    • Prince & Maceo Parker ...
Today on the channel, we are once again checking out the legend Prince playing "Pass The Peas", featuring Maceo Parker! When Prince took that bass and started ripping, I was reminded that this dude is not human! He can literally play so many instruments at such a high level, it's mind-blowing! Maceo Parker was a beast too and taught that saxophone a lesson! I absolutely loved this performance and I hope you enjoy! #reaction #musicreactions #prince #maceoparker #passthepeas #guitar #guitarist #guitarsolo #funk #saxophone #saxophonesolo

If I had known what was going down at a Prince show, I sure would've gone. I missed out, and seeing these vids of him in concert hurts a little bit. I only knew what was played on the radio or MTV. I can guarantee this shit was never played. He's so damn funky!!! Extremely talented in many areas. RIP Prince. Sorry my flowers are so late, but I now see you were truly a legend that deserved my attention. ✌❤And thanks to you, Steven, for keeping him alive.

The most memorable moment of Prince playing bass live was when I saw him in Vegas in 2007 and he was playing Girls & Boys, one of my favourites from the Parade album and I was admiring his dancers, The Twins... then I snapped out of it and thought wtf am I doing? My eyes should be on Prince as he was killing the bass!

Maceo is probably best known for playing with James Brown back in the day.

Yep. James Brown in the 60s. P-Funk in the 70s. A great versatile musician.

In front of about 50.000 people. Looks small when filmed up front. Bass player is Ida Nielsen.
btw Find the video where John explains how 777-9311 is the most complex beat he ever played.

Prince is a solid bass player for the same reason that he's an awesome lead guitarist - he first mastered how to be a great rhythm guitarist. That musical base is the key to deciphering his style and approach. (It's also why the magazines rarely rank him high as a guitarist - groove and melodic solos > mindless shredding, but that's a rant for another time...)

Prince is super great at the audience control. I've been some of his concerts and experienced that Purple Yoda energy. It makes your body move and makes you forget the shyness or whatever. You participate in his music, and his music completes. We all become ONE. Awesome experience. Thank you for a good reaction video!!

Maceo Parker was one of James brown's key musicians back in the day! He played that famous Sax solo in the song " I feel good" by James Brown. Prince honored people like maceo, Larry graham by including them in his band. They taught him a lot!

  • @SlimDaddy9

The Bass tune he started playing was from a song he wrote and/or produced for Morris Day and the Time, called 777-9311.
The next recognizable part I can pick out where he's playing half notes? is from America on his Around the World in A Day album. He has a live video for that song that just simply punches from the first second all the way until the last.

I've heard that Steve Winwood is a multi instrumentalist who switches instruments a lot during a concert, but I've never seen him live. As far as Prince being on bass, I don't know of anyone who was funkier than him. He did things on a bass that would just blow your mind.

This is a James Brown cover. Maceo was in James brown band. Bass player is Rhonda Smith. Prince’s bass solo is the song 777-9311 that he wrote for the band The Time.He also played some of the song America.

I am so excited that you reacted to this performance! It is one of my favorites since it really shows how proficient Prince was on bass. So funky! I think I remember Questlove saying (or maybe I read it?) that Prince’s best instrument was bass. I don’t know how anyone can choose a best since, as you mentioned, he was great at all of them.
Yes, it has been too long since you’ve done a Prince reaction (you knew I would say that 😂). When you pointed out how great he is at directing his band, this performance of Cream/Well Done/I Want U/In the Socket came to mind. He is basically arranging the songs with hand signals and verbal cues as they are performing it (telling the horns to “swell” at certain points, for example). I think you’d really love it. ruclips.net/video/Gnn7Q-Oa8pI/видео.htmlsi=K-YLqzKKTJeQdQ5h

I saw Prince in 2004 on the Musicology tour, talk about a fantastic performer! Maceo was one of the best sax players that Prince had, I did like Candy Dulfer though!

Prince could play like 20 some instruments. he was often known to show up at local jazz clubs after concerts ended just to continue his jam sessions. He was a true lover of live music and performance, in every aspect.

Several people mention Maceo playing with James Brown but my favourite pick of his work is with Parliament Funkadelic. I saw him fronting the JB's supporting the P Funk All Stars in the 90's. He has a fair number of albums to his credit as a band leader too.

I waited 20 years to be able to see him in concert. 2004 I saw him on the Musicology tour. It was awesome. I was so in awe that unfortunately I don’t remember a lot of it. I was able to see him again on the Welcome to America tour in 2011. I remember a little more of that concert. We had upper level seats but got moved down to the floor. Best two concerts I’ve ever been to.

I was blessed with the opportunity to see Prince live many times. The first time was in St. Louis in 1980 on the Dirty Mind tour. I traveled to many cities Chicago, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, and Miami to witness the greatness. However, my favorite show was in London England on the Gold Experience tour.

One of my MANY Prince stories. The LoveSexy tour, 1988, The Capital Center Arena just outside of Washington DC. The first 3 shows (Fri/Sat/Sun) sold out so quickly that they added Monday night. I had tickets (3rd row) to the Friday night show which I gladly paid $200 for (about $550 in 2024 money). The show was phenomenal of course. He opened with “Head” from the Dirty Mind album, entering the stage driving a ‘57 Thunderbird, and encored with Alphabet St, the single at the time. He played about two hours. The following Sunday my best friend called saying he had an extra ticket to that nights concert because the girl he planned to take cancelled. I thought to myself, “Well, I’ve already seen the show but why not? I’d love to see it again.” So here’s the thing - with the exception of the expected hits, the Sunday night set list was COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THAN FRIDAY NIGHTS. He opened with Alphabet St and played several songs from his first two albums, which he didn’t do on Friday. He also played two songs from The Black Album, which was unreleased but I’d heard due to leaked bootleg copies. Even the stage set up was different. He had a basketball hoop on stage (not there Friday) and took several shots between songs and even during. My mind was blown that they’d switched up the set list so drastically in that short period of time. Of course all the hits from SOTT, Purple Rain, and 1999 were done during both shows, but stuff from Controversy, Dirty Mind , and ATWIAD at the second one I saw.

Cool reaction.....The GREAT Maceo Parker, one of James Brown's greatest sideman and collaborators. When Prince calls him his "teacher" he's speaking as a true music fan...someone who grew up worshipping James Brown and the JB leadership. Check out Maceo in his prime with James Brown. Insanely brilliant stuff...."Mother Popcorn" at the 2:25 spot. Maceo is BLOWING: ruclips.net/video/5eoSXpNZD9o/видео.html .

I highly recommend that you give a reaction to Paolo Nutini singing Iron Sky ( Abbey Road live sessions) he is a si ger from Glasgow, Scotland. Fantastic voice, even Adele was in the Abbey Road studios watching him and she said it was one of the best live performances she has seen
