I can’t hate Moz. He’s always felt disconnected from others and their actions to the point where his utter disgust for humanity can not be hidden anymore. Loneliness is the cause for how he comes off lately. He’s older he doesn’t have much to lose now when he expresses his hate in interviews and such. One of the most disconnected humans from humanity. He’s not a figure to hate but a figure to study and try to understand.
I kind of understand that though as I find Humans quite stupid and ignorant and like sheep especially with what's happening now! No one questions anything and it's left to a few to shout out and do something XXX it hasn't changed but I would like to be proved wrong on that X ps do not like Morrissey's recent views but I suspect he wouldn't lose any sleep over that!💚
Nice one Muriel - God forbid these people are not feted just for existing- Julian Temple in particular comes out of this as a really nasty piece of entitlement.
THIS IS EXACTLY WHY I think some bands (recalling Radiohead and the smiths) always had issues with the media when it comes to music and the relationship with it. I have always found The Smiths a fucking brilliant band for the simplicity of it's lyrics while at the same time, they tell you something really raw but true.
I can't be the only person who gets a mental image of a ninety-piece orchestra jumping into a big foam box, wearing suits and holding their instruments...
I often think Moz overstates, but here he's right. It was/is political. His mistake is confusing 'pop' and 'popular music'; he's thinking of pop music as popular art, rather than easily-digested commercial pap. Back then there was still a struggle between these two fought out in the few media outlets, but then the internet came along and strangled the music biz as it was. TV talent shows really do mark the end point for pop music as music; Moz was right on that too, just 20 years early!
Town and Country club was such a great place in the late 80's. Quick one next door in the pub, wonder into the club, check out the unknown band. Great days.
I totally agree with Morrissey....pop music has still... up to this date.... this stigma of being made for stupid people, talking about stupid things just to have fun... i really hate that cause the industry wants us to consume all that crap just for the heck of entertaining.... That´s why I have always loved bands like The Smiths, or R.E.M. and even U2... for doing something else thank just entertaining... they were not changing the world in the 80s but they DO were saying what it was going on
*Michael Stipe stated that America in 1987 was Disneyland* *but then again he also said that REM were "one of the first bands with 'letters in their name'"*
Jagger and the stones lost all credibility when Brian Jones died. Simple. Morrissey is bang on here, more tv channels has resulted in deliberately not reflecting the times and filling up schedule's with shite, bloated over produced music videos/concerts and potentially good music shows full of unnessary banter *cough* T4 and the culture show *cough*
Good old Muriel. They sure don't make them like they used to. Could be even imagine Edith Bowman or Jo Whiley conducting an interview in such a manner - even having the desire to. The BBC and Channel really are in the toilet right now when it comes to substance!
A charity needs to set first before anyone can donate money. What did that lady expect Mick Jagger to do, go down to South America and hand out money to the victims?
Morrissey rocks.....................TOTP sucked big time and was completely asinine in it's extremely overlong life.. The Tube was the first rock programme on UK TV that reflected what was being written in Melody Maker and the NME; gritty, alternative and inspiring
Morrissey is a very perceptive guy and an imaginative creative artist, but I think he misses a point here. Popular music in its broadest sense covers a wide spectrum, from light hearted, feelgood party and dance tunes to deep, thought provoking soundtracks to the meaning of life and the state of the world, and there is a time and place for all of it. Rather than criticise shows like TOTP which are primarily a showcase designed for the former category, he should be advocating alternative platforms like my old favourite OGWT with artistic analysis from people like Whispering Bob, or an updated version of it, to showcase the “serious” creative side of population music like that of The Smiths.
This is fascinating, the barren lands after punk and before the internet gave us self broadcasted innovation via MySpace and RUclips, who better to comment than Mozzer himself. We all want Vera Lynn!
I hate Cliff Richard. Good old Muriel Gray at the end having a dig at the hypocrisy of multi-millionaire music artists trying to tell people were their money should be spent to help the latest trendy cause
If they thought music was trash and corporate in 1987 they should see the drivel today.
it's been *complete* rubbish since its inception
87 was pretty bad
Slightly sad to admit that I love listening to this man bloviate and bitch about things. It's soothing somehow.
indeed
- so in other words, you just like hearing him talk
Bloviate - spot on!
"The crowd has to exude this hysteria... Deliberately NOT reflecting the times." Hilariously on point.
The only person who could wear his own tee shirt and make it look cool

If only somebody had the guts Morrissey had today to speak out against all the crap that is out today...
You said this 12 years ago and it’s only getting worse
@@leespiderpod i said what I said lol 😭🤙🏽
Morrissey is still saying it and he has been branded a right wing reactionary while his views have never really changed
What's even sadder is that it's even worse today in popular music. It was almost like a prophecy what Moz was saying.
10 years later and it’s even worse
Haha she took Mick Jagger to the fucking cleaners at the end there

Is a sign of sanity to be maladjusted in this world.
Fair play to the interviewer at the end with Jagger. She cut right through the bullshit and owned him on his political/charitable affectations.
Yeah, Jagger comes across as an arrogant tosser, what a surprise! Think the interviewer was Muriel Gray, I could be wrong...
I loved it. He's an old creep and I like it especially when women don't bow to him.
The great Muriel Gray.
That clip of Mick Jagger is hilarious
mick jagger well and truly speared at the end there by the lady with the gorgeous Scots accent.
Muriel Gray.
I find it hilarious that he is wearing a Smiths tshirt.

morrissey in interviews reminds me of me at therapy

lol
😂😁
What he used to say passion for animals life's and his view on covid as he very correctly calls it
Amazing, so few comments on this subject. TOTP is absolutely revolting! I always loved how The Cure, always did their best to mock TOTP!
as always mozza hits it on the head and andi kershaw been through the the mill
And after this things got exponentially worse.
everything is *Political*
he basically wanted TOTP to be The old grey whistle test. Thanks for that, Morrissey.
Great point made by Mozza at 3:28
You see that kids? Pop music has ALWAYS been vapid and unimaginative.
Great clip! Jagger can dance!!
Would've been nice to see Jaggers full response...

Muriel Gray, a very smart person and a great interviewer.
engaging video...
Great going Mick !!

*Michael Stipe stated that America in 1987 was Disneyland*

I like Jaggers music (with the 60's and 70's Stones, at least), but he is indeed hypocrite.
I like that Muriel Gray.
For some reason, Morrisey reminds me of Will Young in this interview.
what was the name of this programme

Jo Whiley wouldve kissed ass as usual then name dropped all over her precocious radio show!!
This documentary seems to have been made in 1987 and is ahead of its time. TOTP didn't change and is now axed from our screens.
yes he's very cool isn't he, yeah
A charity needs to set first before anyone can donate money. What did that lady expect Mick Jagger to do, go down to South America and hand out money to the victims?

Morrissey has always had cool hair. Can you say that about ANYONE else?
Elvis and Morrissey had the best hair. The music's not bad either...😏

@sheywey I don't think so. At least he didn't reduce Susan Boyle to tears and prevent her from singing "Wild Horses" on American Idol.

Seems to me he sensed something quite sinister was going on at TOTP.
Mozz > Muhammad :P

Do you really believe that? The biggest mistake Smiths fans make is mistaking him for a humorless pr*ck. Half the things he says is Wildean fibs.
