Nicola Runs
Великобритания
Добавлен 3 апр 2021
Welcome to Nicola Runs! Exploring the world one run, or race, at a time!
I'm Nicola Forwood, I love running and being outside. From parkrun to 100 milers, I love it all! From track to trail I want to share with you as many types of race format as I can. It's great to know there are so many incredible places to run, and so many different types of races to try. I've over ten years experience podcasting about parkrun and am proud to be one of the first 100 parkrunners in the world to join the 500 club.
I have been run-streaking (running every day) for over 5 years. Run-streaking helped me stay sane after my 38 year old husband died of a brain tumour. His death left me a widow, at 31, and single parent to our 2 year old Poppy.
I’m always taking on crazy running challenges because, unless you push yourself, you will never find out what you are capable of! Come with me, and let's explore parkrunworld and beyond, because life is short and the world is big!

Extra parkrunday - New Year's Day Running Cross Flatts parkrun with a Hangover on a Few Hours Sleep!
New Year's Day parkrun is always a struggle as Poppy and I are always partying until the early hours. Poppy chose to stay in bed but I dragged myself out, with my injured foot, to start my year in the best way possible!

Running Lincoln parkrun - Playing on the Zipwire, Counting Bridges & the Resident Heron!
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.19 часов назад
For the last parkrun in 2024 I headed to Lincoln parkrun. A three lapper on tarmac in Boultham Park (pronounced 'BOOTam'). With so many bridges, a resident heron, a zipwire (even if it is a bit slow) and the fantastic indoor bowling centre then this is a brilliant parkrun to visit! Part of the charm of Lincoln parkrun is definitely the team. Wonderfully friendly and reason enough to visit just ...
Is This The UK's Hardest parkrun? Running Great Yarmouth North Beach parkrun on Christmas Day.
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.14 дней назад
We were staying in Norfolk for Christmas and there was only one parkrun we wanted to go to... Great Yarmouth North Beach parkrun! I have freedom run the course before and so know how tough it is but there is nothing like running the course on an actual parkrunday. Typically this is a very small parkrun, probably because you have to love a real challenge to want to run here regularly. In the pas...
Running Melton Mowbray parkrun at Christmas Time and Looking for Vegetarian Pork Pies!

One of the brilliant things about parkrun is the friends you make! I love that Poppy has her own parkrun tourist friends and I love the parkruns that I get to spend with mine... More often than not we are belly laughing the entire time which is priceless! Team Woods picked Melton Mowbray parkrun as they have done lots in this area as it's closer to home for them, being the event team at Brierle...
Running Pontefract parkrun. p-Index Chasing in Winter Sunshine and the Biggest Chip Butty!
Просмотров 2 тыс.21 день назад
Commitments in December meant I needed to be closer to home so I looked to parkrun goals I could still work on. I decided to work on increasing my p-index to 13 with my 13th run at Pontefract parkrun. I love this parkrun having been here sporadically over the last decade and having run at their 3rd event back in 2011. We were so lucky to run on such a beautiful morning and it was lovely to see ...
Running Cross Flatts parkrun with Sciatica - parkrun Therapy on the Most Beautiful Morning!

I found it really hard to decide where to parkrun on this particular Saturday. I somehow ended up at Cross Flatts parkrun... I think I was driving to Middleton Woods parkrun and remembered that this parkrun was a little closer and decided to revisit. I am so thankful that I did as it was exactly what I needed. When I'm feeling sad then there's nowhere I would rather be. parkrun is just fantasti...
Crewing God's Own Backyard Ultra (GOBYU) after Running Woodhouse Moor parkrun.
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Месяц назад
God's Own Backyard Ultra is held in Yorkshire (God's own country) at Hunters Greave in Kirkstall, Leeds. My wonderful friend Eleanor has taken part in every GOBYU... I'm pretty sure it's her favourite race! She asked me to crew her for this race, and after crewing her at the inaugural event (ruclips.net/video/jExMQXCXAR4/видео.html), I returned to help her see how far she could push herself. Co...
