Wild Camping with a Brompton Bike - Inis Meáin

- Following a train journey from Dublin to Galway, I cycled my Brompton bike from Galway City to Rossaveel to catch the boat over to Inis Meáin. As the boat was leaving at 10:30am, I stayed overnight with a friend in Furbo before continuing to Rossaveel the next morning. I wild camped on Inis Meáin at Cathaoir Synge and found a spot with good shelter from the wind and amazing views. I spent from 3:30pm hiding out in the tent from the rain on the first day and then had the following day to explore the rest of the island. My return boat journey left the island at 4:30pm allowing me decent time to explore. This trip was done in November whereas Summer hours would have provided more quality time to explore.

I have watched Susanna many times and now I have found you, your both such genuine and honest women i feel like i am with you on your ride's your a pleasure to watch thank you very much.
Thank you very much 🤗 Susanna’s videos are a great inspiration to me too. Another woman out doing what she does and I know it’s not all about the camera and being front and centre stage with her - the trips will happen camera or no camera. Filming a trip brings many rewards! It’s so lovely to have a record of a trip but it’s a different quality to have no camera. I’m off today for a hike and camp with no camera and hopefully I wont be pining for the camera now 🤭 Thanks very much for watching this video and your lovely message - it’s such a wonderful place!! You’ve reminded be of the lovely feeling I had while there! 😍
Hi Miriam! What a lovely film!!! And so nice of you to say that you were inspired by my ride to Donegal. That's so lovely xx I was watching your film and thinking how great it is, and what a lovely place and beautifully filmed, and then you mentioned me in it! haha! I was so surprised and shouted to my husband that he must come and look, and he was making popcorn and wondered what on earth was going on haha. So we ate the popcorn watching your film. Lovely! Looking forward to the next one! Best wishes! x
Brilliant to hear from you Susanna - I was hoping you would see it! I meant it when I said your video really moved me, there is something about the mood that comes from your videos that I resonate with and it’s not something I come across often. Your trips have added another dimension to the exploring that I can now do 😊 Delighted I came across your channel and I look forward to Chapter 2 of your visit to Ireland in the rain! Great to have been inspired by you and I’m glad you enjoyed my little trip to Inis Meáin!! Much respect to you!! xx
I’m loving that both of you are now chatting on here too! Great videos all round
@@boogiedout Cheers! I’m delighted that Susanna got to see the video…the magic of RUclips!! Thanks for your message 🙂
I love your adventures Susanna and you passed very close to my place when you were near Mullingar. I wish I had known.
@@jillwright8087 awwwww!!! That’s so nice to hear. I saw you mentioned you’re on FB, I’m not on FB but my email address is camogiemir@gmail.com if ever you fancy saying hello!
You longing my Love Ireland with your videos very much. Also to do a Brompton Trip with wild camping. Thx a lot for your empathic inspiration
Thank you very much Ulrich, that’s lovely to hear 😊
i love it…happiness is free🥰 thats how i feel when i ride my Brompton bike 🚴
Thank you!! Yep, cycling a Brompton is a pretty special feeling alright 😉 Thanks for your message and keep enjoying your Brompton!! 😎
Please continue with your travels and videos. It is a real pleasure to follow you.
Thank you for such a lovely message George!! Hopefully I’ll get out there with a camera again soon 🤞 I like to do plenty of trips with no camera and then eventually I’ll feel the pull to bring the camera along and have a bit of fun with that! Thanks so much for your encouragement, it definitely helps me keep doing it 😊
It's videos like this from yourself and Susanna that have made a friend and I (plus his wife possibly) get out our folders and plan a Spring trip along the East Gippsland rail trail in Victoria, Australia. Now in our 70's we need to ride 'em a bit first to get some muscles happening!. Colin and I both ride/camp with recumbent trikes but they are a hassle to get to Gippsland from Tasmania - hence the focus on my Brompton and their folders. Previous planned Victorian trips when down the gurgler when covid lockdowns happened so looking forward to September immensely. Thanks you and now to watch more Miriam.
That’s great to hear Ant! What a trip that sounds…no need to train too much possibly, take it nice and slow and you’ll all be fine no doubt 😉 That’ll be lovely to share the journey with friends. Much and all as I love my solo trips, I’ve yet to do a cycling trip with friends (mine would have no interest!) but I can imagine the fun in that. Thanks so much for your message and I hope you all enjoy getting your folders out there together 🤗 Take good care and maybe you’ll all come over to Ireland on a future visit with your folders 😎
Very high quality travel video with brompton, appreciated and keep up the good trip sharing👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks very much Kenny! Really glad you enjoyed it 👍
I loved your video-great photography and music but the thing that caught me most was the perpetual smile on your face, you seemed to be having a ball.
Hi Derek - you’re right!! I so enjoy visiting islands, I’m just back from having lunch with a friend and I was saying to her how I’d love to take 2 months off work (to mark my 50th) and visit as many islands as I could during that time 😊 A little dream for next Summer perhaps 🤔 Thanks so much for watching and your lovely message!!
