Road Trip From England to Tenerife | 1,500 Miles With a Fiat on 177,000 Miles, towing a Motorbike!

- The day finally arrived! Monika and I packed up the Fiat 500, hooked the trailer up to the back, loaded up the Bonneville and hit the road for a new adventure in Tenerife.
This will be a road trip that consists of over 1,500 miles by land, and then fort hours by sea!
The Fiat started the journey on 177,000 miles, and with the Bonneville attached, it was right on the maximum towing capacity limit, and with the car itself full to the brim with our belongings, we weren’t 100% sure if it’d make it!
We boarded the ferry from the port of Dover on the south coast of England, and enjoyed some breakfast for the 75 minute crossing. The cost of the ferry for Monika, myself, the car and trailer, was £170.
The trailer was purchased second hand from eBay for £150- there’s loads of choice on eBay for used trailers at good prices!
These first two days were spent driving through France on their Peage motorways (I think it cost around £80 in toll charges to drive through France), and then into Northern Spain.

I envy this guy. He’s living in the moment. I am stuck living in my head. 😞
Your always living in the moment.......all you have to do is notice it...👍
There’s only one person that can change that..
Get out there and enjoy the world my friend
Anyone can do it ,even without a Monica .lol
@@anthonydowling3356 not if you don't have money friend. that's not something that easily changed for everyone, especially if they live somewhere where flying is the only way to see the world.
Monika’s Accommodations booking skills are off the charts!👍🏾
Thank you- I’ve shown this to Monika and she’s very happy to see this!
Nice to get an update on your epic journey, look forward to part 2,nice accommodation, bet you can't wait to get back on the Bonneville when you get to Tenerife, safe travels👊🙂
Great job Monica 👏pk
Sunday mornings with Freddie, favourite time of the week 👌I think we in the UK will always be mileage snobs. I remember learning to ride in the late 90s and my instructor saying he wouldn’t buy a bike with more than 25k miles as he reckoned that was a high mileage. Then I watch riders in the states making vids about riding trans america, without giving a second thought to the fact their machines have 150k+ miles on them. My grandad always drove older cars and was fond of saying a well maintained car with high miles is a much better buy than a low mileage car that’s only done school runs and therefore has never allowed the oil to get to it’s optimum working temperature. Safe travels my friends and looking forward to the next video 👍👍
I LOVE this, and 100% agree! Three out of the past four of my cars have had 160k+ miles on the clock (all ran perfectly), and the only one that didn’t was a diesel smart car with 39k miles that the engine blew up on and I had to sell for scrap 10 months after buying😨
I’m confident that faithful old fiat will munch down the distance like a champ
I always observe different angles on these videos, thank you for the tour, but what strikes me, is watching Monica following you while you live your dream and she is just there to assist you, that is a faithful woman in love. Make sure you treat her well and take care of her, because those are rare and hard to find these days. A woman that will surrender her dreams, her life just to help that man follow his dream. I can assure you, going on those tours and adventures would be meaningless and pointless without Monica. It is great to have a life companion.
Stumbled upon this channel and its my new favorite, great videos! PS - audio sounds great!
Delighted you’re enjoying it and thanks very much for the audio feedback!🙌🏻
Yes same here 👍🏼 ✨ ✨
Same here, bloody refreshing, subscribed Freddie 😀
@@gavinwalding4707 Thanks Gavin!:)
Always cross your trailer’s safety chains. That way if the trailer comes loose the chains will cradle the tongue and keep it from hitting the pavement or worse, digging in on unimproved roads ( I know, it’s just an American thing )......ps. Ideally the chains should be hooked to the vehicle, not the hitch.
What a fantastic adventure! Living vicariously through you guys! Safe travels.
Me too! Would love to do this road trip ending up in Tenerife for an extended period.
Another great tour you take us on. Absolutely love these trips. Makes time on stepper at the gym less painful. Thanks to both of you.
Thanks for taking us along on the adventure Freddie, cant wait for episode two.
Morning gang, sound is still excellent. 177,000 miles on a Fix It Again Tomorrow you must be mad, but with both of your amount of enthusiasm you will get there in one piece. Hopefully safe journey take care
So glad the sound quality’s good!! I can’t believe how solid the Fiat is- not even a hint of a problem- I can’t believe a Fiat is the most reliable, highest mileage car I’ve owned!😆
Thanks Richard!🙌🏻

