The latest parkrun in the world! Running Inis Meáin with a WHOLE LOAD of parkrun Tourists!

- Before we set off for our Irish parkrun trip, a group of parkrunners were already busy planning a trip to Ireland. To one of Ireland's newest parkruns. A remote, island parkrun and with a start time of 11am - the latest parkrun in the world!
There are several groups of tourists that tour together, usually these are arranged in facebook groups. There are Cow Fests and other collections of touring parkrunners and this particular trip was arranged by Andy who goes by 'Airey Airways' when arranging trips.
We just got the ferry with these guys, but Andy had arranged return coaches from Dublin which set off at some ungodly hour to get a very large group of parkrun tourists to Inis Meáin. Inis Meáin (or Inishmaan) is the middle of the three main Aran Islands which sit in Galway Bay. The island is around 4 km by 2.5 km and has a population of around 170. The ferry from Doolin Pier takes around 25 minutes. This particular ferry was chartered for this trip but ferries do run at other times but not specifically one on a Saturday morning that would get you there in time for the 11am parkrun start.
The walk from Inis Meáin Pier to the parkrun start is 2 km and there are toilets and bag storage at the parkrun start/finish. This is usually a very small parkrun with a warm welcome in this unique and remote location. A visit to Inis Meáin parkrun is definitely an experience!

What a great adventure you two have been on lately. That ferry crossing is not for the faint-hearted, and the return on a full-stomach could be a problem on a rougher day. Your daughter seems to take everything in her stride. You remind me that I still need an 'I' for my Alphabeteer challenge.
Yes Poppy is literally the best travel buddy! She's such a happy child and up for everything. I am very lucky ❤️

Oh my goodness the first 15 minutes was so much fun and just hilarious (for those not throwing up!). But then even I was feeling 🤢 by the end 🤣 That was one rough ferry crossing!

Nick I absolutely love this video ! I know this information is too little too late, but as I do get motion sickness, I have learnt that to try and combat it you need to always face forward, and to roll with the waves like a natural procession of walking forward, your body sways left your body sways right. ! But sometimes you just need a sick bag😂😂

Wow cool adventure. I am surprised they didn't preemptively hand out lifesaver jackets on the rough journey out there. I could totally see who was enjoying the bumpy ride and who wasn't. I was curious, who made those stone walls on the island? They look like property divisions, is that recent or from long ago? I also thought of you guys this morning -- at my local park as I cleared up some plastic bottles... I hate it because the wind blows the bottles into the river and eventually they wind up in the lake. As always, love watching yours and Poppy's adventures.

Thanks 😊 to be honest I only loved the first 15 minutes... I made sure I had chewing gum which helps me not feel sick but for the last 5 minutes I was really ready to be there!!! 🤦🏻♀️🤣

I went to Thorp park last week and that ferry crossing was more fun than any of the rides there! Great capture of an amazing day. Hats off to everyone that made it so special; the event team, the locals cheering everyone on, the pub crew, the ferry staff and Andy A and his band of helpers for the great organisation.
We said at the time that it was better than a theme park ride! 😃😃😃
Loved this little island ParkRun! So sorry for those who were feeling seasick on the trip. I'm on the "Choppy for Poppy" team. I like the bumps! I was impressed how brave you are with cows when they're behind those stone walls! Amazing place!
It's an awesome island! 😃 I felt so bad for those who were throwing up too because then they had to go and run 5km and they still had to get the ferry back! 😳
