Skies of Arcadia - Part 8 - Giga Bites
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 9 май 2024
- Skies of Arcadia continues, as we face our first Giga in combat, and very rapidly learn that you absolutely, definitely should not fight Gigas under any circumstances...
Skies of Arcadia is tragically completely unavailable to purchase on any currently existing store, and was also never released on PC. If you want to play it yourself, your options are the GameCube and Dreamcast versions, which were the only releases. Sorry.

Just because you mentioned it on the live stream, I wanted to let you know that I enjoy this series very much. I am here for it till the end.
Seconded! You can't hook me in, and then just stop, that would be...like...doing a mean!
Same hear, I've been looking forward to this playthrough ever since I heard Jon mention this game.
Same here, never heard of this game but it has so much charm and it's fun watching Jon gush about it
@@katbairwellif he ever stops this series I guess I'll become one of the many requesters and ask him to finish it. Even if I have to ask 1230 days for each new episode!
@@donovanfaust3227Your heroic spirit has not gone unnoticed, brave one!
Etymology. A Gigas (plural Gigantes) is a powerful, aggressive monster born from the blood of Uranus in Greek and Roman mythology.
I would be 100% ok with Gigas and Gigantes, as I am with Giga and Gigas - it's just Gigas and Gigas I can't be dealing with...
@@ManyATrueNerd You must hate "news" then too.

Or as we say up here in Canada, Moose or Moose. Though, I often hear giggles when I say Meese. Y'know, Goose-Geese, Moose-Meese.. ;)
@@GamingGreyBeard And boob - beeb.
Its not a coward save, Jon!
It's a tactical restore point.
Drachma is giving the DnD player that can only be there every other session
I didn't expect to be this invested in this series, it's a compelling story and Jon's enthusiasm bleeding into every word is absolutely addictive.
In every game Jon is like "A sea captain's hat? Hell the flip yeah!"
'As pirates, we can't abide stealing from innocent people!'
Glad to see Jon playing a game he loves again. channels playing 8-32 bit retro games aren't at the top of anyone's stream lists, but when it is people who really love the games really showing them off there will always be a core audience of those of us who just enjoy listening to someone show off a passion.
I like that the legendary enemies are basically called “money and bartering”
Drachma came back from getting cigarettes.
As someone who has been a smoker, can confirm. Every hour, two hours you're gonna be gone for ten minutes. Guaranteed.
And buying the next pack so you don't run out before morning is of primary importance. You do not want to run out.
@@Scott_Forsell Best hope nothing important is happening when you're gone
Heavily invested in the story at this point keep it up
I love the scale of the Giga to the world around it, the size of it compared to the ship for example is just amazing.
As a kid I played this game and I never managed to defeat the red Giga(s). Only years later did I manage to defeat it and actually finish the game. Absolutely devestating, this boss.
You not got mad skills at this game
It’s sad this series isn’t doing super well but I really love it. I have no relationship at all with this game and it seems fine, but I really enjoy Jon playing games he has such affection for and knows so well. Hope it continues!
Haven’t watched many of your vids recently but this series is fantastic I really enjoy watching people playing games that have a much better understanding of it than I do that’s why your fallout videos work so well for me.
This is a pretty interesting way to do ship battles. I appreciate that every so often it has you make strategic decisions during the fight, certainly helps spice up the turn based aspect a little.
A Ruby coloured giant world ending Weapon superboss, in a desert, firing lasers from it's face. This seems familiar.
Aladdin? /j
This feels like a reference I should get but it's not hitting me.