Hunting for a parkrun in Storm Bert. Half the UK Events Cancelled! Running Cheadle Hulme parkrun.
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.Месяц назад
The plan was to run Lancaster parkrun and so we stayed over in Lancaster on Friday night. The weather forecast was awful, with Storm Bert due to hit early Saturday morning. Friday night the team at Lancaster parkrun cancelled their event. There were a few options close enough for us to get to Saturday morning but staying in Lancaster was risky because if those nearby events cancelled then we wo...
700 PARKRUNS! Running my 700th parkrun at Potternewton on my 17th parkrun birthday!
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.Месяц назад
The stars aligned and I got to run my 700th parkrun on the week of my 17th parkrun birthday! I wanted to head to a parkrun close to home but one that wasn't too busy and so I chose the beautiful but very hilly Potternewton parkrun. It was such a lovely morning and great to have a chance to look back and have a moment of gratitude for the hard times parkrun has helped me get through, and to than...
Is this the Last Ever Guy Fawkes 10? Running the Birstwith Brute, Swincliffe Swine & For Fawkes Sake
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.2 месяца назад
The Guy Fawkes 10 was always one of my favourite races. Ten miles of brutal hills in beautiful countryside rewarded with the biggest bag of chocolate... What could be better? Unfortunately this race always clashes with Poppy's birthday weekend so I've not had the chance to run it for absolutely years! Luckily Poppy was at a friend's birthday party and I could make it to, what looks like the las...
The parkrun With Everything-Sedgefield parkrun - Dragons, Castles, Temples. This parkrun has it all!
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.2 месяца назад
We got up super early so that we would have time to check out a new parkrun on our way from Dunbar to Leeds. Sedgefield parkrun lies just off the A1 so location wise it was perfect and being one of the older parkruns then a visit felt somewhat overdue! I'm not going to lie, this parkrun blew me away! In some small part this is due to a preconceived notion that there wasn't a lot to see at this ...
Running the Gorgeous Crinan Canal parkrun as a Freedom Run
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.2 месяца назад
I couldn't resist the opportunity to check out one of Scotland's newest parkruns, Crinan Canal parkrun, while I was visiting the Mull of Kintyre. This gem of a parkrun is a must visit! Crinan itself is such a beautiful town and the views from this parkrun are unbelievable! A flat, fast, out-and-back with the added bonus of it being impossible to get lost! I would love to visit on parkrunday but...
Running the Yorkshire Marathon 2024 in Storm Ashley. Pacing for Northern Pacing Volunteers - 5 Hours
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.2 месяца назад
I had to pull out of this race last year due to injury so I was delighted to be at the start line with a huge pacing flag attached to my back! I absolutely love marathon pacing. I find it incredibly fun and incredibly rewarding. Storm Ashley made things interesting and this was definitely the most effort I've ever had to put into running a 5 hour marathon! Whenever there was a headwind then we ...
Celebrating 20 Years of parkrun! Running Bushy parkrun Pilgrimage on International parkrunday!
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.2 месяца назад
Poppy ran her first official parkrun on her fourth birthday. It therefore felt fitting that she would get run her Bushy parkrun Pilgrimage on the 20th birthday of parkrun. Following on from Event 1000 where over 6,000 parkrunners descended on Bushy park then we were suitably nervous that this (event 1,005) would be another event that was realistically far too big. However, we were pleasantly su...
Running a 10km Race the Day After an Ultra Marathon. Temple Newsam Track Restoration 10km Fund Run.
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.3 месяца назад
There was no way I was going to miss this race as it was for such a brilliant cause. It's not ideal to enter a 10km race the day after running parkrun and an ultra, but sometimes my love for running overrides my common-sense! The work that St. Theresa's Athletics Club, Crossgates Harriers, and other volunteers, have put into getting the track looking this good for the race was so heart-warming ...

