am in total agreement! They just chatted with each other like long-time friends would do, and it sounded so honest, heart-felt, and also totally unscripted. Steve Davis was my first snooker hero, and like him, I "hated" it when Stephen Hendry came along and won everything ALL the time! But now we've had Ronnie for two decades, and a new group of "youngsters" who are following him and nipping at his heels, and life goes on.
Preston Guild hall witnessed some fantastic players and matches, the old players always speak highly of Preston and the guild hall back room teams that looked after them .
I have 2 memories of the UK championships really. Alex Higgins coming back from 7-0 down against Davis in 83 and Willie Thorne leading Davis 12-6 and 13-8 and missing a blue off the spot to go 14-8 and eventually losing 16-14
The blue down the rail Stephen Hendry talks about was the 1990 UK champion final. That was his second victory of this tournament not the first. His first was the 1989 victory once again over Steve Davis.x
Hendry had still only won 3 world's when he was beaten by Ronnie in 1993. He went on to win 4 more prior to Ronnie winning his first! 1993 was not a changing of the guard; that would happen in 2004 when Ronnie really took the mantle from Hendry in winning his 2nd world title.
Steve has conveniently forgotten his 16-15 loss to Alex Higgins in 1983 after being 7-0 up. It's a pity the UK Championship doesn't have the longer format anymore, back in the day it was second to the World Championship in importance and glamour but not a very long way behind it.
Just seen Parrott ribbing Davis about '85 in this year's final as Jak Jones needs to catch up. Why Davis doesn't remind Parrott he beat him 18/3 in 1989, I'll never know
@@nomchompsky3012 Didn't think he was that great of a player to be honest. Yes, he did pull off some amazing shots but that's as far as it goes. Wouldn't even rank him in the top 5.
@@sltga1254 for an unorthodox way of hitting a ball he was brilliant you don't know snooker to say that. Plus he was half drunk all the time none of the other players to play like that in his State of Mind.
He's a good player but lacks charisma. (Not that he's the only snooker player that could be said of). Always seems like he's trying a bit too hard somehow.
@@katherinedavis3282 Murphy's obviously an intelligent and well read guy but he is a narcissist and loves the sound of his own voice. Some years ago in his twenties, he took intensive lessons on media speech: how and what to say when being interviewed, how to deliver punditry etc. This is why, in my opinion, his speech sounds so forced and contrived and littered with rehearsed terminology etc. I feel one of the reasons for his decline at the very highest level is his obsession with being involved with the media because of his narcissism; when he took a break from this, he nearly won the World Championship for a second time yet since then he hasn't been able to resist listening to his own voice. Quite tellingly, during the recent UK Championship final, his mic was accidentally left on when he was supposed to be off air and you could hear the arrogant way he was talking to someone on the phone, he even said "Shaun, Shaun, Shaun, Shaun, Shaun" presumably to make sure the other person was in no doubt who he is. I find it hard to dislike him but he's very openly judgemental about other players.
Question #1 to snooker fans out there: can Ronnie reach world championship #8, and if so, how long might it take him? And question # 2: of all the young ones rising to the top level of snooker, who among them might match Stephen and Ronnie's 7 wins?
I'll have a go at this. For title #8, next year. 2024 at the latest if Selby or Trump has a good 2023. And for who matches Hendry's & Ronnie's seven, I don't think they've been born yet.
1. Ronnie absolutely can - if he hits form at any tournament, he invariably wins it. Whether he will do it again at the Crucible before he loses the passion/ability is another question. 2. If I'd had to pick someone, I'd have said Yan Bingtao - something tells me he won't do it now.
He can but think it will need to be soon as he is going off a bit now .not that consistent and losing to players he would beat easy few years ago.ronnie and hendry were in league of their own .I can't see anyone doing what they did again.
OMG - one could listen to these guys all day.
This was the best interview from a group of guys I've ever seen.

Higgins is a legend ✨
He verbally abused young snooker players, and beat his wife. He wasn't a nice person.
