This video walks you through the new Beast Academy Science program. Right now, the only level available is 3A (first semester of 3rd grade). 3B is scheduled to be available spring of 2024.
Beast Academy Science is based on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and is a spiral curriculum where science topics will be built on previously taught topics at each grade level.
Beast Academy Science curriculum is written by Jason Batterson and Stephanie Sadrian. Batterson has been with Beast Academy since 2010 and has a background in teaching math and coaching math teams. Sadrian has been with Beast since 2021, has a BS in Molecular Biology and a PhD in Biomedical Science, and also has science teaching experience.

Thanks for the flip through! I was hoping it would be more mastery like their math. My kid definitely prefers a mastery approach to science and then cycle through again later. He has been reading science textbooks for fun since kindergarten.

Thank you for this review. I wish they had come out with this sooner but unfortunately, I already planned out our science for the year. I love the way they set it up and what they're teaching. Beast Academy is amazing, we've been doing their math for a few years as well. I just recently switched to my kids doing it online.

I know, I had a plan for science - but was/am wavering on it. Content areas are tricky! I'm really excited to see where they go with this.

@@homespun.childhood I've been going back and forth the past week but my husband keeps telling me no 😂 Hahaha the voice of "reason" I guess.

Your videos are always so useful! Will you also review BA math? I was thinking of continuing with MWC and supplementing with BA math over the summers as a challenge

thank you! That's exactly our plan for math - MWC is our main math, BA is supplement.

Thanks for explaining more about NGSS. I brought a curriculum that utilizes them but designed for my first grader. Might look into this when we finish our first grade science.

Hi, what curriculum did you find for 1st grade that utilizes NGSS?

    • @emilieelizabeth3831

@WonderNourishments it's hatching curiosity landforms and biomes curriculum, she has an etsy shop and website. Also a RUclips video previewing the program.

This was a great flip through! I wish they had more grades available. My kids are 2nd and 4th and we try to pair up topics but not sure I could make it work with both?

What kind of modifications would you suggest doing to make this work for a 7 year old going into second grade with no formal science education aside from tons of picture books? Would it be best to wait another year or is this worth using as a base with mods? I am totally fine with reading aloud and discussing "foreign" concepts with her but I don't want it to be so far over her head that she misses the important parts. We love BA Math and I know she would love this format for science but I also want her to actually get something out of it without having to repeat it again next year. Science has been so difficult to find a curriculum that "fits" my family and this really looks like exactly what we have been waiting for but I don't want to rush to jump in just because I'm excited about it! Any advice?

I totally get this. Honestly, if you think this is something that will be a good fit - I would hold off until 3rd grade. You might look into History Plus Online (www.historyplusonline.com/) - they are doing science for the entire year, each month has a different science theme and daily, short videos (5-7 min). You could easily pair that with Nomad Press Explore Your World Books (nomadpress.net/book_series/explore-your-world/)
      and/or living books etc.

Have you looked into real science for kids? They have k to 7th so you could find something for your 2nd grader

I just purchased and I’m really debating whether I’m going to let her write in it or write in a notebook so I can reuse it! Did you end up writing in it?

    • @homespun.childhood
      @homespun.childhood  3 месяца назад +1

We wrote in it - but we write in most curricula so 🤷🏻‍♀️