Happy new year Nicola. Gotta say you are the cheeriest person I know even with a hangover and lack of sleep. I don't do very well with a lack of sleep and fortunately I don't drink at all . Lol. Looking forward to watching more of your runs in 2025. Cheers!
Watching this back after seeing you do the actual parkrun in 2024 is fun.
Watching this in January '25 and it could have been 2 weeks ago when so many parkruns in the Midlands and North were cancelled for ice.
❤❤❤❤
Loving the RD helpers! Dream big…..
Start them young! 😃😃😃
Happy new year to you too, Nicola. ❤
Thank you 🙏🤗😃
Ahh finally found time to sit down and watch this - lovely to remember a great parkrun day. Also glad I’m not yapping away too much in the background 🤣. Thanks for introducing Sam to WendyWorms - a new favourite! I hope 2025 brings you both a brilliant year of parkruns, baby seals and happiness x
Thanks for your wonderful company on the day 🥰 Ooh Sam has good taste! Wendy Worms take some beating! 😋 Wishing you guys a wonderful 2025 too and hopefully see you at some point somewhere else in parkrunworld 🤗😊
Nice Parkrun. And it was Windy? Well done. The track looks good. 👍. In October is also the Frankfurt Mararhon in Germany. I ran it last year. It was awesome. This year I will run the Great Manchester Run in May.
Ooh I love your running goals 😃 They'll both be awesome races! Good luck 🤞😃
@ thank you. I also wish you good luck for your common Marathons
Your poor toes!
Yeah... Not ideal 🙈🤣
This parkrun seems lovely and I think you picked a perfect time to visit it with the trees all golden but not too cold and not too hot. Thank you for sharing.
It honestly blew me away! I'm not sure why it wasn't on my radar but I hope it's now on other people's as it's spectacular 😃
Lovely light at the start!
Oh my goodness it was STUNNING! 😍😍😍
0:42 ouch! 😮 HNY Nicola!
Yeah 😭😭😭 They're just about better now although I'm still growing back one of the toenails 🙈🤣
I hope your foot is better now. It looks very sore!
Thank you, yes it's pretty much there now... Just a few toenails to grow back and I'll be good as new 🙈🤣 I had to wear walk-in boots on NYE as I was so worried that someone might stand on my foot 😳😂😂😂
Come to parkrun in Singapore!
We already have! Poppy joined the 10 club with her run there! It was awesome. Singapore was just brilliant 😃

🤣🤣🤣
Is your strategy to get all of the injuries now to insure a mishap free summer trail running season? Big brain thinking there! 🧠
Ooh... Yes! Let's go with this! I really hope this is what's happening! 🙏😂🤣
Good on you to tough it out with short sleep, injury, and hangover? The wind didn't make it easier. Cross Flatts was my 1st ever. You mentioned a Canadian Marathon. We have the Vancouver Marathon on May 04 this year.
Ooh I love Vancouver! Although May might be too soon 🙃
Have u been to old deer park
Not yet... Is it a good one? 😃
No ot sucks jk it's kind of boring it's 3 laps on grassand there's no deer but it's called old deer have u gone battersea parkrun
Aww , nice little quicky .Steady , leave it 🤣🤣😉
🤭🤣🤣🤣
Oh, I hope your foot healed quickly! Those toddlers by the podium at the beginning were too cute! Great effort on NYD!!!!❤
Weren't they just adorable! Future Run Directors in training 😃🥰 Thanks my foot is almost better 🤗
@ yes!😊
hope your foot is on the mend Watergrove for me today and another PB of 23 mins 52 coming 8th out of 48 new one for me next week been Centre Vale at Todmordon also doing Hot Toddy 10k there in March for 2nd time
Make sure you look up information about the dog statue before you go to Centre Vale! 😃 He's lovely 🐕
Aww the first timer babbers ❤❤❤❤
Too cute aren't they?! 😍😍😍
Oh your poor toes ❤
Oh god that looks tough! Imagine having that as your regular parkrun! 😅
I know right?! It's a very small parkrun usually 🤣🤣🤣
U look like u have a lot of fun. Do you watch crown my run? He makes banter parkrun vids he's jokes
No I don't have much time to watch others as I'm usually out adventuring! 🙃 Sounds like a laugh though 😃😃😃
He tried to run with nick bester but he bump into someone and flopped maybe you'll be in his challenges one day
I am sure I have seen that canal on a sailing video that I watch, but they never gave any context to where the stunning views are - truly beautiful! And I love your rock - the trees on top! Thanks for sharing.
