Ukraine Is Converting Salvaged Russian Tank Machine Guns

- Ukraine is converting salvaged Russian PKT machine guns for ground use. There appears to be a car repair shop in Kyiv which is taking in captured and salvaged Russian tank machine guns and adapting them for ground use with an ad-hoc stock and pistol grip assembly. Fascinating ingenuity, but not without historical precedence.

Thanks for watching guys, here's the full article accompanying this video: armourersbench.com/2022/03/27/ukraine-is-converting-salvaged-russian-pkts/ - Matt
Make sure to practice social distancing to prevent Ukraine from falling to Covid….plandemic 🤣😂🧐
you should be ashamed of yourself.

The troops need 'tools' to do their job and it looks like these mechanics could use better tools (and safety glasses) to modify the guns into the 'tools' the troops can use. It would be interesting to know if since the story came out weapons manufacturers, armorers and machine tool companies are sending them machines, conversion kits or advice on modifying the guns.
safety squints are perfectly acceptable Sir.
I think I'd be more worried about airstrikes than safety glasses..
Too true!
This is modifying guns just like we do it in Albania and Kosovo modify and convert blank guns to real fire
God bless Ukraine 🇺🇦

They are using actual PK stocks though. And my question is: how comes they have so many extra?
I have noted the men stripping the PKTs from the armoured vehicles. Now the question is answered, ingenuity and adaption to make these things useful!
Exactly, thanks for watching!
those converted lewis guns are awesome
I love seeing the community just coming together and helping, Jerry rigging things to add to their usefulness, etc. It's freaking inspiring.
Very interesting video. I am amazed at these creative ideas of theirs.
Thanks for watching!
And how do you like our Neptune system? In Russia, they laughed at us when we showed it to the world, well .. "Moscow" appreciated, spongebob too)
Well done. First thermal optic I've seen so far. Outside of SF on both sides haven't seen too many optics mounted.
somebody please tell that man to wear some eye protection. You can see bits of hot metal flying into his face.
An American soldier did this ww2 when he put a stock and handgrip and trigger system on machine guns salvaged from downed aircraft, i think it was called the stinger.
And the plane may have been the Dauntless, rear facing gunner position.
How do you tell your customer that their car's service is delayed because you're working on machine guns.
ha!
Awesome .. You may defeat an army , but with the civilian population helping the Military , you are in trouble .. " Ukraine for the win ",..
I saw machine guns fitted with bicycle hand breaks. Forgot where I saw it though.
Now that's intriguing!
That would be early prototypes of a infantry based DSHKs from 2014
Which ended up becoming a mainstay. As it is now a two man portable heavy MG
Reminds me of the "stinger" adaption during WW 2. Aircraft MG fitted with a rifle buttstock.
Nothing new already seen the same modification during some Caucasus war
I've seen two Ukrainian videos of them in the field set up at fortifications
Tony, do you have a link, would love to see that!
This is excellent work.
Thanks mate, enjoy your reports/work.
Fancy seeing you here 😮
Not exactly being met with flowers and kisses.
I pray for the people of Ukraine. They do not deserve the suffering they are enduring.
Our fighters use these machine guns with tripods on outlander cars. A lot of updated cars took part in liberating north of the Kyiv region. Maneuvering partisan war
Fascinating thank you. I've been waiting to see them in the field.
Good old Ukrainian ingenuity. May the Gods bless the Ukraine 🇺🇦
Same tgink happened in libya war 2011
But i think pkts much heavier than pkms which make it hard to move with it
There's a little bit of Ork in everyone it seems.
Necessity is the mother of invention - Plato
The Herat prison had a converted PKT that used parts from a bicycle frame to form the stock. I shot it myself and it ran like a r*ped ape
Kind of reminds me of a 240's pistol grip
Up against Russia, needs a bigger shed
pretty late but I do have a photo of Ukrainian soldier with a modified PKT
Would love to see it, drop me an email armourersbench@gmail.com. Thanks for watching!
wondering how well that pic rail holds zero. would love to see that thing on a range
You should REALLY SEE the ingenuity of the Croatian defenders in 1991. Croatian Homeland War when Balkanian mini-Russians aka "Greater"Serbians attacked Croatia, making the situation the same or worse than Russians in Ukraine with their endless supply of ammo and ordnance, let alone non-existing moral codex! YOu can see that on the site of the Croatian Police,in the Homeland War Museums and numerous home collections and even a business that derived from that creating copy of the Uzi and numerous similar firearms that is better than the Original in one region particularly! LOL
I've seen some photos! Some true ingenuity.
I love reports like this one!
One of your captions mentioned a "specialisd mechanic" , a better name for this is a "fitter". My trade in the Australian Army was fitter/armourer. Fitters can make things with an accuracy of 0 to 0.001" using hand tools.
Pity I don';t live closer, I could go and help.
Those PK’s are nasty had many run ins with them in Afghanistan and there very effective from range . If we were lucky enough to find there spots and call in and get air they didn’t work great but without our support there super dangerous
A very capable weapon. Never been on the same receiving but definitely a very effective medium machine gun. Thank you for watching.
mounting a rear sight using a old M1917 Eddystone or Type 77 Arisaka would work well for adjusting for elevation and distance, a simple M-60 style front sight fixture for the barrel would work well, even a old M1 Garand or M1 Carbine rear sights that is adjustable for windage & elevation would work well too.
Does anyone know what it takes to convert a coaxial FN MAG/M240 or an MG3 to ground operation? As good as this work undoubtedly is, I wonder if it would be necessary for the Western equivalents? From the photographs I have seen of coaxially mounted MAGs and MG3s, it doesn't like much work would be needed.
Ideally, you'd be able to take a coaxially-mounted GPMG out of the vehicle, and swap a few components without having to use tools (other than a cartridge or something else to act as a punch) to make a ground gun.
Ukrainians are brave and innovative .. Bravo Ukraine
Pumped at least 8 year before from the us...bravo...really bravo ;)
... Hence the recent Russian Garage bombing 🙃 (But the Marxist BBC , conveniently miss that out!)!.
""Fascination and ingenuity"" those weapons with aiming systems as it is seen that they were adapted in the hands of a shooter who knows how to handle them are tremendous, devastating and with a longer barrel for better precision and range, digital or regular scopes or better night vision for those guns that's nice!!!
if adapted to ground use, why not saw the barrel off to make it more lighter and compact? that gun is longer than most sniper rifles.
That scope is fuc'ed
since the russians targeted volunteers from their social media postings, for a rocket attack, now I'm worried about this car shop.....
I'd like to see the bigger stuff above .50bmg, that's what you need oftentimes even tank turrets/guns
This shop was on Franch24 a couple of weeks ago.