What a spiritual experience this might be for you. So beautiful.
Anytime I go out with a tent is a very special experience alright! Yes, it’s a really beautiful place to spend some time, I really enjoyed this trip. Thanks for watching and your message 😊
hi the good thing is that you always find a place for wildcamping with the bicycle same with the kajak.good pictures with your drone
Hi Peter - thanks for your message! Yes, it’s certainly good to be able to find places to wildcamp with the bike, it’s a little tougher than when I’m hiking up a mountain where I’ve plenty of spots to choose from with no one around. All part of the fun!! Happy cycling and kayaking to you!! 🤗
Just mesmerizing, I loved every minute. Thank you, it’s so breathtaking to an Arizona desert rat girl. Your quite inspiring yourself. I’m going to buy the Brompton.
Thank you so much Norma!! That’s lovely of you to say 🤗 Delighted you enjoyed it and fantastic to hear you’re going to buy a Brompton 🎉😎 I still love mine after years of pleasure!! Arizona is a long way from Inis Meáin for sure 🤩 xx
I am revisiting some of your videos, Miriam. Like Susanna's, I find them inspiring. I must visit those places and experience them for myself! Thank you for sharing the raw beauty of Inis Meáin. Spectacular but harsh. I can see why you'd be drawn to it.
Hi Clive! Thanks for your message 😊 Inis Meáin is very beautiful, lots of raw beauty like you said. Even in the height of Summer it wouldn’t be very busy on this island which adds to its charm of course. Really nice to hear that you enjoyed it!! I miss that island 😊
Lovely video Miriam. I was born on Inishmore and living in England since a child. Have to agree with you about Inis Meain and your thoughts on solitude and so much peace, I loved my time there some 8 years ago. All the best now.
Thank you Thomas! What a great place to have been born - I intended to get to Inis Mór this Summer with the bike and do a video but it hasn’t panned out yet, maybe before the year it out I’ll make it over again! Although not as much solitude as Inis Meain it has such great features that I’d love to see again soon 🤞 Thanks so much for your message, it was really lovely to receive and read!
@@MiriamKennedy If your able to get to Inis Mor make sure you get their before winter time as the sea and the weather are not conducive for the best of time spent their ie torrential rain, real strong winds and damn cold. I agree with you Miriam that my island still has much to offer but sadly through it's need of tourists money I feel it has sold it's soul!. Understandable and respect the need to make money but for me it lost much of it's charm by such and that is why I liked Inis Meain so much eg barely any tourists and the silence and peace was golden. Both my late parents were born on Inis Mor, both were natural Irish speakers, but they stopped talking to myself and my brother in the Irish when we moved to England and sadly we both lost that tongue. Oh I got to see at last too Inishere when I went to all 3 islands 8 years ago, that was lovely too and not overwhelmed by tourists, mind as always, I went in Autumn time to especially avoid the whole world's arrival!. Keep up your great work and your travels your ace in making wonderful a story. Take care good lady of Ireland
That’s why winter or spring appeals to me Thomas 😉 It’s probably 20 years since I was last on Inis Mor and I’ve no doubt it has got a lot busier since I was last there…sold it’s soul to tourism quite likely as you said! It’s probably 30 years since I was on Inis Oir and even then I could see how more touristy it was than when I visited Inis Meain 2 years ago. Inis Mor is definitely the most popular island in the country and thankfully we have so many more beautiful wild islands to visit in the meantime that have none of the tourist traffic. I did all my education through Irish while living in Dublin going to Irish speaking schools - my father had done the same, there’s not too many of these schools but they served me well 😉 I’m glad you got back to your birthplace 8 years ago even if it was full of horse and carts driving the tourists around!! Thanks again!!
Mariam that was a breath of fresh air you are a natural making these movies. Please make more
Thanks so much Dermot - what a lovely comment!! Great that you enjoyed it, wahoooooo!! I’ll definitely do some more 😊
I'm just back from Namibia. I did a two week self drive camping safari. I hired a 4x4 with the rooftop tent. First time camping in decades. It was incredible.
Sounds like a trip of a lifetime Damian!! You might be pulled back to camping in Ireland yet 😉 Lucky you - what a trip that must have been!!
@@MiriamKennedy There's a Tipperary-based camping equipment company that sell or even rent out the rooftop box tents. Easy to secure onto a roof rack. A really great way to tour Ireland.
@@damianmcdonagh7908 doesn’t grab me for some reason - I possibly enjoy being closer to the ground and being able to access places that a car could never access 😉 I can see their merits though too!!
What a beautiful film. Best wishes from Scotland.
Aww thanks!! A lovely spot - brings back nice memories 😉
Travel safe👍🏻💪 thanks for sharing the nice brompton trip with us😊
Hi Kenny - thanks for joining me on this Brompton trip 🤗 Thanks for your message 👍
Thank you for sharing your adventure 😊
Thank you Bruna for watching my little adventure! Nice to hear from you 😊
Ace. Thanks Miriam.