It's a truly epic place to have a parkrun 😍😍😍😍😍
One more question please Nicola - what time of year did you do Lovstein ? I’m planning to go in winter.
We went at the beginning of May 😊
Great video Nicola! I love the mass of muddy trainers at the front door! 😂 I also love those milestone lollipop signs, they’re great! 👍🏼
Thanks 😃 Ooh yay I loved the shoes too! There was something really lovely about all the colours or something! I'm also in love with the lollipop signs, they're great for milestone celebrations! Obviously my 500 was ages ago but I was still excited to have my photo with that lollipop! 😃😃😃
What a lovely course - and I also love a bandstand at parkrun!
They're so great aren't they! Like a central hub even when there's no band! 🙃
Another cool run Nicola! For a 1 mile loop it offered a lot of variety and all things considered it looked like the faster runners had ample space to maneuver around. I also had a different impression of what bowling would look like. Definitely not the same concept as what we have here in the US. Happy New Year and can't wait to see what running adventures you have planned. Hope your back gets better too. I've had something similar and every now and then it acts up.
Thanks, sorry to hear your back plays up too 😞 so... This is lawn bowls, we have 10 pin bowling too but you can find bowling greens in lots of parks, this is the first time I've ever seen lawn bowls indoors! You're right that Lincoln offered loads of variety! It's a great little course 😍 Happy new year to you too and here's to lots of adventures in 2025! 😃
Hi Nicola, thank you for posting your fantastic video of Lovstein Parkrun. That is now on my to do list. I plan to go on a Norwegian Coastal Cruise from Bergen, after doing their parkrun, and would appreciate a bit more info please. When you say hilly, how does it compare with the hilliest parkruns in England ? Say Queen Elizabeth Country Park, Durlston Country Park, Lanhydrock ? I assume the only way to get to Bergen from England is to fly to Oslo, then get the train ? I’m happy for you to DM me, as I’m more likely to see your reply. Thank you.
You can fly there but you'd be missing out on one of the best train journeys in the world! It's hilly... Not as bad as Durlston but definitely up there! Sounds like you'll have a fantastic trip! Enjoy 😃
@@NicolaRunsafter seeing your video, I’ll certainly look at flying into Oslo, then going on to Bergen by train.
Nicola's Hair Tier Week Twenty One - "A bit of a grey one" 4/10
This is too close to home to be funny 🤨🤔 I'm joking of course 😂😂😂
Shoes off for the cafe!!!? Not sure I'd be comfortable with that after a sweaty run!
You'll have to put your best socks on! Or have a change of shoes in the car ☺️ it's clean shoes only... I think I said no shoes but I meant no parkrun shoes 🤣
Perfect Running Video as always. And even in the Rain looks the Park Beautiful.