So fun to follow you guys on your trip! God speed 🤙🏻

Sure you´ll make it - small italian and french cars have one thing in common. As soon as all the bits meant to fall off has fallen off, the rest will go on forever. 👍🎅☀
I LOVE this!!! I’ve never heard of this, but I agree with it completely and will remember it!😃
I think you and Monika would make perfect b&b hosts/guides for biking holidays....on top of everything else you guys do!
£65 a night for that place! Fantastic! Good health and good luck to you both, look forward to seeing more ✌
Yes man yes. You go Ole boy. Take your Monica and live by goodness live. I want to do it all again. I am happy living vicariously through now.
Love it. You are a perfect team. Your enthusiasm and excitement is infectious. Did Italy pre Covid in an Audi TT Mk1 solo with camping gear from Southport NW England. You have inspired me to plan for next year.
I envy you and your trip more. I was hoping to do the same but the dreaded C word got in the way
Loving this Freddie, and your enthusiaism is infectious
I stumbled across this video when I got myself stuck in a RUclips hole last year!
And this was the exact series of videos that inspired my roadtrip because I couldn’t believe the little Fiat made it with no issues!
So I came up with the idea to drive a little Peugeot 206, that I bought for literally driving to work and back and nothing else, to Gibraltar!
During planning the trip, it soon grew arms and legs, so in may this year we set off….and bounced our way through 10 countries, hitting autobahns, racetracks, Swiss passes, coast roads, camp sites….allsorts!
Nearly 4000 miles we did altogether, without a single issue, and it was honestly the best thing I’ve ever done!👌🏼
If it hadn’t of been for this video, I would NEVER have thought of doing something like that!👌🏼
You really cant beat a road trip - spot on guys
Looking good guys! Well packed and I am confident you will make it OK
Thanks also for the Mics, a great improvement.

Thanks for channel, dude.
Best of luck in Tenerife.
🍻 🍻 🍻
Really appreciate it, thank you!🙌🏻
Really enjoyed watching this video. Love the music choices which compliments the mood at the time and heightens the viewing experience. One of the things I enjoyed most is I imagine that for most people watching this, your budgets (prices you are willing to pay), food choices & britishisms (if that is a word/term) are totally relatable.
👍👍👍
Brilliant way to travel
Done this route 6 time s
London to Casablanca
Thank you for all the work you both DO so we all can enjoy your v logs
Jamal 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Great production on your videos, really nice to watch a channel which doesn't just put videos out for the sake of it, well done, and keep up the good work👍
Absolutely captivating, friend. I'm completely hooked.......well done! I think we are going to need a national holiday added to the calendar to celebrate when your little fiat makes it to your doorstep in Tenerife! How you manage to keep your excitement and positivity so full-on for such long arduous hours is an example to us all. Enjoy your travels friend, we're along for the ride. Safe journey, both....

I have to agree with previous comments… Watching this update on a Sunday morning is bliss and of course the Fiat will make it. I’m am jealous though that you’ve managed to break free from England haha. Love your music choices 😃.

Wow! Seeing you bag those crispy-crackly fresh pastries made my mouth water! :)
Great video, I wish I was able to do the same sometime. Looking forward to viewing part two.
Living the life. Subscribed!
Great video and adventure ahead
Superb video. Fun and interesting to watch. Feel like I’m actually travelling.
Brings back happy memories of many years of travel. I knew you were over optimistic to think you would make it from Calais to Spanish border in a day. France is a massive country. So much traffic passing through. The French always impress with their different types of accommodation. Light years ahead of us in the UK. I suspected you were around Burgos. Done those trips so many times and Burgos seems to be point when fatigue sets in and overnight stop required.
You sum it up really well. The excitement of travel. The variations in the regions.
Your narration and music and photography is excellent. Better than anything on TV.
Thanks.
Excellent ,fantastic adventure
Have to say really enjoy your videos. Production excellent, great videography tightly edited, great balance of Ride, interest topics, bike stuff kit and food. Rock on Ed and Monica.
Thank you!🙌🏻🙌🏻
As I mentioned my Wife (Isa) is from Spain. We are not ready to travel yet from Texas to her family , some from Burgos. She won't even look at you and Monica's trip. Even I feel nostalgic cause I lived there 1970-75. Great job as usual.
Nice to see you guys having fun on your trip. I,m pretty sure that Monika will not be left behind on the Spanish!👍🇨🇦
Awesome videos, me and my partner are about to embark on the same trip over to Lanzarote for a few months! So your videos are a huge help 👍
Hiya Ed, been watching your vids for awhile now, your a great team and very inspirational.
Brilliant journey, you are a natural in front of the camera, Love the Fiat, my daughters first car, great little motor so cute, it has done superbly to get that mileage, keep safe , really into your travels. That place in Spain was exceptional, so bright and modern, beautiful
Thx for taking us with you 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Really looking forward to seeing your adventures. I love Tenerife, and always said I’ll move there one day. You might just give me the kick up the arse I need.
Thanks! I’ve been saying the same thing about Tenerife too🙂🇪🇸👌🏻👌🏻
Good luck guys, stay safe
Great catching up y u guys! Man, what would you do without Monika!? She does literally everything 😂