Cheers Paul!! 😊
Both you and Susanna have moved me enough to get out cycling again after 50 years. Its not always the people that do the most get you, it's the gentle style, and love the videos are made with, get me. Ireland seems an eternal place to cycle, so much to see. It might be a little late now to get back there (fishing trips) on a bike, however if I can get fit again, you never know? Huge best wishes to you. Richard.
Thank you Richard! I hope you’re enjoying being back on the bike again and maybe you’ll make it over here cycling and fishing 🤞 I’m sure you have wonderful places to cycle and fish close to home anyway 😉 Your message has given me enough of a push to get out this morning, I’ve been dithering here but it’s dry this morning and it’s forecasted to rain all day tomorrow so I’m going for a fresh air fix. A friend is having me over for lunch so it’s already sounding like a good day. Wishing you well for today and your cycling trips in the near future 😎 Thanks for the morning smile!
Hi Miriam,
I am about to buy a brompton and your videos are such an inspiration for camping with it. Thanks. :)
Hi Andrew! Wishing you the best with your new purchase, may you have many great years together 🤩 Wonderful to hear you’ve enjoyed the videos, that’s so lovely to hear! Thanks so much 😊 Mine is mainly used for short commutes but it can certainly handle these longer trips with ease, I hope you enjoy yours!! 🤞
Hi Miriam , what a really nice and inspiring video...thank you very much. Looking forward to follow more of your adventures on brompton
Thanks very much Fernando - lovely to hear that you enjoyed this trip to Inis Meáin on the Brompton!! It’s a beautiful spot - thanks for watching and your message I appreciate it! 👍

As a Romani Irishman plus Irish husband of 40 years standing, living abroad together for years now, just wanted to say a big Thank You to you! I suppose those of us out there on the interwebs rarely get to know who follows our creations and why. But I have to tell you that videos like yours, your wonderful voice, and our images of our native land all combine to touch our hearts deeply. You'd probably never realize how much.
As we float during our year between Spain and Siam, we feel deeply connected to Ireland. Video has a strange strange power. Magical, perhaps even more than any other medium.
Thank you.
If you're ever passing by Poniente Beach in Valencian Country or along the Gulf of Siam, give us a shout and stop by.
Go raibh míle maith agat.
That’s so lovely - it’s so fantastic to hear these little captures have any appeal, it’s just gorgeous to hear 😍 I wish you both well as you float through your year…how wonderful! I agree that its powerful what can be conveyed through video, I love that - and our lovely country provides so much jaw dropping scenery and feel…I love it!! I’m looking forward to getting back out again in a few weeks with the camera again hopefully - it’s giving me something to dream of 😊 Thanks so much again for your lovely message, you’ve made me smile a lot!!! 🌻
Mirian Has moved onto 4k footage. Love it. And that dog melted my heart.

Hi Miriam, i found your channel via Susanna Thorntons wonderful channel - loved your adventure. Never been to Ireland but i love wild and wind blown so it seems my kinda place - all the best to you and your adventures
Hi Marty! Thanks for watching this video and your lovely message 😊 We’ve certainly no shortage of wild and wind blown places for you to visit should you take the plunge! Inis Meáin is such a wonderful island, a great memory to have of my little trip. Susanna was the inspiration for this trip and many other trips since then on my Brompton 😉 Like you I love her adventures too!!

Hi Paul! Very glad you came across this video and enjoyed it - hopefully some of my other little trips will appeal to you too 🤞 Thanks for your message!!
Inspiring! I am looking for a Brompton and ran into your post. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks very much Alan! I hope you find a Brompton and that you get as much pleasure from it as I do from mine 😊 So versatile, reliable and fun to cycle! Thanks very much for your message 👍
Hi
Enjoyed your video
I have 2 Bromptons one over 20 years old and My latest addition p line
I cycle tour but don’t like camping
I have a bespoke touring bike which I love
I commute on my Brompton and around town
The islands look lovely
I like quiet and desolate
The dog you stroked was gorgeous and looked elderly
I have subscribed to you
Hi Helen - great to hear you enjoyed the video and thanks for subscribing, very nice of you! You’ve certainly been bitten by the Brompton and touring bug, unlike your experience I was bitten by the camping bug too - it’s one of life’s great pleasures for me for some reason 🤷♀️ That dog was so lovely - a big star on this video!! Thanks again for your message, I greatly appreciate it 👍
Miriam, I don’t know what you do in the other world but in this one you’re a wonderful counsellor. Big thanks 👍
Cheers Tony! Thanks for your message - I work as a Project Manager in a Medicine and Health Sciences University 😉 I need regular trips out in my tent to keep my head above water, it seems to work for me anyway! Thanks so much for watching this little trip - I really appreciate it! 👍

Thanks for a lovely film. I loved the camera-work. And yes, Susanna Thornton is an easy lady to like and to admire, isn't she?
