I think there's three possibilities: 1. Different Cybermen are a result of parallel evolution. 2. They are the same race, they just adapt their armour to the environment and situation. 3. Cybermen are products of Mondas. They're meant to be the same, they just look different on camera. Any or all could be true, it's a big universe.
This is what I love about the Classic Who fan community, writers and fans (and writers who are fans) piecing together extensive lore based on fragments from stories that were never intended to have a long continuity. It's challenging, but that's the fun of it 🙂 Also wanna say that you were the guy who made me aware of the ArcHive Tapes a while back, thanks :D
I guess I'm in the minority but I still think the cloth-faced versions are the most original and unnerving. Their way of speaking by simply holding their mouths open makes it appear that their vocal cords are being manipulated and what's left of the person inside has no way to stop it. The machine using the body as a tool. Frightening and original, made all too real with Bill Potts.
They were 'my' Cybermen, in the same way everyone has 'my' Doctor. As a 7 year old I was terrified by the cloth-faced Cybermen with human hands. They were still part human. Now they are just robots
Yes, there is certainly something about the cloth faced versions that is highly sinister. Check out the Big Finish audio drama “Spare Parts” it deals with the genesis of the Cybermen and features this version of them.
Well, you just made an Ebay seller happy! While I prefer the multi-origin theory - as it makes them wholly different from the Daleks - , I love all the behind the scenes stuff on the Cybermen.
Congrats on getting ahold of that book! It does not appear to have helped keeping your sanity when working out which Cybermen came when, but at least you've got a reference! :D
If only it were possible to reissue this book with an update. I mean, Skilleter is still doing stuff and I get the feeling that with added bits of lore from Silver Nemesis onwards (including all parallel universe stuff) it might be fun!
Always look forward to the next video from the best chimp on RUclips. I had no idea just how complex the Cyber Timeline was, but you've done an amazing job of ironing it out
Well this video came out of nowhere and what a mindphuck it has been! You look mentally drained near the end I noticed. I do also think think by the end of Silver Nemesis that the Cybermen as a whole were kaput except for a tiny few sub-species, if The Doctor hadn't travelled to Pete's World I don't think we would have had any new Cybermen stories, The CybusMen saved The Cybermen by merging with them.
I suppose you could throw in a touch of different manufacturers, in the same way that SAAB and Renault and BMW all make cars. AND different models of the same car. Plus a few specialist versions.
The problem I have with the convergent evolution explanation is that it's not how convergent evolution works. Yes, organisms will evolve to fill different niches, but not to the point where Cybus Cybermen and the Exodus ship Cybermen independently developed the same design, right down to minute details. A hyena and a dog look similar, but they are not identical. Furthermore, what are the odds of every human civilization independently coming up with the name 'cybermen' to call this new race of cyborgs? I also don't like the David Banks timeline, because it implies the OG Cybermen were and evolutionary dead end, gives all the credit for Cybermen's survival to this off-screen Cyber-Faction.

Glad to spread the word.😁🐵🤖
I love this devotion to the Cybermen. Your appreciation of them makes me wish I loved them the way I love Sontar and the Daleks.

Not a minority opinion at all. In fact most people say the same thing when it comes to the Cybermen.

I hope to get this book if I can
I hope this book can be rewritten and updated
Well, you just made an Ebay seller happy!

My copy arrived yesterday and it is glorious.

"Proto-Telosians"

Hold on, what happened to all those no-information sub-species? Does this mean there are a bunch of divergent Cybermen forces out there?
Delightful, forensic and so wonderfully fanboy. Brilliant stuff. Gx
Yes! I bought this book from a publishers clearance place in Bridlington as a kid, cemented my love of the cyber men. Now to listen to the audio!
I really like your videos, and they are awesome in millions and billions of ways keep up the good work and enjoy making more videos for youtube .

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I haven't even seen it yet, and you still made my day!
You are truly The Chosen-est Chimp! Thank you for explaining this complex timeline 🫡

Can’t wait to get more on mid cyber faction (wheelies)
Excellent! (in a David Banks voice).
I love how DW's lore is just a inifinite maze of rabbit holes about some details of the show.
Imbrahim Namin deserves his own 2 hour timeline video.
His fez is familiar
Woo Hoo, never been first for anything, Really looking forward to this.
My brother had the Cybermen book when it came out and I spent hours reading it…definitely one of the best Who books ever

Pleas can you do the same for The Daleks?
Thanks for asking. I do have some ideas for future Dalek videos.🐵😁
What music did you use cause the music in this video sounds good
The cybertapes was great I should really dig out the walkman and convert it to a non tape version sometime :)
....they got their servos on a timeship.
The very nature of the show makes it so hard to make sense of the correct chronological timeline order of pretty much everything in Dr Who.
Where do you get the book I want it know cyber men have always been my favourite dr who enemy
Timey wimey...
Silver Nemesis: Long story short... They lost 🤣
*Definitive Timeball
