- This is an oil change in my 2014 VW Jetta. This is for a 2011-2018, 2.0L naturally aspirated engine. I used 3.8 quarts of 5-W30 oil and a K&N oil filter (HP-2005). If you have any questions, please ask in the comments below.

You make this oil change oil so easy! Great instruction! Thank you so much!!!
You’re welcome
I love this video. I just saw it come up, and had to watch it again. 😁❤️👍
Thank you!
Great job! Definitely important maintenance necessity!!
That’s for sure
Bro those oil catch jugs are amazing!!
I know right 😂 super convenient
like it when the filter is in an easy spot
Oh for sure!!! Some cars are so ridiculous to get too
Thanks man now I can change the oil on my new to me car
No problem. I’m glad I can help!
Napa gold filters have an orange ring around the end so that oil doesn't spill out all over the bottom of the engine bay 👍
Oh nice. I might check that out for next time. Thank you!
I had to use a T50 for the drain plug. It’s a good thing I decided to grab a set instead pf just using what most videos here use (T45).
Oh interesting. I’m glad you were able to get it to work
Great release 👍
Thank you!
Thanks for the great video. where did you get the black drain plug from?
No problem at all. I have an Amazon link in the description for all the tools and supplies i used including the drain plug
Great Job bud
Thank you
👍 good job bro
Thank you
Love your vids, plan on doing a brake change video? Pads and rotors?
I’m glad! I actually no longer have the car unfortunately and never got a chance to do a video on that
Will miss seeing that Jeep in the garage! :(
It already feels weird
Dude can you make a video of how to drain’ a rusty brown Coolant!.
Oh my. Possibly lol
the lower rad hose is directly under the air filter, you can reach underneath with some pliers and pull the clamp off and then pull the hose. if its rusty make sure you flush until its clear.
can you do one servicing the transmission ?
I can look into doing that
Thx!
No problem. I’m glad I could help
I must’ve missed where you noted the wrench size for the original drain plug…
I guess I never mentioned it in the video. It was a larger Allen wrench
19mm, at least fir a 2013
Where did you order that catch pan from? That's really nice man
It was actually from Auto Zone 😂
@@MTParadise thanks bro
@@marcusm1766 no problem
Is the oil filter hand tight?
What size is the drain plug?
Yes the oil filter is hand tight.
I’m not sure on the size of the drain plug
It's been a year since this. How do you like the plug still? Have you reused it and it's washer?
It’s actually been pretty reliable. I sold the car to a friend but he actually mentioned how he liked it way more than other drain plugs he’s used
@@MTParadise I think I'll order it and then wait for it. I went to do the change and I see the plug looks difficult. I read that it takes torx but it looks rounded out and maybe hex, but Idk what it's supposed to look like. I hope it comes out.
Still looking for a decent diagram of plastic parts on the underside and how they are supposed to go. A piece behind the bumper and wheel shield shattered off and idk what it was. A good diagram of the plastic covers would be a great help but I haven't found one.
@@pomdan3266 I’m sorry I can’t help you with the plastic panels
What size hex bit did you use ?
I don’t remember exactly but it was 25 or 30 if I remember right
How often should I change the oil filter?
Every time you change the oil. They are about $10 and I get K&N filters on amazon.
if you gotta use a mallet to loosen the oil drain bolt it’s being put on way too tight, 8 ft/lbs is the avg torque for that bolt
Yeah this was the first oil change I did after getting the car and I really didn’t expect that 😑 lol
What size is the drain plug bolt hex?
Nice, question bro I need to change the Purge Valve on my VW I got a EVAP code small leak and my engine is exactly like this one. where do I find the purge Valve on this type of engine?
I haven’t had to mess with it but tomorrow I can check to see exactly where it would be. I know what the part looks like so I can likely find it real quick
MT Paradise awesome man thank you so much I tried to even look to take the cover of the engine thinking it was there lol. Amateur move thank you so much man.