Thank you! She certainly is - an inspiring woman for sure 😍 Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed this one 😎

Thanks very much Seamus! Delighted that you enjoyed it 😊
I enjoyed the photography
Thanks Eugene - glad you enjoyed it. It’s a beautiful spot and I got lucky with some blue skies and good visibility to capture some of the sights. Wish I had longer there to capture some more 😎
Hi Miriam, thanks for sharing your travels. I found your channel after watching Susanna Thornton's videos, I found hers after watching Dave Bensons "Old bloke on a bike" channel. The three of you have a similar approach, slow and relaxed cycling through beautiful places. All are very different to Australia which makes them even more interesting. Thanks again.
Hi GP - thanks for taking the time to watch some of my travels!! Fun to hear how you came across these videos and the web of connections that arise in the world of RUclips 😊Delighted you've enjoyed some of the landscape in Ireland, very different from Australia as you said. I spent a year in Australia in 1999 - working in Sydney for 6 months and travelling for the remainder. Such a wonderful year which nurtured the seed of adventure for sure! Enjoy that hot weather....we're all jealous over here right now!! 😉
38 c for the next two days, I would be happy to swap places. Glenn

Hi 👋🏻 I have just had a recommendation to watch your adventures as a fellow solo wild camper ☺️ your videos are beautiful and I love the bike, what a way to travel, very inspiring and 0 carbon footprints 👣 🙌🏻 I look forward to catching up on them all after finding you. Best wishes from a busy nature loving woman in the Peak District, UK, Sarah ❤

@@MiriamKennedy great! Carry on cycling 🚴♀️ happy camping Miriam ☺️
Hi Miriam such a lovely video which left me wanting it to be longer, any ways not so alone you took us all along with you, big thanks x!
Thanks very much!! I had a lot more footage and I probably could have made it a bit longer - it’s a balancing act that I haven’t been really good at. The pieces I talked on were very long but I did’t want to drop those sections but I could have added more landscape for sure. So many people don’t watch the whole thing and you lose them after a few mins - but thanks for the feedback, it’s helpful for me to receive!
That's great, heading for Inis Meáin this week myself for a cycle. But nice to see that you came down from Dublin with the bike on the train. I have often thought about going Galway to Dublin as I want to cycle around Howth for the day, maybe I will this summer.
Thanks Stephen - lucky you heading to Inis Meáin this week! Yes, putting the bike on the train is very handy and even the bus (for a fold up bike!) I hope you make your trip to Howth with the bike - sounds like a nice day out! I’m hoping to get over to the West again in a few weeks with the camera and bike and see what adventures I can get up to and capture some more of the lovely sights. Thanks for watching and your message, I really appreciate it 👍
Hello again 👋 I enjoy your videos so much ! I really think travelling with a Brompton is a great alternative and you know what ? I just bought one for my wife (but it’s me who is using it more frequently 😂) - definetely I also will do some tours with the Brompton in the future ! I am a frequent traveller world wide, using different methods of transportation - I just returned from a 2 months trip to Greece with my small camper van. But I also backpacked a lot. Sure you will see some Brompton videos soon on my channel - thanks again for sharing your adventures and inspiring me again 🙏
That’s great to hear William - you’ll have great fun on some Brompton adventures! It’ll be good to see where yours ends up 😊 You may need to have two Bromptons in the family at some stage 😂
Great video love inis meain was there a few years ago hoping to go back there again & spend some time there
Hi Peter - I love Inis Meáin too 👍 Very beautiful island to spend some time. I’d love to spend longer than a flying visit like I did on this trip, it deserves more time to really soak in that landscape! Such a great place…glad you enjoyed the video 😊
Hi Miriam, just got to it today! And I agree with all the positive comments, you’ve put love and commitment and a genuine desire to share magic with the rest of us, so glad that you’ve found such a great supportive community! The fact that you’re solo on these trips adds to the feeling of viewers it’s just you and them and the beauty! A special thanks from me! Ml x
Cheers Michael! It was a great little adventure - delighted you enjoyed it and thanks for your positive feedback on it! The aul Brompton bike went down with well the RUclips algorithm, it’s gone nuts!! Thanks for watching and getting in touch xx
Ahhh, what a lovely video! I'm going to show this to my girlfriend, soon; I was just talking to her earlier about how I'd like to get a Brompton, hahah. You have a new subscriber! Greetings from South West England.
Thanks very much Jivecat - I love my Brompton, so I’d happily recommend them, always a fun bike to cycle as well as being very practical 😎 Hopefully you’ll get one at some stage 🤞 Thanks for watching and your lovely message!!
Beautiful Island I never knew about. I really need to start exploring the south! Great film as always.
