I was there, it was my first ever match. Such a great effort to get the snookers and to clear up like that. I was right in his eye-line for that final black and my heart was beating like mad

8:31 "Well played" by John Parrott. Classy.

I remember watching this at the time. Should have showed this frame from a bit earlier on. John Parrott potted the last red to leave Mike Hallett needing snookers and punched the air in celebration, as though he had already won the match. I thought it was disrespectful to his opponent, so it was great to see what happened after that.

Exactly that. Did the person who uploaded the video even watch or understand what went just before for context?

¨Hallett was unfortunate to be from the same era as these giants. I really liked his game.

Pockets were absolute buckets on those BCE tables. Played that difficult looking pink like it was over the pocket and it simply flew in. The middle pockets used to stick out aswell, I've seen it where the ball would drop into the middle pocket if it was going slowly up the cushion.

Great tryer Mike hallett, he had hendry by the balls in one final leading by over 6 frames but sadly fell apart only needing 2 or 3 frames to get over the finishing line, that was the best it ever got for Mike still he was a decent player.

And after this master tornemment Hendry would go on a run and dominate from 1989 to 1994 where he would lose to McManus in the final

Mind you in the 1991 Masters Hallett spared the rest of the field's blushes in the first session of the 1991 Masters final vs Hendry because the 3 opponents Hendry faced on the way to the final could only win 2 frames. It was 16-2. But Hallett took 7 framss in that first session to halve Hendry's aggregate advantage over the rest of the field and suddenly Hendry was only 16-9 vs the rest of the field.
Hendry initially improved his aggregate over the rest of the field and improved each year he entered but that ended abruptly In 1993 as Hendry dropped more frames vs the rest of the field in 1993 than in the first year he entered the tournament in 1989. Perhaps 1993 was the first sign (apart from Hallett 2 balls away from the title in the 1991 final) that Hendry's unbeaten run may not last that much longer when it appeared up to 1992 that Hendry would never lose there until he announced his retirement some way in the future.

Some poor safety there by JP. Got bossed throughout that entire exchange.

This was as good as it got for Hallett, he got turned over 9-0 in the final against Davis.

Hallett loses 9-0, 13-2 and 13-1 in a very short space of time in 1988.
Loses heavily to both Davis and Hendry most times that they met but beats Parrott twice in the Masters. Seems to have a terrible record against Davis and Hendry but has a great record against Parrott.
It's a pity Hallett didn't seem to do himaelf justice against Davis and Hendry but seemed quite good against other players in the top 16. He played the same game as Hendry, but nowhere near the success of Hendry. It's a shame he never achieved a lot more success because he was far more entertaining than the grindets and steady Eddie type players who were very dull to watch.
But who knows had Hallett potted that pink in 1991 Masters final.