Neickers Cuevas no problem. Sometimes parts can be in the weirdest places
MT Paradise I've been looking for someone to do EVAP fix on this type of engine but it's like impossible to find
Neickers Cuevas I’ll see if I can find it lol
Hello! Do you have a link for a reliable car jack? :)
I actually don’t. Most of the ones on Amazon are mostly cheap made, unreliable ones. Walmart, Home Depot, and auto stores have decent ones though
If I were you, (yeah I know, I'm not you.) I would recheck the oil after the test drive because that filter takes a quart away from your reading plus you didn't fill it all the way to full. You may already be starting out without a full pan.
Also if you are going to do it right, Torque the drain plug.
Thank you for the input
How reliable is that engine brother? Im thinking about buying one of those with the 5 speed manual?
Well I had major engine problems at 106,000 miles and when I looked into it, that about average. I replaced it with a Lexus that’ll at least double that 😂
@@MTParadise Can you please tell more about the problem? What happened please. Thank you very much for the content
@@jan5818 it was something internal and I replaced everything on and around the engine and nothing worked. I sold it to a mechanic who said it was internal and he’s seen it before and knew how to pull out the engine and fully take it apart
Whats the firing order for the same type of engine and car?
I’m not sure
How do you feel about the car? I just bought one .. you feel it is ok even with the 115 horsepower
Well I’m used to 400hp+ cars so the 115 is a bit low for me but once on the highway it cruises along really well and I enjoy it
Lol it totally feels like a grandma car but like he says, once it's on the highway it moves along just fine. I got it in manual so I can at least have some control over the torque if I do want a bit of a faster acceleration. It's a decent daily for what it is and the prices were pretty good.
@@thelonestranger777 that’s exactly why I got one lol. Good deal and just a daily to rack up miles on
If you live in a high humidity area or next to the ocean vws fall apart faster than other cars.
Im lost mechanics where i went put 5qts of oil but u said 3.8? Idkkkk
I just added the amount the owners manual said for that engine size lol
It takes 5 quarts the owners manual has to be wrong being 3.8 was barely touching the stick before it filled the filter
Does it matter what oil brand it is ?
For an adverse car it’s not too big of a deal as long as the weight is the same. For a performance car I would stick to the recommended brand. Some brands also have to be changed out sooner that others.
What is the washer called!?
Crush washer or drain plug washer
How often do you change your oil?
Everything is rated at 10k miles but I usually do every 8k
My car went to such a good new home 😂
Yes it did 😊
Hey how did you get the car on jackstands?
When I had the Jetta, I had a cheaper, more narrow jack that I could raise it up with and put the jack stand right next to it
@@MTParadise Ah I see. Unfortunate trying to get mine but cant get it without paying for a expensive U-jack. Thx anyways
Oil filters are always installed hand tight (VW recommends 30nm/2 ft/lbs) never install an oil filter with a wrench, you'll ruin your filter and can cause the bypass valve to malfunction.
Thank you for the advice
I want to know more. How does it ruin the filter? I noticed the last oil change I performed on my car (mk6 2.0 NA) that the filter canister itself was nearly punctured and squeezed in by the generic oil filter wrench tool I always have used. I will have to try next time with hand power only
@@Haffmatthew if the outer casing gets damaged, it can restrict flow and cause the oil filter to go into bypass. Same thing if it gets deformed enough to damage the bypass. The bypass is there so that if your filter gets clogged, it will allow oil to bypass and so that you don't starve your engine of oil, but now you're no longer filtering debris and filth from your oil which can be extremely harmful to your engine
2013 Jetta diesel owner: I have always wondered what kind of oil the dealerships use. Anyone know?
I’m not sure lol. I just used what I was familiar with.
Always use european formula synthetic oil for VW
Next time buddy, undo the bolt on the oil pan first. Then take off the cap up top
I’ve always done it like this and it’s been good every time
What size bit god damn it
It only takes a sec to try a few different ones lol
You forgot to add how to reset the oil life light.
I never used that 😂🤦🏼♂️
At 8:13 of video. Did you really do that, are you hating on the person who has to remove it? Insane. -
I didn’t tighten it very tight. I just couldn’t get a good grip on it so I used the wrench to make it a little snug. The oil change I did later on after this, I took it off by hand with no problem
NOT ON THE 2015 OIL WASHER DON'T NEED TO REPLACE
They are suggested to be replaced and the are super cheap so 🤷🏼♂️😂