I'm on a mission to get more of you film makers from the north to come down south 😊 Ah no....the west coast keeps inspiring me to explore it anyway. I was up your neck of the woods the past two weekends in the Mournes which I love. I had the misfortune of losing my sleeping bag in crazy gusts after setting the tent up on Lamagan - (minus 3 with no sleeping bag, was a new one to experience!!) Great to hear you enjoyed thus one of Inis Meain - such a special spot!! Thanks!!
@@MiriamKennedy It is to my shame I rarely go south to explore, hopeful this year will change that. Lamagan is barren! Minus 3 and no sleeping bag must have been brutal! I did a wee hammock camp video below lamagan in Annalong wood a few years a go and was very sheltered.
@@RuggedTrack I’ve walked by the wood and seen people camping a few times alright. I’ll check out your video - such a nice spot!!
Nice drone shots Miriam. The Brompton certainly is a versatile bike for travelling but I'd probably need to get a smaller chainring up front and bigger cassette for the steep hills.
Thanks Glenn - the Brompton works for me, it’s my only bike and I haven’t done too much touring to get really disheartened with the gearing yet 😉 For steep hills, yes it would be quite a pain! Glad you enjoyed the drone shots 👍
Great video! My RUclips feed is basically Irish wild campers now. Lol.
Cheers Phil! Glad you enjoyed the video - nice to be included in your RUclips feed 🤩 Plenty of great Irish Wild Campers to choose from!!
I love Susanna Thornton! I think watching her videos is why your channel popped up in my RUclips feed. I'm glad it did because I enjoyed your wild camping trip very much. Thank you for showing me a part of the world I've never heard of let alone been to (I live in the U.S.) and doing it by speed of Brompton!
Susanna is a popular woman and it seems the RUclips Algorithm has dropped me into the feed of many of her subscribers! That’s great for me - I had a very modest number of subscribers before the Brompton video - mad how it works! I’m glad you enjoyed your little short visit to the Aran Islands and Inis Meáin specifically, the islands of Ireland are so lovely to visit - there’s something about an island that adds to that feeling of remoteness and feeling you’re such a long way from home! I’m glad you came along for the visit and that you liked what you saw 🤗 Thanks for getting in touch!!
Hi it’s so nice to watch another female on a Brompton. - as I have been watching Susanna Thornton videos and your vid popped up. At 74 I might be new to cycling plus on a Brompton and only leisurely riding, but watching all the great adventures by female Brompton riders is encouraging and a joy to watch. I am excited… Thank you
Hi! Thank you so much for watching this video and great to hear that you enjoyed it. At 74, I’m very impressed that you’re getting out your Brompton - now that inspires me! I’m also cycling at a very leisurely pace and taking my time and taking lots of pleasure in my Brompton. It’s wonderful to hear that you watched this video and enjoyed it, I’m planning another trip soon with the Brompton and camera gear, the weather is looking really nice this weekend but it’s a bank holiday weekend here and I’m a bit worried the roads might be very busy. I might still go for it!! 😊 Thanks again for watching and your message x
Very nice film of Ireland touring on your Brompton while wild camping. I have never toured in Ireland and only recently had a business trip to Northern Ireland. So I am inspired to cycle tour and discover some of the wonderful locations you and other cyclists have shown on RUclips. I only live in south-east England so it is not too far, so maybe this summer!
Hi Ian - thanks for your lovely message! 😊 Great to hear you’re now interested to cycle tour and discover some more of Ireland. I hope you get to do it this Summer and of course that the weather works for your trip!🤞Lovely to hear from you, thanks!
So pleased another SE Londoner is thinking of Wild Camping in Ireland. I would love to go with someone as I'm a late starter at long distance cycling and novice at wild camping.......looking into joining a Club.
@@CherDele you’ll be well able for it 😉
I love the relaxed pace that both you and Susanna set in your videos. I've been Brompton 'bikepacking' for a few years now. The versatility you get is truly liberating... get a bus or a train somewhere then cycle home over a couple of days. I have to thank Susanna for inspiring me to take my time and not rush, its not a race, I can stop, have a coffee and watch the world go by...
Hi - lovely to hear from you! Yep it’s such a great way to travel and I like that idea of taking my time a bit more and having only a very rough schedule of where I’d like to get to. I look forward to doing a little more and finding my rhythm a bit more with travelling for multi day adventures with the bike. Thanks so much for your comment and wishing you the best for your future travels!! Thanks 🤗
Wow your video pop up on my screen and I like it 💕😊
Glad to see u and want to see more & more, dear friend 👍
Thanks very much! Really glad you enjoyed watching the video, that’s so good to hear 🤗
Miriam, only getting around to watching this now. What a lovely film. Well done - and in November too. I camped behind the beach on Inis Meáin a few summers ago. I camped and cycled on Inis Mór this summer (after our walk) - its the best way to see the west of Ireland. Aongus
Hi Aongus, lovely to hear from you! Cheers for watching the video and your encouragement, thanks a million! It was really mild temperatures for November in fairness and I probably got the last bit of decent weather before all these storms arrived! I had intended to camp at the beach (near the airstrip) but I thought again as the wind was looking to be a bit strong when so exposed. I hadn’t made it to Cathaoir Synge on my first visit and had no idea if I’d find a suitable spot to pitch but it worked out well! I even managed to get the tent up before the rain arrived. I’ll definitely make a plan to visit Inis Mór with the tent, it’s been a good few years since I was last there. Lucky you for getting to camp there this Summer! I know you’re a fan of our lovely islands too - we’re so lucky!! 😊
Very cool trip! I'm also thinking of going on a bit of a trip on my foldable bike.