Big fat tacos! Big fat tacos, so big!
The rounded shape and ruddy colouring of Balleza's ship is a bit psychoanalytic
It's so delightful vicariously playing along to a game I have so much nostalgia for. Thanks so much, Jon. This game holds up... mostly.
Whenever there's a big leggy enemy in anything, I immediately think of Star Wars. I was raised proper, dammit!!
Hey guys, you ever see this really old movie, Empire Strikes Back?
@@majorwesjanson Easy on the "really old" there, would you?!! But yes, abso-flipping-lutely!
Its wild how much i kvoe this series despite never hearing about it before Jon. It helps that jons kove for the game and his personality are a perfect match with the game too
Same, its an upbeat, optimistic story about adventure.
Why is Aika turning into a Bond villain? She was all too happy to suggest attacking Belleza, threaten her with violence, and leave her in the desert.
I don't see the problem 👌
Loving this series!
Theres some older games which definitely need to be spotlighted (you were the one who made me aware of Jade Empire and I had a lot of fun playing that!), and your series where you have extensive knowledge of the game are some of my favourites (fallout no kill, hitman 2 & blood money, ect.)
I absolutely love this series! Even if it isn't getting the views other series have
42:40 if they ever make a sequel I want to see the famed legendary quality of larso clan carpets mentioned!
the first time i played this game i got stuck on the belleza fight without sufficient healing items, and had to restart the whole game. 14 year old me had so much patience! lol!
So glad you're covering this gem of a game, REALLY wish it was on Steam..... Come on Sega.... TAKE MY MONEY!
This fight is literally that meme of Rowlet vs Groudon.
Drachma ship used SHIP CANNON: it is not very effective.
Red Gigas Recumen used Red Beam of Nuclear Apocalypse:
Thinking about it, it would be pretty cool to be able to cast delta shield on your enemies. Sure you wouldn't be able to attack them with your own magic for a turn but just like it can mess with your own support spells it would be cool to turn that against the enemy to possibly stop their own buffing or healing. A bit of a risk vs reward mechanic which is always fun.
Is it me or does the Lynx seem rather phallic in shape and color?
Not as much as a certain other flagship we'll run into later.
Top notch ep as always :D lovely to watch this as i slip into nostalgia dreams late at night
I wasn’t looking forward to this series before it came out, but holy crap I am loving it. I love turn based RPGs, & I feel like they rarely get enough coverage. Anyways, loving the series. Please continue
Commenting for engagement because I am loving this series!
I didn't know what to expect from this series but dude, it's amazing. The time flies by far too quickly. Keep up the good work Jon 👏
I've been playing along on my own copy, been fun to get back into it!
Got a good question about Recumen. How can it be a feared weapon of mass destruction in a fantasy world full of floating islands with its mode of movement being on four legs? Does it mean it can fly or do the ancients have a big airship to move it from island to island?
They can probably cable it to a few airships if they need to get it to another island.
Wait why does Jon hate Gigas as the singular form for the big nuclear mechs? Isn't Gigas in Greek the singular for giant and Gigantes the plural?
Or am I just dumb and getting something mixed up?
It's not that he dislikes Gigas as the singular, he dislikes it being both the singular and the plural.
Hopefully he never learns about fish
@@SourceOfBeing But he uses Giga as the singular and Gigas as the plural which is what confuses me.
It's possible it never occurred to him, plus even if gigas is the singular form of gigantes in Greek that isn't how it seems to be used here so that little fact doesn't really matter. They are called Gigas, never referred to as Gigantes, in game when talking of many or one. So to differentiate he drops the "s" to make it singular.
I love this series
Can the gigas fly and/or be transported? Or is this just a threat to Nasr??
Love this game, thanks for playing it Jon ^_^
You get a captain's hat, but it doesn't show up on your character.
I'm not sure I can keep watching this series.
I love Drachma so much. grumpy old man. 💘
Apa means monkey in Swedish; what are you doing to that ship, Jon?
Nice series
Hands up who didn't upgrade their ship before the Belleza fight the first time they played and had to restart (I was a kid ok). I disagree about the ship combat, the Belleza fight is weirdly hard in terms of damage taken compared to the rest of the ship fights.
i bet, if you continue fighting, you must be able to eventually win. I'm sure someone has tried it
I think its scripted that if you do enough damage to the Red Gigas, Vyse and co will decide that they can't win and automatically go after Belleza.
@@atoth62 Not quite Final Fantasy then, despite its gun armed protagonist. :P
In FF there was always an early boss you could beat if you had enough patience.
This game is great

This game reminds me of Golden Sun
Not my cuppa, but I love this series.
Yessir. Commenting for the favor of the overlords.
Rupee... small... inexperienced (ie *green*...)
I doubt thats actually a Zelda reference but im going to make it one, damnit :P
Ps - you made that 'superboss fight' look easy 😁
Moons, give me string!
But then Drachma came back, he couldn't stay away. He was sailing on the ship the very next day. Drachma came back, he didn't want to roam, he wouldn't leave Vyse's gang on their own.
Star Control date 0086!
Life is weird, and I've got some catching up to do. So no faffing about.
I humbly request that Jon play Star Control 2.
It's his favorite game ever, whether he knows it or not.
I don't remember been able to heal the ship. So i beat evry ship battle with out healing some how i got mad skills
Petition to rename the cannon the Wave Motion Harpoon
Oh Gods, thankfully Jon is here to save me! One of the neighbourhood teens is obviously having a birthday, over-loud fireworks to rival a New Year's display (before it was even dark, dagnabbit) and now they are..."singing"? Young people deserve to celebrate milestones and achievements, but there should be some kind of DMZ between the young people, and old 'uns like me, who need to keep their murder urges down (the court said I had to)
Same here beside the fireworks its 1 am and theyre still blasting music, common decentsy is hard to find nowadays 🙄, if youre having a party thats fine but anything after midnight stays either in your home and not on full blast
@@cyriell There seems to be a shift toward compassion and gentleness, and it's such a shame. But then I think about all the pressures that young folx endure that I didn't have to, and I don't blame them cutting loose. I don't know, there just seems space to find a fair balance for everyone. Anyway, I hope things quiet down soon
The worst thing about this episode dropping today is having to wait 4 days for the next one
😊
🔥❤️🔥🔥
That's a pretty good turn for ship combat.
@@crisis8v88 I’m enjoying this series greatly
Day 98 of requesting _Age of Mythology_ (A full playthrough if possible)
I can't help but wonder what the Valuan Empire's plan was here. Yes, they've awoken some sort of four-headed robo-camel of the apocalypse. Good for them, it's every man's dream to do specifically that (I'm just the only one honest enough to admit it). Do they actually _control_ it though? Like... if anything, conquest of Nasr just became more difficult because any of their holdings will also have to worry about the four-headed robo-camel of the apocalypse.
EDIT: I just heard the bit about controlling it. That seems like a lot of trust to put in the loyalty of whoever grabs the moon stone. Forget taking orders, you now have a superweapon capable of taking out your commanding officer. Why isn't the Empress or her son doing this treasure hunt?
Well the Gigas is supposed to listen to the person that awakened it so seeing as one of their officers awoke it I think they'll be fine. 8:02
Good point! There's at least _one_ (former) Valuan general who'd probably turned around and thrown a coup d'état.
Fastest click on the notis
Not today the Star Wars holiday request beat you
They shold of lets uz leave thase things toll we had the better ship they could be like mid to end game things 😮
It would be so cool if after Belleza said "I hope you survive long enough for us to meet again", Vyse just went "I will, but you won't" and proceed to execute her on the spot.