Good to see a more in depth video on this. Thanks.
Thanks Steve, thanks for watching!
most interesting and rivetting in ingenuity - thank you kindly 👊
Thanks for watching!
The PK and PKT were, of course, in service with the AFU from its inception in 1992, and had served for many years with the Soviet Armed Forces in the Kiev, Odessa, and Carpathian Military Districts.
Indeed! Thanks for watching.
Makes me think of the Stinger from WW2.
Definite vibes.
Why do they have to do this? Don't they get supplies of weapons from the west that makes this unnecessary?
Still, A+ for ingenuity! From that perspective, that is awesome!
In war every weapon counts.
pkm dragunov rpg7......
Good job on the conversions !
Stay strong, Ukraine pray for you
you mean 18 countries of NA To ? ^^
They've already lost you Nimrod keep taking those clot shot and boosters sheepleton !🤡
@janines4314 how are these people so stupid Janine!
These things are gonna show up on Forgotten Weapons in 6 or 7 years on Ian’s trip to Ukraine
There is some new ones, like preview.
He already did a video about the work. Doing a test firing will be interesting.
Fascinating as always, thanks mate.
Thank you!
Could just actuate the solenoid with a lithium battery or something similar. Bit cumbersome to lug around as a personal weapon, but ingenious nonetheles.
LET'S GO BRANDON
It looks great
DIY went out of control 😁
Car and gun repair shop now.
On the bigger and heavier machine guns, I would put dual handles on it, with a thumb push button > Gives you some thing to hang on to, in a moving vehicle 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥yes hand grips are better on light machine guns
We have a person in Iraq who is professional in converting and repairing weapons. He professionally transformed a PKT weapon into a weapon completely identical to the PK.
Brings back my much younger days working on my machines (known to most as firearms). A joy understanding the internal workings of my various machines. Working at 2 Nuc plants helped. Lots of time to play thanks to the DOE.
Many, MANY congrates from me to yall, the brave countries craftsmen (and women). To use your educated and trained talents and make free your country. Confiscate any and all. Repair and send back 1000's of 12.7 and 762 rounds back to Vlad. You Mechanic's, machinist's, welders, sheet metal, engineers, inspectors, all my brothers and sisters who heat treat and know metal. That scrape of metal on the road can be made a gift back to VLAD. God is with you in MARIUPOLE.
Peace from Texas
Not bad^^....1 year later, what do you think now? ;)
@@janines4314he's a dummy and he believes Ukraine is winning😂
👍 from 🇺🇸👍
I actually saw one being used in the field mounted on a tripod in a trench
Excellent! Yet to see one myself.
I dearly love USA made Military Guns
Happily they were successful in defending Kyiv. Forward to complete victory Ukraine!
if it can't be done as it has to be done then so be it if it can
Amazing video
Thanks for watching!
that looks heavy
It does doesn't it.
Very interesting and informative video. Thank you.
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Thank you for this very detailed analysis. It deeply helps. The efforts by these guys in converting all the weapons captured is just absolutely brilliant. I’d imagine the reason why we haven’t seen too many of them on the front lines is just because the country is so big, that once they get out there fighting it is very unlikely to see them again. Wish these guys the best of luck and keep up the good luck. Slava Ukraine
Thanks Daniel. Yes exactly, everything we're seeing is just a tiny fraction of what is going on. Thanks for watching.
Der Einsatz von Panzer-MG für den Erdkampf ist ein alter Hut und keine herausragende Ingenieursleistung.
Which is something I discus in the video. Danke for watching.
heard the factory was destroyed thanks to the footage released
No that was the tank workshop, not this small private garage.
I’ll take 2 !
Excellent
👍
Great job 🙂😎👍

I thought (MOST) of
the Countries Supporting the Ukraine Fighters were sending arms and munitions?
Many have but the attritional rate of any war on this scale is going to be significant. Additionally, we really don't know what sort of scale this work is going on at - could just be this one workshop putting them together locally for the local TDF battalions. Yet to see other workshops doing similar (but that equally doesn't mean it isn't happening). Just an interesting aspect of the Ukrainian war effort. Thanks for watchin!
President Biden announced that the U.S. was sending 20 million rounds of ammunition, which comes out to an average of 66 rounds for the aproxamently 300,000 Ukrainian soldiers, reservists, militiamen etc.
you also help Hitler too, you now helping the unfinished descendants of the Organization of Ukrainian Nazis and UPA, one day with your help you will achieve a nuclear war, if your leaders do not understand this, then they do not care about you and we will all burn in a nuclear frenzy.
Resistance is key we cannot allow others to displace us and I love seeing this