Thank you! I hope you go for it - the fold up bikes are a great way to travel!! Thanks for watching and your message 😊
Love your voice.
Thanks very much Kevin 🤩
Up to 24hours ago I didn't even know about this channel, now I'm binge watching, and loving the way your videos portray our amazing island (and it's islands!)
You are so modest and laid back but let your superb videography speak for itself, super, super, super.
Only question now is, which of your videos next 🤔
Get thee to Kellys Lough!! 😂 Delighted you are enjoying them - it truly makes it all worthwhile for me to be posting videos and that anyone watches them let alone enjoys them 😎 Or another one ‘Wild Camping in Wicklow’ if you haven’t watched that one yet 🤭
Wow! The last time I was there was in the 1980's! Too long ago! I never thought of cycling there though as I don't recall the roads being tarred. I used to wander around the western end of the island for days. Happy memories. Thanks
Hi Dawn - they sound like happy memories alright!! I really enjoyed exploring the Western side of the island too - very wild and plenty of solitude still to this day. It was nice to do something different and bring my bike along to the island, bike hire is quite common on all the Aran islands these days but I’m not sure how common it would be in November when I visited 😉 Such a wonderful island to visit, I loved it!! Thanks for your message 👍
Absolutely beautiful, what a pleasure just listening to you. Gorgeous accent. Such a radiant smile, had a smile on my own face the whole time. Beautiful scenery there by the ocean. I feel like I've been to the sauna after just watching this, so relaxing. Thanks for sharing your energy and taking us along.
Hi MariusOps - you're very welcome and thank you for joining me on the little Brompton adventure! It was a fabulous place to visit and its great that for some reason RUclips has pushed it out to such a big audience, I'm delighted so many people have watched it and apparently enjoyed it!! Thanks for your lovely comment, I really appreciate it! 🙂
What wonderful scenery.
I've watched Susanna's videos and found them very uplifting. You get a sense of the beauty all around us from a strong but gentle woman. You seem to be from the same mould.
I hope you have more adventures with your Brompton.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks very much Colin - delighted you enjoyed the video! Yep, Susanna’s videos have been very inspiring for me too, always lovely to come another person that you resonate with. Definitely hope to get out again with the Brompton and show some more of Ireland off 😎 Thanks for your message!!
Ireland is beautiful. Makes me wish I'd been able to get there during my European ramble.
Hi Michael - Ireland is indeed very beautiful, I’m very fortunate to have it as my home. Hopefully you will have the means and opportunity to make a visit in the future 🤞 Until then - all of us Irish RUclipsrs will keep you dreaming and showing our lovely country off! Thanks for watching the video and saying hello 👍
Hi, you may not see this comment but just to say I have just discovered your channel and been binge watching. Wonderful inspiring videos. We have a beautiful country. Thanks for showing it off so well 😊.
Hi Annie - I’ve seen your comment 😍 Thanks so much for your lovely message! We really do have a beautiful country, how blessed are we!! Cheers for watching some of these videos - that’s lovely encouragement for me to hear 😎 Thanks again!!
Hi from Canada! Thanks for this lovely video. I'd never considered wild camping in Ireland, but after watching your beautiful footage I think it's time to pack my Brompton and give it a go.
Hi Rob! Thanks for your lovely message 🙂 We're spoilt for great places to wild camp over here, especially on the west coast and all our islands. I hope you do pack your Brompton and give it a go! Thanks again!

Wonderful Miriam , your video appeared in my feed (I think that’s the term) after I seen a couple of Susanna’s videos.... I’d love to visit the Aran islands one day ....subscribed 🤙
Thanks very much David! Glad you enjoyed the video - I hope you get to visit the Aran Islands 🤞 All three Aran Islands are well worth a visit, they all offer something a little different! Thanks very much for watching, nice to hear from you! 😊
Just lovely. I'm motorbike camping mostly but love the simple message of peace and being at one with nature whatever the Irish weather throws at you. Ride on!
