Ironically 2007 was probably the last great year in college football, there were high ranked teams from coast to coast. USC, Missouri, Kansas, OSU, LSU were in the top 5...whatever "strategy" Saban employed to make Alabama a juggernaut was copied, at least in the south and we got this vortex of talent sucking down south. Realignment also screwed the other conferences while the SEC stayed consistent and even gained teams who were not designed for the conference. I don't know much about NCAA rules but juco rules, satellite camp rules employed all help schools in recruiting hotbeds while hurting those who had to recruit nationally.

Transfer rules make it a liability to sign freshman, and instead it makes sense to go get transfers, meaning fewer freshman are going to have incentive to go division 1, and there will be fewer places for them to go considering the lack of parity and revenue sharing. Conference realignment has killed about half of the historical rivalries, making the season pointless once a team loses, killing attendance and viewership. About 6 teams have a chance to win a championship every year, and the ensuing 12 team playoff will merely set up a beat up opponent for one of the 4 super teams, with a predictable massacre, which is terrible for the team being massacred. At least in the old model a team could end the year against an equal opponent in a bowl.

OSU versus Alabama game was crazy because that was the OSU's 3rd string quarterback (Cardale Jones). The other two guys got hurt, and if Alabama had a deep defensive gameplan instead of blitz/pinch defense - they would of crushed OSU in playoff because Alabama had the better team. Saban had the wrong gameplan with Cardale Jones as QB. I also think 1 time OSU had a better team when they faced Alabama but they lost because a couple of star players were injured during the game. You can really tell which team is better by what's going on with the O-line and D-line battles.