Awww thank you, it was a brilliant route and a great team. We loved our visit ☺️
Great vlog, brought back my memories of this parkrun. But firstly I thought you were going to say you were going bowling, secondly I thought you were going to say your trainers were missing, and thirdly, Dave loves the top you are wearing at the end 🤩
Thank you 😃 Ooh I'd have been sad if my trainers went missing 🤣 My top is the best Christmas top ever! £3 charity top find and it looks like Christmas has thrown up on me 😳😂 I love it! 😃
well done looked a nice course
Thanks, It was 😃 Especially the additional Heron! 😍
@@NicolaRuns i have got a new one on my bucket list meaning a stop over at a permier inn one i want to do is Abbey park in Leicester
Well done Nicola, haven't ran Lincoln parkrun since 2014! Cleethorpes is my home parkrun
Thanks 😊 I've probably not run Cleethorpes since 2014... We've swapped 🤣
I was stood in the pen for 30 mins absolutely drenched and shivering uncontrollably. I was honestly about 60 seconds away from going home 😂
Yeah it wasn't the best start was it, that weather?! 😱😱😱 I reckon if we can survive that then we can survive anything 🤣
I laughed so much at the zipwire section, absolutely brilliant. Yes the bowls club was brilliant, I have never been there only to the park café. Sorry for vid bombing you and I should have said Dolly or Bev or Doris. She was such an important part of the whole Lincoln parkrun experience.
Oh my goodness you must go! It's like no building I've ever been in before! The zipwire however definitely needs work 🤣🤣🤣
Wow look at that Christmas Jumper!
It was a charity find! £3 and it's like ALL of Christmas thrown onto a jumper. It both offends my eyes and delights them in equal measure 🤣🤣🤣
My mums family all come from Gorleston. I had one of the happiest summer parkruns at Gorleston Cliffs in 2022 along a beach I know from childhood. This clearly seems different and leaves me in a quandary whether to have a go with this one come this Summer!
Can you do them both? Stay for two Saturdays? 😃😃😃 They're both brilliant 🙃
Your top in the outtro looks snazzy and colourful. Roundhay in the snow yesterday was pretty cool, hearing hundreds of footsteps crunching through the frozen snow together at the start was quite something!
I was so close to going to Roundhay! But York announced so was more certain and it was their 13th birthday! 😃 And lol I love that Christmas jumper 😂
Good girl , you did great 😊
Thanks Bren 🤗
Hey Nicola, been enjoying your content for 9 months now. I'm going to do my first parkrun next Saturday, I've been running for 13 years, we all get there in the end lol :) Always look forward to your vlogs.
Oh my goodness I'm so excited for you! Please let me know how you get on! 😃 Which one are you going to go to? 🤔
@@NicolaRuns Thank you! It will more than likely by Strathclyde Park, up in Motherwell, all the speed merchants will be there lol! :D
Which is harder/hillier Lyme Park or Watergrove near Rochdale?
I'm not sure... Watergrove is my only 59:59 as there was an issue on course and we couldn't run the actual route. They are both stunning ones though aren't they?! 😍 You'd have to ask someone who has run the actual route at both I'm afraid 😣
A sneaky trip to York today I see, to avoid the cancellations. Non within a 100 miles of me, here on the west coast😂
Oh no! 100 miles is a long way! The weather is crazy 🥶🥶🥶 I was lucky with York announcing in time for me to get there safely. And then Roundhay went ahead so we were very lucky over here! 😃
I live in Bergen and I love Bergensbanen. ❤
Lucky you, it's such a stunning place 😍😍😍
@NicolaRuns Thank you. ❤️
Pretty sure everyone cried with you at the end there Running Lady ❤ Your channel is wonderful, a great find, thank you x
Thank you so much for your kind words 💝 I hadn't intended for this to be an emotional video but it kind of happened to end up as one. Life is a rollercoaster hey?! 🙃
Merry Christmas and a happy new year with healed disc and much joy to you and Poppy xxxx
Awww thanks Emma, I hope you have a wonderful 2025 🤗🤗🤗
On my to do list as I used to live down by the Wellington Pier. It's a bit of a trek from Manc though! Btw, Wilmslow parkrun are well known locally for often having prosecco at the finish.
Brilliant! I love it when a parkrun has a reputation for something funny like that 🤣🤣🤣
