Wow. I can’t thank you enough for finding and posting this. No words for the impact the Grandmaster has had on our world. Beautiful to see him in motion.
Thanks for this video. Despite all the controversy and arguments about Wing Chun, watching this man quietly and flawlessly perform this form compels all practitioners to a common higher standard.
@@dominicalberto2179now I'm no wing Chun master, I only trainer for about half a year. But from what I learned I can agree that I don't think wing Chun is good in a real fight, atleast not any modern fights. Maybe I a martial arts strict rules scenerio.. I think that if it's the only thing you learn it's not going to be the best, or very good at all. But I think if you train in it for a few years and apply the techniques to other martial arts or fighting styles it does have many benefits
God bless Yip Kai-Man (Ip Man), 1983-1971. Hi son Ip Chun He was born June 10, 1924, Ip Chun is 97 now, one year older than my grandfather (a World War 2 Veteran too) was born March 27, 1925. I like the story of his father Ip Man. Feeding a man in his home, the Japanese invaded and took his home loosing all material possessions (homeless) he remained happy and still loved his son and his wife, later defeating a Japanese General to unite Chinese together. Later then opening a School in Hong Kong city, not just for himself but for others, sacrificing his time to help others, and doing it for others, because his kindness believed in giving others a chance to learn. His father was a kind man that believed in humanity and individual has worth from within. Now Ip Chun continues the Wing Chun Kuen legacy going and keeping the tradition alive. This is so special and all worth the while.
I done wing chun and learned this first form his movements and the presision is flawless for his age and health it's baffling how perfect this is he is the legend would love to have learned from IP man so much lost to time
Makes him still alive especially if you train hard It's sad there's so much rivalry between brothers of wing Chun our forefathers would be ashamed and especially GM Yip Man. Peace to all brothers of kung fu
Lol ip man himself changed it. Ip man wing chun was an abomination when the grandmaster first developed it, to the traditional folk. Martial arts are alive my friend. Carry the spirit of the ancestors while evolving into something new. Amituofo!
People need Wing Chun to remain true in its form to preserve the history but Martial Arts are alive. It is an art because it is always changing. You can reach a certain level of mastery but never will you truly master Wing Chun. For example, Yip Man's Bong Sau, which is the action seen at 2:29 in the video, is really high for that action. But you must remember that Yip Man was a small person, only 5'4" (162.5 cm) which is rather short so he compensated his height, or lack thereof, by having that action cover up higher. He changed it to fit his body style as well as the way when I practice Wing Chun, I have to make certain adjustments for my body type, being bigger at 6'2" (188 cm).
I miss my friend Kenan , who showed me Wing Chun...before I had low confidence, and I felt good and empowered by his one on one training...I went to a Wing Chun class they showed me forms, etc with little one on one training that made me feel bad ....so please take my advise, when a student quits, in many cases, you failed him.....the spirit of martial arts is love of what your doing , nothing else 💝💝😍
If a student quits then the school was not right for them and they need to look for another teacher. It is not the teacher's job for the student to be willing to learn. It is the teacher's job to teach forms. Your "advise" is one of powerlessness and lack of self-control, the complete opposite of wing chun means to many.
Thank you for making this important video available. I only wish I could slow it down, especially in the third section of Siu Nim Tao, so I can more clearly see the subtle movements of his hands when he goes from fist to tan sao. His hand does not seem to travel straight up...it seems to first travel slightly across his abdomen and chest toward center and THEN forward and up into tan sao.
You should know that Ip Man was not Bruce Lee's main kung fu teacher. Ip man was Bruce's high school level teacher. Bruce moved to Seattle to live with master Fook Yueng, who was his uncle, and to go to the University of Washington. Mr. Yueng was Bruce's teacher and mentor for a total of eight years. He encourage Bruce to go see some other teachers in order to widen his experience. He also told Bruce to not tell anyone who taught him because he taught him as a relative and did not want people bothering him for lessons or challenging him to fights. If you would like to read more about Mr. Yueng, who was a most powerful qigong master, his connection with Bruce, and his teachings, you can learn those things if you read the book "A Lineage of Dragons" available on Amazon.
I'm stunned that this doesn't have more like 135M views as opposed to 135K Views... This is Yip Man, Sifu of the greatest martial artist that ever was, or ever will be, Bruce Lee

Que en paz descanse, cuanto de tu humildad tienen que aprender los que hoy se dicen llamar Gran Maestro y lo cuál vos estuviste en desacuerdo.

Does anyone know or ever shown what applications come from the second last moves before the punches. the low thrusting spear hands. What is this for???
It's in order to ''swipe'' off someone who's grabbed your arm. You push down their grasp with one arm, while simultaneously pulling up the arm that is being grabbed.
Thanks for the reply, but it doesn't seem realistic, I had a big guy hold my arm and you can't break his strong grip, plus both your hands are in the lower gate, so your are Open at the top. It works with tan and bong, because the thumb is weak. the application for this move is lost forever I think. Cheers, good practice.
Well as with most of the wing chun system, it isn´t a ´´one move is a solution for all situations´´ kind of thing. I honestly tried it with ´´average-strong´´ people and it works. If someone is stronger than you, obviously other techniques would be more effective. (As you said tan sao[hit] or something similar would work.) Cheers todai!
It also can be a low block parry or a strike to defend against a kick or a grab you can alter your body placement by moveing your torso and bending your knees alil you dont have to stand faceing foward to your opponent. for instance a big guy grabs your right wrist and tries to control instantly use your left hand trap his hand to your wrist by grabbing his fingers and thumbs distract your opponent with foot sweep or a lil kick use the spear movement to force your opponent down to the ground or to slip his grip use his own momentum and his trapped hand against him then go from there possibilities are endless just think outside the box or don't think at all.
Just one of the greatest martial artists ever known and the one who made wing chun know to public and the master of ppl like wong shun leung, chu chong tin, william chung, leung ting and the legendary bruce lee ( yes bruce lee had a teacher and it was yip man and wong shun leung and some say latter on william chung)
The first two movements, where you cross the hands below and above, are not a technique or 'block', they are a measurement. You are measuring your perimiters. How many idiots have I seen trying to block a punch with crossed hands like that. Judo chop!