Thanks stimgaze! We get such bad press about our weather in Ireland but in fairness we have it pretty good!! Glad you enjoyed the video - a really enjoyable little trip with lots of peace 😎
What a delightful film Miriam, beautifully shot and put together - I love the colours of Ireland. Funny you mentioned Susanna Thornton - there are quite a lot of us who have been inspired by her to strap a load of camping gear on to our Bromptons and set off for a small adventure! I hope you do more films, thank you for sharing this one with us 🙂
Hi Pootling Along - thanks for your lovely message! Yep, I can imagine that Susanna has inspired a few of us to get out and about with a tent on our Bromptons! Loads of her supporters seem to have come across my little video which is lovely! The colours in Ireland are lovely - Autumnal for the most part right now but even our grey misty days are beautiful! Thanks for watching the video and getting in touch, I appreciate it 🙂
Dia dhuit, a Miriam
I just watched your video from the comfort of my bath, as the snow piles up outside! What a beautiful escape to a fantastic corner of the world. Fair play to you for braving the elements! It definitely paid off... Great footage. Keep them coming... is go néiri an bóthar leat!
The comment that has given me the biggest laugh to date 🏆 The bath and snow creating a lovely scene! It was such a great place to visit and although it rained for 16 hours straight at least I was spared a soaking on my cycle 👍 It was a wonderful little adventure and I’ll have this video to remind me of it should I ever forget! Thanks so much for your message - go raibh míle maith agat!! 👏
Loved this! 'I stayed in a B&B dunno what I was thinkin' haha. Great camera work, when I saw where you set up camp it literally took my breath away. 😍
Cheers Sophie!! 😂 The aul views from a tent are hard to beat ay!! I struck gold with that camping spot alright - I hadn’t made it to that part of the island when I’d visited before so I couldn’t believe my luck that I found a spot to pitch and that it was so magnificent 😊 A very special little trip, cheers for your message 👍
Very enjoyable Miriam. Thank you for taking the time and for sharing. I walked in the Burren in September and saw the Islands - I’d love to visit, thanks for inspiring. 🙏🏼🌱
Thanks Sebastian! A pleasure to record this little video to be able to remember this little adventure. Thanks so much for watching it and I hope you get to visit the Aran Islands some day - they really are magnificent! 😊
Great drone footage
Happy New year my friend
Greetings from Belgian bushcrafter
Hi Belgian Bushcrafter! Thanks for watching the video - the drone really helps show off some the areas I visit for sure, I’m still such a novice with it but always delighted when some of the footage works!! Happy New Year to you too, may you have plenty of adventures in 2022!
Magic as always Miriam, Thank you for sharing your adventure to Inis Meáin with us. 🙂
Ah thanks Elizabeth - thank you for watching it!! Our islands are very lovely as you well know - very easy to show them off. It was a great little trip, looking forward to another island adventure before long 🤗
OMG those crashing waves were mesmerizing at 6:20. I would've stayed put for hours. I was right there with you eating that egg sandwich. Beautiful video and keep up the content. I've now added you to my subscribers list, right alongside Susanna. From Vancouver
Hi Harry - those crashing waves were mesmerising for sure, I was camped about 100m from them and I had walked in that direction and spotted the cliffs and ran back to the tent to get my camera. I was so lucky as a half hour later the rain arrived and the next morning the tide was out so it wasn’t as dramatic at that point. While in the tent I could hear and feel the power of those crashing waves. It was like a powerful thunder rumble while I lay in the tent - not only could I hear it, I could feel it too. It was also dark within a half an hour of me seeing those waves - their sound carried though for me to keep feeling their power!! Wonderful to hear that the video was watched in Vancouver, the power of RUclips!! Nice to be considered in a similar category to Susanna 😉 Thanks!!
That was great Miriam, thank you. I camp quite regularily on Inis Mór, but you have put the hunger on me to go Inis Meain. I do like Bromptons & it has been on the list for some time.
Thanks Colman! Good to hear that you’re a regular camper on Inis Mór, it’s been far too long since I was last there so I’ll definitely make it back with the tent soon enough 😉 I used to have a Brompton on the wish list for a long time too - I was always eyeing them up when I’d spot one. Eventually I treated myself and got one about 10 years ago. Unfortunately my first Brompton was stolen at the start of COVID lockdown - I had gone for a hike in the Dublin Mountains one morning before work at about 7:30am and I came back to my car and the window was smashed and the opportunistic thieves struck gold by checking my boot and finding the Brompton. It wasn’t in sight but they hit the jackpot - I was devastated, I loved that bike so much as it had brought me years of pleasure. I replaced it then a few months later - I used it commuting to work but I’m working from home now so I’ve been hardly using it. I hope you get yourself one!! They are so much fun to cycle and such a great piece of engineering!! 🤗
Wonderful video. It just makes me want to go and leave the world behind. Thank you Miriam.
Thanks Havatselet - glad you enjoyed the video! Inis Meáin is certainly a very special place and I’m delighted you got to see it!! Thanks again 😎
Off on Wednesday to Portland to collect my first Brompton. Thanks for sharing your trip. Inspiring.
