  • Thinking about applying to the Toledo Police Department? Ever wondered what the fitness requirements are to get into our academy? You’re in luck. Our new vlog shows you what to expect and the proper form, on which applicants are judged, for push-ups and sit-ups. It’s never too early to get to work.
    Ready for a challenge?
In conjunction with the Take it Off Toledo wellness campaign, we’d like to suggest testing yourself on our fitness standards. Record yourself doing as many sit-ups as possible, with the correct form, for one minute. Same for push-ups. Next, lace up your running shoes and hit the pavement (or track or treadmill) and log a 1.5-mile run. Snap a screen shot of your time. Post all three to social media and tag the Toledo Police Department (and use #takeitofftoledo). Retest yourself every week and track your progress.
The challenge is open to everyone, so get the whole family involved. See if you have what it takes to pass our fitness test.
Fitness standards are based on age and sex. To find yours, visit tpdhire.com and click on “applicant fitness standards.”
If you're interested in joining our team, go to TPDHire.com.

Push-ups become easy after awhile. Don't work on purely regular form either, integrate diamonds and wide push-ups too. Do 50 of each form. Progressively go from 150 - 300 and if you feel as though you're set for that. You can continue to add on. For the beginning, focus on counting. But as a certain point, stop counting. And just start doing them BUT do not end up doing less just because you don't have a number to them. It's easy to lower the bar once you don't have a set goal to achieve. Just do as many as your body allows, but make sure to take consistent breaks. They will build up your overall upper body, and hit the muscles that aren't usually hit while doing normal push-ups. That doesn't mean they're any less important. Just don't forget to do each form. You'll be doing insane amounts of push-ups as a result. Trust. Pull-ups are a different story, someone else might have some good insight to provide on it. I'm meh with them.

Training is different than educating. Generally, training means teaching police officers to react to a given situation in the field. Education involves developing the mental and moral tools police officers should possess to build strong relationships with the community. It will teach police officers to think about their response to various problems based on vast amounts of knowledge and then take thoughtful action to resolve a problem.
What they need is educating them on our Constitutional rights. Police officers enter their profession by taking an oath to the U.S. Constitution. So why is there no concerted effort to make police constitutionally literate? Just think about how much better the police-community relations would be if police were constitutionally literate.
Constitutional literacy entails knowing the Constitution sufficiently well enough to invoke it properly. Those who take an oath to the Constitution have the responsibility to know its contents and interpretations of it, such as court decisions that are professionally relevant. There's a lot of men and women that have a career in policing without ever even reading the Constitution. So how sincere is one's oath to the Constitution if one hasn't read it or doesn't understand it?
First of all, police academies should replace the standard five to six months of training with a two-year curriculum. In addition to the necessary physical, firearms, and tactics training, recruits should take classes that you might typically find in an undergraduate program - from criminal and constitutional law to sociology, psychology, and conflict resolution. A clear understanding of the nature of the society they will serve, and all its complexities are fundamental to any member of a service profession.
By doing a simple search on RUclips and watching a few videos of "First Amendment Audits" you can plainly see how ignorant most police officers are when it comes to our rights. So more education is needed, not just training. www.policechiefmagazine.org/education-offers-best-solution-for-police-misconduct/

The easiest shit on the planet. I mean, comparing my time in the army vs the entrance test and physical tests vs the ASVAB and BCT, becoming a police officer is the easiest when it comes to physical readiness.

Fingers don’t matter... all the way down is terrible for your spine... police departments should get with the times and learn new ways that are correct

can I from Southeast Asia join you? in my country the police are a very respectable job even the women here crave it, the test is very difficult 40sit up in 1 minute 40push up in 1 minute 17pull up in 1 minute 3mile in 12 minutes (value 100) shuttle run swimming, here the physical test is very easy to do, here it really requires requirements such as administration of a lot of files, very strict health, starting from teeth, skin, varicocele, varicose veins is very concerned about even psychology, interviews, physical, academic, which are very difficult to studied from mathematics to general knowledge and reasoning as well as nationality and the final court determined by the commander here, if I become a citizen there can I join you?

The PIGGS need to do the 5 yard dash and not drop the donuts, there is no fitness requirement for PIGGS as most of them cannot even run a block, without having a hearth attack

You might outrun this with their like 40 pounds of gear, but you won’t outlast majority of them.

these people would not pass in Norway.. First, we have the same exercise no matter age you are in. And it’s every third year after you have passed to be a Officer. Same in the Army. Stay fit, or get the fuck out.
