artificial planet in the middle of a seemingly empty and long ago destroyed region of space where nothing is supposed to exist, these Cybermen are not antagonistic,c but The Doctor thinks they're the enemy and the Cybermen until he finds out that they're for once non-hostile and that there's an even greater threat that's causing the mysterious disappearances that are affecting both the stranded human colony the Cybermen, are protecting/studying. The Cybermen themselves, the Doctor, then have to join forces with these renegade Cybermen against an extra=dimentional invasion from an ancient and powerful race from the Dark Times who are returning, the Primal Chaos Lords (aka the original Titans). The Cybermen in this idea was split into two types. One version, which was the main warrior Cybermen resembled the Tomb Cybermen and the Mondassian-looking scientist Cybermen. There was also a third unique cyberman idea called the Cyber-Brain, which had the body of a mondassian Cyberman but with the Invasion-style chest unit, and its head resembled a cross between the Tomb Cybercontriller and a Raston Warrior Robor, except it had flashing lights within it's blank 'face' and it was hooked up to several Cyber-Coorindator machines.

Believe it or not, Whovians around the world back in 1996 actually wanted the late Alan Rickman (Professor Snape, Harry Potter) to play the Doctor with Courtney Cox as his companion Charlotte for a Doctor Who movie called Genesis of the Cybermen but sadly that amazing and wonderful movie was never made. WBD is also planning on reboot the Harry Potter movie franchise this new year 2023 for HBO Max, soon to be called Plus when WBD merges it with Discovery Plus and it would be wonderful or amazing if WBD produced The NeverEnding Story reboot some time this year or next in 2024 🤞🤔...

Perhaps a more chilling route to go with the CyberMasters' basic concept would be to reference one of 12's lines from World Enough And Time, where he says that cybermen are a phenomenon which repeatedly occur over and over across the universe.
Consider that by Series 9 the Time Lords had safely parked themselves at the end of time away from all other threats. What happens when the universe itself starts to fail and die, long after even the Toclafane have vanished? They could go back to the past, but that would more than likely start another Time War. They could leave for other parts as Division did, but, seeing as Division hasn't been associated with Gallifrey directly since the universe was young, they may lack the ability to. At the very end, Me's reality bubble began to collapse, and that would likely happen far sooner at a planetary scale.
what's the best option for them in this situation? To get an upgrade, to transform themselves into mechanical, infinitely regenerating horrors to survive. From there, some nutcase like Rassilon could go back in time to try to spread this "perfection" to everyone else before it's too late. The Time Lords spread a genetic virus to cause other species to evolve in their own image, so it's not out of character, and there could also be another dimension added to it, in that they're coming back from the end of everything as prophets with a warning, revealing that their modifications, though horrific, will prove to be the only way to stay alive in the end. As the last sparks of life in a cold, dead universe, their desire to convert others might stem from, or even be superseded by, a fundamental need to continue doing the one thing they've done since the very beginning.
    Survive.

My theory: The original teardrop and mouthdrop was used to mount the silver rings around the mouths and eyes of the Cybermen in Moonbase and Tomb. But in Wheel, they didn't have those, but they used the same head mould, leaving the mounting holes visible.

In terms of the New Series Cybermen, it's a tie between the Cybus and Warrior designs. I would rank the Warrior ones above the Cybus ones as I love the modern design of the Invasion Cybermen, but the issue is that they lack the talking light mouth from the Cybus and even the 2013 designs. And before you say that there's other Cybermen that don't have a moving mouth, I know that But it's a feature I'm used to with these metal men, plus it's easier to know which one is talking. Even then, the Cybus ones are nostalgia to me as they were the ones that got me into the Cybermen in the first place.

Yeah the wooden design, based on the nightmare in silver, it's just too complicated. It makes me think of the suitcase iron man armor, or mark 5. It's too detailed and not unique, especially for the wooden armor you'd think the design would be simpler, but no. Also from the point onwards that they had arm guns. Why not both arms? It's essentially a robot, you could pack the entire thing full of weaponry, why wouldn't you? Same problem with the Daleks. Helmet gun? That's cool. Why not have that too? The Cybus is perfection:)

Great video. I used to love the look of the Cybermen from Silver Nemesis but agree they've aged badly. I feel the Cyber Controller from Attack Of The Cybermen would have been better if they didn't resort to Michael Kilgariff reprising his role after 18 years where is it clear he wasn't a slender as he was in the 60's (nothing personal Mr. Kilgariff). Another actor could've easily passed it off but I also feel the Controller lacks the menace of the one from Tomb Of The Cybermen. I love the Earthshock Cybermen and David Banks performance certainly elevated things.

They somehow managed to make the Nightmare in Silver costumes look far better by comparison. What’s up with the weird pointy pattern on the stomach? It looks so plain and incredibly cheap.