Oh lucky you Richard!! What a wonderful gift to be giving yourself - I hope you get as much pleasure from it as I do from mine! I’m on my second one - my first one was stolen from the boot of my car having had it over 10 years, opportunistic thieves that couldn’t see the bike struck gold by breaking into my car and finding it. I was devastated, amazing how attached you can get to some metal. I find it such a fun bike to cycle - you’ll get so much positive attention too, so many people stop me in the supermarket etc to comment on it. I wish you the very best of luck with yours!! Thanks for watching the video and saying hello, I really appreciate it 👍
Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺 great video … keep them coming … we love touring on our Bromptons 👍
Thanks Craig!! Great to hear of some more Brompton fans 🙂 You have some nice weather for Brompton touring I'm sure. No doubt I'll get out some more on the Brompton to show a bit more of Ireland off as I had a great time on this adventure 👍
Very good bicycle adventure touring good camping night sleeping and self cooking very very good
Thanks very much Shaukat - it was a really enjoyable trip and I was very lucky to find a place to pitch my tent near that lookout! Delighted you enjoyed it and thanks for letting me know 😎
God bless you and may all of your journeys on your little bike be safe ones...Love to be there to share such an experience...Love...Your wild colonial boy...What beautiful places you have...cheers.
Thanks very much! Really glad you enjoyed the video - it was a wonderful little trip! Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed it 🙂
Life affirming - wonderful humility and pace - not seen Susanna's video yet, but you have a wonderful natural gift in conveying a sense of place and the moment.
What a lovely thing to say! Thanks so much Neville - I just love going out with my tent and sometimes creating a little video of it, mostly for me to remember it by. I’ve just started opening my mouth in my last few videos so I’m still a little weird about it. I love the silence of these trips yet when I go to speak on these videos I tend to go on and on!! Thanks so much for your lovely comment I really appreciate it 🙂
Just come across your video and it was lovely. I too follow Susanna's videos (and others) and am being inspired by her (and their) examples to do likewise. And oh yes! The empty spaces. That can be cathartic too and a tonic from the stresses of modern life.
I shall try to continue to follow your videos.
Thanks, Miriam!
You’re very welcome Muddy283 - glad you enjoyed the video! Something very special about finding yourself alone in solitude with nature - a lovely tonic as you said. Great you find yourself inspired by various RUclips creators - it’s a great medium for inspiration for sure!! I love that excitement or knowing that comes with being inspired!! Thanks for your lovely message 🙂
Hoping for more videos to come.
Hi! I’ve another hiking video coming soon 😊
Hi Miriam, I’ve a Brompton & tent, did the Westport greenway too. Would be great if there was an Irish Brompton camping group! Great video! C
Hi C C - thanks for letting me know you enjoyed the video! A Brompton and tent are great assets to have ay, the Westport Greenway is so lovely too 👍 Enjoy your trips on your Brompton, solo trips are great fun until that Brompton camping group is formed!! 😉
Susanna is so inspiring! I love her videos. Every time I watch them it makes me want to get out on my Brompton. =)
I love your video too. Such lovely scenery.
Hi Keeley - it’s a beautiful spot for sure, thanks for watching the video and getting in touch! Susanna definitely has a magic touch with her film making, I agree 🙂
Brutally beautiful scenery.. Walls have been around forever. 8 mins in, love to hear the secret history of.. spectacular!!
If walls could talk! It really is a spectacular spot John - very glad you enjoyed the little visit to Inis Meáin 😊 I’d love to spend a lot longer there to fully immerse myself in its coastline and wildness. Thanks for your message!!
@@MiriamKennedy I'm not yet familiar with your past uploads but on this one alone you deserve an avalanche of views and subs. You've done a magnificent job portraying the magic of solitude.
Cheers John! That avalanche has begun to happen since I posted this video. I’ve been posting videos for just over a year of wild camping and hiking adventures. The audience grew very slowly but in one week since posting this video the RUclips algorithm has begun to spit the video out far and wide. I never spoke in my videos until my last 3 videos as I never had any desire to. Then not too long ago I decided to challenge myself and speak…it felt bizarre as the videos were always for me, to remind me of the special feeling I have on these trips and to capture some views. Over time I improved at making videos by just doing it and learning from others - I’m still very much winging it though!!
I do like videos with no speaking and my biggest desire would be to try capture the feeling and sights without my voice rudely interrupting nature’s true voice! At the same time, speaking has allowed me to become a bit more human rather than this person who walks by the camera! I’m delighted with what has happened in the last week - thrilled to be honest! So that’s the back story 🙂
@@MiriamKennedy 👍👍👍
Yes, with these videos of Susanna began my watching adventures of bicycle vlogs! And I like your video too. I stay tuned.
Thanks Martina - Susanna’s videos are really lovely, I agree! I’ll do another bike vlog again for sure 🤗 Thanks for your message!!

Thanks very much Liz - it’s a beautiful part of the country for sure! I’m really not that brave, I’ve just been bitten by the bug of adventure that comes with sleeping wild.
