One of my pupils isn't perfectly round. Something I just noticed. Also have loss of balance and dizziness/headaches often. Getting my eyes checked in a couple weeks because not sure what to think of it all 🤷♀️
@@NurseMinder we denote deformities and damage of the pupil separately. The PEARL is the basic assessment, but the roundness and and pupil damage is addressed depending if ocular damage has occurred or if it’s a genetic defect we review and assess it independently as the prime purpose of pearl is a base line.
Thank you for posting this!!! Surprisingly a lot of nurses assess the eyes differently and there is some discrepancy on how to properly do this neuro exam! If there is only one option for pupil size, is it more appropriate to record and report pupil size with room light or direct light with pen light? Thanks!
I'm so frustrated with accommodation in charting. For 1 it's locked in with all the others as an all or none and 2 I can say it's charted more than 99% of the tjme without ever being checked. And worst of ALL is 90%+ of the nurses don't know what it really is.
Good morning mam,I am completed my PG course , yesterday i want to teach the neurological examination to the nursing students,so i search and saw many videos, but i got a good and clear explanation with your video only,😍😍😍thank you mam,god bless you
I work on an L&D floor and none of the nurses know how to do this on patients. It’s second nature to me because I used to work medsurg-tele so lots of CVA and TIA patients
You are funny. I like your lecture. Maybe someone already mentioned it. but It's not Anasocoria, but anisocoria, and your pronunciation also need to be changed. aniso- means "not equal"
I'm a first year Nursing student, and this helped so much! Your excitment made me excited to attempt this skill!
Yeah!!!!
this is the best PERRLA video out there! straightforward, informative, and your energy makes it fun to watch. thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I like the manner you deliver every lecture. It’s enjoyable and very clear.
Ah! Thanks 😊
I love your sweet attitude you seem like a humble and loving instructor
Appreciation from foreign layperson. This hepls a lot and was expressed vividly, easy to follow. Thank you!
Yes!!! High fives!
Reviewing as i'm going to be working on a Neuropsychiatry unit and this was a great refresher! Thank You!
Thanks!
Omg you’re so amazing! Thank you for the clear explanation! I can never focus during lecture therefore your videos are tremendously helpful
There is a lot to remember in class - and I always find it helpful to review skills - so I am happy to be a resource for you
Thank you for explanation. Please also record a video how to write outcomes in different PERRlA situations.
Thanks. What types of outcomes are you wondering about
@@NurseMinder I mean if pupils are not equal and we can see different reaction and accommodations to light in pupils. How is it notes in PERRLA?
Great question, you chart what you see. For example. Right eye 4/2, left eye 5/2
First Year in Nursing School Here. And I will be your 1k like
Woohoo. How cool is that!!
How was going with nursing ?
Thank you for the vid. I have my eyes and ear assessment for class tomorrow and this helped.

Thankyou for this video a decent easy to understand and able to see how it works
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you first time watching your video and loved it. one new fan. Thank you. I love how you explain and especially your energy is great. Thank you!
I appreciate you 💕
You're wonderful!
Wow! Thanks for that-You are too!
Nice leacture......
Thank you. This answered all the questions I had. Especially the documentation of pre and post pupil size.
Is it really pupils "is" or "are"?
Great video, thanks!
Hmmm - looks like you may have caught me switching up the grammar rules? 🧐
Thanks for teaching!
Thanks for watching 💕
Well, great informational Movie. One important point thoug, what does this examination tell us?
tells us the cranial nerves 3, 4, and 6 are working,
Excellent, many thanks UK
Thanks
Thanks so much.

The pupil difference may be nothing to worry about. Hope you get answers related to your symptoms
thank you
You're awesome!!!
Although I do have a question, on the neuro chart, there's only space for 1 pupil size. So do I chart the before or after size?
It is usually the before, and then there might be a place where you note they are reactive
@@NurseMinder thank you, much appreciated
Thank for answering this!!!! ❤️🙌🏼
I am so glad you asked this I was wondering the same 🙂
Can you do a video on angels check
I am not sure I understand this request
That’s something more specific that Eyecare professionals on RUclips should have videos on
Can you do a video on how to check for narrow angles?
Cool thank you
Thanks for watching
I watch and I'm not even a nurse nor in the medical profession.
Thanks very helpful
Thanks
You are welcome
Can you assess for accommodation on intubated/confused patient?
Yes, take into account any medication that may affect response
Thank you so much. I'd like to know if when doing the consensual, the degree of constriction is just the same as that of the direct?
Yes you will see each pupil will respond similarly
thank you! :)
You are welcome
thx so much
You are welcome
Suggest the eye pen please
I bought it at a hardware store :)
Where I’m from we use PEARL “pupils equal and reactive to light”
So you miss the “round” and reactive - how do you define shape of pupils?
@@NurseMinder we denote deformities and damage of the pupil separately. The PEARL is the basic assessment, but the roundness and and pupil damage is addressed depending if ocular damage has occurred or if it’s a genetic defect we review and assess it independently as the prime purpose of pearl is a base line.

Typically we report the size pre light, and then you will note they were reactive and equal to light in your notes
When do we measure the size of pupil when it dilates after constriction?? Do we place that strip of measurement in front of pupil??
Yes you can do that. Over time you will get comfortable just looking at them and sizing them
Great
Thanks 😊
lol you're funny :) Thank you for this video!!
What is the correct spelling for unequal pupil size Anasocoria or Anisocoria ?
anisocoria :)
Thank you. Can you do intramuscular injection.

I would tend to agree that many don’t know what they are measuring and how to chart it, it was something I noticed as well
Love you
Haha. Now that is not something I see everyday on here. Thanks!

Yes. I see it a lot too - such an important part of any head to toe in my mind, and I have worked in a variety of settings
It's Anisocoria not anAsocoria
Yes
abducens nerve
I must have said something wrong?
Perla my name
Beautiful name :)

Awesome - shows how important pronunciation is
Awesome content! Keep up the great work. If you have a second you could swing by my videos 😁🤘❤️
