Claudio you're a joy to behold! Your love for what you do is infectious, reminds me of all the reasons I love music and the joy it brings. Congratulations on whatever your big surprise is, look forward to hearing all about it!
I had one of these in the late 1980s. It’s definitely worth spending some time with the manual to learn how to record parameter animation. I ended up selling mine because my MIDI sequencer would cause it to crash.
dude....so sick. I have the DDD-5 and it is the king, second only to my MPC. The best thing about it is I got it for free and it worked, albeit with the buttons all painted over in glitter. Gives it character, right ?
Love the DDD-5. It is both more and less than the DDD-1. You loose the individual outs, you loose the silver paint (which is not a miss: amazing how it looks here, it is usually really beaten up), you loose 3 PCM ROM slots, you might loose sampling (some DDD-1's have that expansion), but you gain better looks, great built in patterns, a better selection of built-in samples and more built in samples (twice the ROM size), and the super fun theme expansions with both PCM data and patterns.
Haha, love how you burst into a groove seemlessly and then ask "what is this?" Btw - a very talented guy called Don Muro demonstrated a lot of Korg stuff back in the day. Here's him performing live with the DDD-1 in 1987. ruclips.net/video/YMGdiOFGXFs/видео.html
@@hihat2723 Yes, Don writes all his own music. It's a goldmine in fact. Check out "Unending Highway" if you get a chance as it's one of my favourite tracks by him. This was a version of his track "Whistler" and the original is here: ruclips.net/video/g2QU6VglT1Q/видео.html
Don Muro was on the Korg development team, and wrote lots of the included demos, like “Ms. Muro” in the Korg M1 (named after his wife). Awesome guy, too.
Claudio u get me going bro. You aren’t afraid to just put all your time and resources into music. What u do is amazing and under appreciated I wish more people would sub to your Chanel u deserve it man 👨
LMAO at Claudio' throwing the box in the air. It just reminded me when I thought I'd be clever trying out a new set of nun chukas in the living room. Bits of chandelier went everywhere with Mum screaming at me.. Ahh to be 17 again!
You had me bobbing my head with the impromptu Wham! jam. Great to see such a wonderful collection of instruments find their way into a real musician's studio, inspiring stuff!
As I'm japanese, I used to enjoy with this model in local instrument store when it's on sale. This model DDD1 and DDD5 came with super cool demo track made by KORG. That track was made using the maximum potential and capability of both models with sample sound and chop bass sound... However, I've never founded that demo track here in youtube. The problem was that the demo track was delietable for get free space in their inside memory. So the owners delieted that track.. I'l keep looking for it.
Maaaan i miss this machine. The folks who taught me how to maneuver around the studio had this triggering the akai s950. Dope combo. Then they gave me the drum machine. I made tons of magic on it with its 2 1 sec samplers. Lol
I still have mine. A very nice feature is that you can tweak some parameters like pitch or decay while the patterns are playing. I think you could even record it to the pattern, if I remember correctly. I used this a lot in the mid-1990's. There was also an option to get a sampling-board for it, but I never saw one in real life. And there is a matching sequencer SQD-1 - they look nice side-by-side.
The DDD-1 is so underrated. It is worth tracking down some of the ROM cards like the Bass Drum & Handclaps as the stock bass & clap sounds are a bit crap. The Latin ROMs are great too. I've got two, one with the DSB-1 sampling board (a bit like the Casio RZ-1) & I'm hoping to get the other circuitbent. One of the best sounding circuit bendable machines imho, along with the Roland TR-626.
I used to use the DDD1 samples I had on some discs that came with my Emu Emax I a lot. Urban myth had it that the discs were part of the collection owned by Boxcar.
If I ever come to London, I would really love to meet your studio and, maybe, take some birras with you. Keep the good work, Claudio. You are an inspiration to me.
hey there! im sure you have heard of Greg Phillinganes, but have you listened to his two albums? the last one is available on Spotify, which name is "Pulse". Very 80's, a lot of DX7 and reeeeallyy groovy, i truly recommend. and there's the first one, that wasn't even released digitally, 1981's "Significant Gains". VEEERYYY funky, amazing instrumentation, lots of rhodes! it's veeeery underrated, show it some love!! all of you. he is one of the greatest musicians in the history of synth music!
My initial thought from the video was that you were going to accidentally slice up the nice chesterfield sofa with the knife when you were rushing to get the box open! :) - great video. That old drum machine sounded amazing
The tuning of the cymbals/hi hat reminds of a sound I’ve heard in the music of a Super Nintendo game called X-caliber 2097. The game had music from Psykosonic.
By any chance did you get lucky and get it with the sampler board installed already? If so, you have really hit the jackpot!!! The board is installed through the back, behind that long panel with the 2 screws, F-6 and button 5 will let you know!
Its funny to think Claudio has a mega expensive TR-808, yet is having fun on this $100 Euro drum machine that is completely unloved, even by its Mother! To my ear, its similar sounding to the Roland TR505, 626, 707 and CR-1000 digital drum machines of the mid-80s.
I'll of course make the obligatory Alesis praise [and rightfully so💓], but I'd just like to point out how the DDD1 looks like the love child of a Casio Rz1 and a Korg Poly800😂 Alesis SR16💘
