They never played it for "the last time". It became a well-worn pest after being played every single gig since its release for 3 tours straight. It was long overdue for the song to get rested for a bit, and here we are.
Look at footage of the 2014 renditions and there's your answer. It way overstayed its welcome after being performed 3 tours straight. They were going through the motions, it was a beer break for the fans and a pest in the setlist. Put it away for one and a half tour and it suddenly sounds fresh again.
I understand that as you get older you don't want to do the stuff that you did at 18-20 anymore but damn these songs are great to listen again from time to time

I'm a hardline believer that their new stuff is their best but to see them play this again is amazing, so happy they're happy playing it again. Really get the sense that they're all very happy and confident at the moment, and with Fluorescent Adolescent being played again, nothing is off the cards! :)

Got to see them in 2013 at Staples Center in Los Angeles while they were finishing up the long ass AM tour. I didn't expect them to play this song but when that first chord rang out the crowd went wild (and me).
Imagine seeing Arctic monkeys and they only played their new stuff anything past FWN is their worst stuff, I've loved them since their Myspace debut and they fell off HARD at AM. Fame got to Alex and he changed.
