  • In This Video I focus on the CHUCK ROTARY AXIS for Co2 Laser, software config, settings and Circle Pulse Calculation.
    In order to use the rotary attachment you will need to change some values in the Vendor and User Settings for your controller.
    I acquired this Rotary axis from Cloudraylaser.com
    (Also available on Amazon Links Below)
    Roller/Wheel Rotary Axis - amzn.to/2RJuyGW
    Chuck Rotary Axis - amzn.to/2ZRhT7w
    Looking for some projects to engrave with your rotary axis?

    Aluminium Anodized Compact Perfume Aftershave Atomiser - amzn.to/31XyqbN
    Checkout Matt's Workshop Community Page - www.youtube.co...
    Follow instructions in the video to backup your Vendor and User Settings before you make any changes.
    Let’s look at some of the values you will need
    1st you will need to know the GEAR RATIO of the chuck attachment that you are using. Cloudray Chuck Rotary Axis has a gear Ratio of 2:1
    If you do not have a Cloudray rotary axis, then to calculate the Gear Ratio of your attachment Either count the number of teeth on a Wheel Gear and the Stepper motor Gear, then Divide by the Number of Teeth on The Wheel Gear by the number of teeth on the stepper motor gear.
    Or divide the diameter of each gear and make the same division
    Next you will need to find the DIAMETER RATIO
    The Diameter Ratio for Chuck Rotary Axis is 1:1
    The final piece of data we need to calculate the Steps Per Rotation is the PULSE/REVOLUTION value from your Stepper Driver.
    In this example the Stepper Driver is a DM542
    Look at SW5 to SW8 and note how they are set on the driver. In this case
    SW5 - OFF
    SW6-OFF
    SW7-ON
    SW8-OFF
    Refer to the Driver Pulse/Rev Table (in my example this =5000)
    Now to work out the Steps Per Rotation (aka Circle Pulse)
    Use this formula
    Gear Ratio x Diameter Ratio x Pulse/Rev = Circle Pulse
    2 x 1 x 5000 = 7400
    10000 Steps/Revolution
    -----
    The Settings in your software (RD Works or LightBurn) need to be adjusted for each different sized material you are processing. The Constant is the Steps/Revolution aka Circle Pulse.
    If your workpiece has diameter of 127mm enter this in the Diameter field of the rotary settings.
    Hope you enjoy the video.
    I acquired this Rotary axis from Cloudray Laser @ www.cloudrayla...

    Until next time, take care

    Thank you for sharing your knowledge. How did you learn all this? Especially since Chinese machines, or at least mine, come with almost no useful information and they're nothing like the ease of use of an American machine, particularly the rotary device, where all you need to know is the diameter of the item you're engraving. This video has been invaluable! Thanks again.

    Hello, I found your video very informative and easy to follow which I appreciate very much. in any event I did all the steps right along with you and set up both Lightburn and RDworks. However, there is something not right in lightburn and I can't for the life of me figure out what is going on. The steps per rotation in the machine settings keeps changing to some odd 73 number after I update and write the 80mm chuck size to my machine. Also, I am using current position and placed it in various starting points and the same issue happens when running a test engrave. When the test file is run the rotary spins around a few times and then starts the burn in a different place on the cup than where I wanted it to start. Then when I run the file again after moving the file down in my work area and resending to the machine, the rotary goes around a few times and then goes back up to the original test area and lasers over the previous test run. I'm at my wits end trying to figure out what is going on. I've asked on a few Omtech sites but the answers are basically you don't know what your doing and then they stop replying. If you can give me any insight on why this may be occurring I would be very grateful.

    Great Video Matt, I'm gaining confidence to give this my Chuck type Rotary a go ... couple questions.
    Do I need to disable the Homing process? Is there a setting for that?
    I'm unsure of the Rotary's positioning when placed in the machine .. as I face my laser is the Rotary positioned lengthwise Left to Right with the Rotary's drive assy on the left?
    Really appreciate your efforts, this is by far the best and most comprehensive on going tutorial available relating to the Chinese Laser machines for the users trying to learn about the Rotary.
    Thanks!! Tim

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Tim, The rotary usually goes into the machine in the orientation with the Rotary Assay on the Right, I did it in reverse as I was having difficulty videoing the shots and not being ambidextrous this was easier for me. (as a result I had to reverse the homing position and start locations) I'm hoping I have not confused anyone by doing this.
      It is wise to disable the Y-Axis homing before attaching the rotary, as theY axis will spin constantly until it finds the limit switch. If you do not turn off the Y Axis homing then you would need to manually move the axis rail up to the limit switch to reset and then manually return it to the working location above the rotary axis.
      The setting for disabling the 'homing position' was mentioned in Episode.1 at ruclips.net/video/Y-NzNeaOegI/видео.html
      and also in this video at 2:35
      There was so much to cover in this video and I didn't want to bombard viewers with too much info. I understand there will a lot of questions and I'm happy to answer them, I may compile them all and make an additional video answering common questions on topics I have not covered or that need clarification.
      Sorry I needed to Edit this Comment as I did not read the initial question properly. :)

    What's the difference between the 2-phase and the 3-phase chuck rotary? Which should I order for the red-and-black 80W laser?

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  4 года назад +3

      they are different stepper motors and use a diver to suit. The Red&Black normally uses a 2 phase motor. to check, look at your Y axis Driver (if on it it has printed connections for A+ A- B+ B- then it is a 2 phase, if it has connections U V W then you will need a 3 phase.

    Great information and helped alot. I've just got my laser and it has a switch to swap between plane / rotary. I understand you have backed up your ruida settings via lightburn and then edited them for the rotary....including the homing option. When I go back to plane (standard lasering) do I need to send back to the controller the backed up settings? How does it home with the edited settings?
    Many thanks

    (1) How does one remove the honeycomb bed to access the rotary attachment -- is it just four screws? (2) Can one generally store the rotary attachment under the workspace as long as one is not working on very thick stock? (3) Does one have to worry about the rotary attachment drifting about on the "floor" of the laser, i.e., does it have to be secured at all on the floor of the laser cutter?

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  4 года назад

      Hi, I have replied to you in more detail via email. But the short answers to your questions are:
      1 - Yes 4 Screws to remove honeycomb, but not always necessary to remove.
      2 - No it is not a good idea to store anything under the honeycomb table
      3 - No, you should not need to secure it
      Cheers Matt

    Did you make the setting change in rd works then u went to lightburn?

    • @MWLaser
      @MWLaser  3 года назад

      when you change settings in RD works Vendor Tools, it saves this to the controller, so if you change it in one software (LightBurn / RD Works) it will be the same in the other software as it is reading info from controller not the software.

    Hi, i like your videos, and i want to ask you about rotary set up, if i enable the rotary it doesnt do nothing, if not enabled it moves, is a machine of Gweike, they said that dont need to enable rotary, that just need to change steps size in Y axis, i think this is not practical to be changing those numbers in factory setting, what can tell me about that. Thank you.
