Watching Ip Man 1-4 with everything that He's been through and accomplished is just awesome,so overwhelming. He and Bruce Lee are the best and no one haven't beat that till now. Donnie Yen made an amazing portrayal of him that no one else could.
The movies were full of fiction also; *IP MAN* never fought a 🇯🇵 general, never fought a 🇬🇧 boxer, never came to the 🇺🇸 He had 3 sons two from his wife *Cheung Wing-sing* along with two daughters and illegitimate son named *IP SIU-WAH* from his Shanghai mistress while separated from his spouse dying from cancer & he suffered from opium addiction as well.

In that footage of him just weeks before he died, you can see his still has some power behind some of those movements for an old guy.

Yeah. I notice his body is behind every shot. That's what I always look for first in folks...to see if they use their body. The fact that he is so aged and he is still doing it...just awesome.
As opposed to Japanese or more intense styles Gung fu takes years to fully master due to being developed in feudal times. When it's life or death you can't afford sprains etc so it's softly softly growing in intensity. That's why masters are usually old dudes

The footage showed that he is still fast and strong for a 79 year old man with cancer. I can only imagine how devastating and dangerous he was when we was still at his prime.

It was great story to end the the biography of the famous grandmaster of Wing Chun from this era, a martial arts made by woman which purposes as self defense.

The fact that he could still fight and physically punch the dummy even at his age and with cancer tells me how strong he was back then.
I’m not even kidding, I’m kinda scared of what this guy used to be.
Yip had strong tendon strength. He was quick enough to block Bruce punches & kicks. Yip had trained iron palm, iron fist. A life time of fighting experience. And a master of Pressure points from kunfu healing medicines.
Yip Man was exceptionally fast and strong for his stature... It was Bruce Lee's goal to become and even surpass master Yip Man... So this should give you an idea how good Yip Man was in his prime years...
Not only was he old and riddled with cancer, he was reportedly a drug addict.

The ending of Ip man 4 was amazing, perfect way of ending the story. When I found out later that there was real footage of Ip mans final training, it made it 10x better.
It is a blessing to have see all his move (defence and attack technique) in all the movies. Same time the movie all depicting his journey to becoming LEGEND we know nowadays. I am a fan.

His teachings through Sifu Sam Chan, raised by IP Chung and IP Ching, has gotten me out of my wheelchair and the use of both legs and my right arm back. I'm not falling down several times a day. 2:20 I love this picture of William Cheung and Bruce Lee when they were kids. William Cheung was a childhood friend of Bruce Lee and helped convince Bruce’s dad to allow him to train in Wing Chun. Bruce’s dad was afraid that Bruce (who had a temper) would get scruffed up and not be able to act. Bruce was acting since he was an infant. But he was convinced that if Bruce learned Wing Chun (as William Cheung and Wong Shun Leung already had a successful fighting reputation), he would better protect himself and hopefully ease his temperament.
In “My Life with Wing Chun”, William Cheung shared letter correspondence between him and Bruce Lee when they were in their late teens and early 20s (Bruce in Seattle and William in Australia studying engineering).

Thanks for the video - nice to see some real footage of him, and especially nice to see the real footage of him as referenced in the recent movie. As someone else said in the comments, it would be wonderful to see footage of him in his prime, but I guess that's not possible.
I do wish though that people would pronounce his name properly. It is said so many times in the films that there really is no excuse. It should be pronounced 'Ihp Mahn' not 'Yip Mehn'.
I am glad I am not the only one who gets annoyed when people say Yip Mehn. It is IP Man pronounced Ihp Mahn, like you said. The movie about him does, in fact, make that very clear. 😊

Yip Man was in tune with his biological timing as well as the world's timing. Those whom are gifted with this have such a remarkable impact.
Having seen the films, I think he would have been pleased with Donnie Yen’s portrayal of him. I think the actor is a pretty decent chap and that comes through in his performance.
But he would’ve been displeased that the CCP were messing with his legacies, like saying he fled Foshan from the Japanese. No, he fled the ones making a movie about him...

E Spencer Unfortunately, most Wing Chun practitioners don’t honestly spar for some odd reason. This is one of the reasons why there are very few high level Wing Chun practitioners. The most important activity any martial artist can do is sparring. Otherwise, it’s all theory and no application.

@@younglone9 not true, KF San Soo, is the original and most deadly Kung Fu. The myth portrayed in movies of Yip Man is actually KFSS founders master Jimmy H. Woo uncle. Who was involved in 34 death matches with the Japanese best Judo masters. Killing the last one in 11 seconds, then sat in meditation and was gunned down along with the rest of the shaolin monks in the temple. Yip never faught the Japanese.
