For what it's worth, the best restoration videos I've seen are done in a series; otherwise it gets a bit bogged down with a job that large. Best of luck, but, I know by the time you get it up and going, you're going to be happy.
CONGRATS on the new purchase. It will be a nice addition to your shop when you get it all fixed up. Don't overwork yourself. Do a bit at a time my friend.
Nice project. If it does not work the scrap value might be close to 45😉 I think the thick metal bar could be for holding the blade guard. This saw looks similar to one at my old job. I am not sure what brand it was. We mostly used that saw for ripping softwood.
I too would prefer a series of short videos as you retore parts of the saw. One lengthy all-inclusive video might discourage some from viewing the completed project.
Hiya Dean. Nice score there M8. My .02p on the question is pretty much covered in yer channel's name; Journey! Maybe no every wee step and bump, but deffo a series on the project. Saxton blades can be found for the 5/8in arbour. Take care & stay safe.
Hi Dean hope your well, That is a bargain at £45 don't mater if it dose not run that can be sorted out no problem. You just need to find a local electrical engineering company usually on an Industrial estate should be able to sort out worm gear or drives or a new motor ,you could fit a 2 or 2.5 hp motor usually 1hp = 710 watts. when I first saw it I though it was a three phase motor but when you said 240 volt I knew it was single phase ( 3 phase is usually 400 to 415 volt ) That will make a good table saw. If you needed a new motor you be all right with a 2 or 2.5 hp 1420 watts to 1760 watts be ok with a 13 amp fuse in a plug but if you going to use over 2.5 hp or 3 hp 1760 watts to 2130 watts I would put it on it's own circuit 15 or 16 amp supply. As always a great video Take care👍
The Lumberjack TS1800 has 5/8 arbor and they had a sale on their blades which seem OK from the small use I’ve had with them. Also got the adapters from Axminster, 30mm to 5/8. £45 for a fun, interesting project that might be useful at the end of it sounds like a bargain. I’d go with a series, focusing on each stage in a video, so lift mechanism one vid, motor another vid, cosmetics another, etc. Good luck and enjoy!
If you can get all the missing parts & get it running & cleaned up its a bargain you definitely should do a series of videos as & when. Not absolutely every little thing you do but definitely show the main steps you take if that makes sense. Cleaning & paint in one video. Motor in another, restoring the top etc etc that would be great to see
One regret I have after relocating to the Philippines is that I gave away all my wood working tools to my family and friends. The majority of the available equipment here is comprised of inexpensive, low-quality products made in china, which are essentially plastic junk .
Get shut of that old motor and put a 2 hp one on. take the other screw out and see if it fits then search for the size you need, it could be an acme thread or a butress thread you will have to examine the profile. Best to take loads of photo's before you take it apart and cleaning cast iron is best done with wet and dry useing oil. White spirit is a good degreaser.
Seems quite the job you've got laid out for yourself Dean! Think I'd prefer separate videos, so you could get a bit more into all the details! If you get the table saw up and running for a few pounds it sure is a great bargain. Hope the rust on the top is only superficial so you'll be able to make it into one of those lovely shiny cast iron tops!
Series please, and to be honest, I'd rather you produced more videos even if they're hand shot and noisy in the moment, rather than fewer polished ones. Of course, both would be perfect ;)
"I could use some help"........ Yhep, you certainly do need some help😂. My prediction is when you get that beastie up and running you will realise just how limiting the tracksaw idea really is.... (Not dissing tracksaws, they have their uses)

Good luck Dean. It will be an interesting project. Cheers
Thanks David!

Absolutely!
Series, please Dean. Good luck with your warp drive.
Will do!

Cheers buddy!
I think a resoration series would be best Dean.

Cool saw!! I've taken a fair bit of rust off of my big tools when brought into the shop. Portion the restoration into a few videos. 🖖

Maybe, I’ve not looked more into that yet but it could be for the rear fence to lock onto

Gotcha

Yep, once I get the rest of the saw up to scratch then I’ll worry about the motor
Looks great :-) looking forward to seeing your work on it and the workshop fittings.
You might want to blur your number plate btw 😅
I know people do but literally thousands of people can see it every time I leave the house so I’m not overly concerned

Maybe just check in on progress when you are doing other videos, and then a super it when it's done/ mostly done

Post a video of you weighing it in and getting your £45 back 😂
Good luck 🤞🏻

I sorted the rust today, I posted a pic on here and the socials and it came up pretty nicely!

I kinda max out what my health will allow but I’ll see what I can do
After more looking, it looks like it's a Rexon RXW-10

Oh I’m fully aware, I love tablesaws, but a tracksaw in combination with a bandsaw and or mitre saw does most things
Any thoughts? You're mad. 🤣🤣
I like to surprise people 😁
