I really like the RiteAid brand because it's not bright red and lathers more like a body wash. A lot of things will inactivate the chlorhexidine, and applying bleach cleaners to surfaces that frequently come in contact with chlorhexidine can cause permanent brownish stains.
If you are regularly using hibiclens hands you need to buy the larger bottle of hibiclens that has the pump top that dispenses it as foam. It is so much easier to use and is a game changer for minimizing the amount the amount that is wasted when you are using it. With the bottles that dispense it just as is in liquid form I was unintentionally using more than was necessary and half of it was not lathering very well, etc. Doesn’t happen with the foam.
I had a bone marrow transplant over the winter and I was required to shower (neck to toes) with Hibiclens once a day for the first few weeks to ensure that all bacteria was killed.
@@Anukii the genitals are included in that definition as well. Hibiclens instructions specifically state to avoid using the solution in the genital area.
Chlorhexidine (Walgreens brand) cured my persistent jock itch. I had bad flare-ups for months. I tried several home remedies and OTC products and the itch would still persist. It took about 5 days to finally eliminate to where I don't even have to put on anti-fungal cream. I haven't had a need to scratch at all. After 7 days I will back off to using it once per week just to make sure whatever I had doesn't come back. I was also getting a slight itch under my armpit. So I washed with CHG one time and the itch is gone. There was a small study done on CHG's effect on the groin. It eliminated 99% of all bacteria within 30 min of application. Also, people use it as an oral rinse too. I feel it is generally very safe. This stuff is a lifesaver.
@@timothyh1965 Use store brand Walgreens hibiclens (chlorhexidine Gluconate - CHG). I also buy store-brand anti-dandruff shampoo in both white and blue bottles. I make a big lather with all at the same time. Leave on for a minute or two then rinse. I only use anti-fungal and hydrocortisone cream if I get the occasional flare up which is a lot less severe and starting to be a rare occurrence.
Chlorhexidine hmm Interesting we use it here in Greece often in hospitals and of course its antiseptic brother povidone iodine (mostly in surgery aka betadine med.l.soap. 7,5 %). I honestly don't know myself if i these antiseptic agents work on feet and toe nail fungus 😅 probably no (my guess 😅). But Doctor Andrea is right these boys are more specific purposes and should not be misused. Skin issues like folliculitis and hidradenitis suppurativa are some examples given by Doctor Andrea. Please don't scorn the classic old friend "soap" because with water you can get rid of the harmful bacteria on your skin and the the beneficial ones untouched😊❤. Just put a little more faith and you all got this. Stay well❤.
I’ve suffered for 50 years with HS. Hibiclens *can* help, however my skin is so sensitive that the balance of good bacteria was destroyed and using Hibiclens made me get a yeast infection under my breasts.
Oh no, that's awful. That's something that's already a struggle for larger chests as well without the use of hibiclens. So I guess it's not safe to use there?

I love Hibiclens! It works on body acne!
Used this for years in underarm area it helps for underarm area. Also for Hydrenitis occaisional flare up. Not used daily.

Hi Mary Ann! Happy Thursday!! I hope you had a fabulous day my friend. 💕
I love hibiclens and I’ve kept it in the house for years.
I had foliculitis on my hairline and used Hibiclins to clear it up in less than a week!
My son got hot tub foliculitis from spending all day in the hot tub.
How many times a day did you use it?
@@imtherealtammygonna6216 once a day for a week
I use hibiclens nightly but only under my arms, my nether regions, my feet, belly button and behind my ears. I love this stuff.
Nether regions? Do you mean pubic area and groin?
@@noneofbusiness7739 let’s hope he doesn’t use it in public, in those areas 😂
@@robingeorgetowntx LOL. I meant pubic area. 😂
@@noneofbusiness7739 That’s what the nether regions are
@@Anukii the genitals are included in that definition as well.
What was your routine? I am also dealing with persistent jock itch. Would really appreciate any help
Your hair looks amazing!
Hi Dr Dray so excited to be here happy Thursday I live for this ❤️

What do you do to treat your hs ?? For your groin antibiotics humira has laser hair removal helped ?
I learned the hard way after surgery, that I was highly allergic to hibiclens. I developed contact allergic dermatitis everywhere it was applied. 😭
Me too!!
Both my sister and I have the same reaction
Yep. It’s incredibly strong, and just about stripped my hide off. I had to use it on my hip/lower back... Can’t imagine I’d have any skin barrier at all if I’d had to use it on my *face* ugh! I understand why people use it and why it’s helpful but for me? It’s AWFUL
Good morning Dr.Dray. Does hibiclens work for Folliculitis?
Yes, it absolutely works for me!!! 💯
Told to use it after surgery on incisions. I also use it to wash my hands before I put the botanical serum my plastic surgeon's esthetician gave me to put on where she did Morpheus8. Had colonoscopy yesterday. Used it to wash nether regions in bidet during the prep (only threw up 3 times), which made me feel so gross around butt, and for shower after prep and after procedure. Using arnica gel on hematoma where the colonoscopy nurse tried to insert iv. She said she hit a valve and had to stop. Success in inner elbow. Said they don't like it there cus they roll you over, for the endoscopy (have hiatal hernia). Hate the prep, but gotta do it. Had uncle die from colon cancer. They always find and remove polyps and biopsy them. Had squamous cell carcinoma removed from arm couple of months ago,
Used it for shower in the evening and the morning before surgery. It did dry up acne I had on my body. I used 4% sponges, 1.99 cad each in Canada.
Use it by mixing it in lotion to make a thick lotion, twice a day. Use it like lotion, not showering.
Nothing was helping my piercing and I developed a bump on one side of my piercing. Hibiclens saved that piercing and so quickly! It’d been a year of repeated infections.
If your pharmacy doesn’t carry it they can order it for you. It completely healed my piercing (naval) and never had another one.
How u used it
@@fancydoll54 straight from the bottle onto a q-tip moving the piercing around to make sure it got everywhere. I think you could use it in the shower too. The directions should be on the box 👍
I’m on a long term mirco dose of accutane for my facial acne. The low dose doesn’t keep my chest acne under control (which can be difficult). Using this twice a day keeps it fully clear, I only use it on my middle chest and no where else.
What’s your dose, if I may ask? We’re about to pick up accutane for my kid for mild acne so I think it’ll be a low dose.
I have chest acne as well has your doctor told you what exactly cause chest acne ?
It emphatically states do not use it above your neck.
Yet it was given to me to wash with prior to eye surgery.
I got conflicting information between doctors, nurses and from multiple sites on the internet
It can also be used on itchy, yeasty dog paws when diluted with about up to 10 times water. ♥
I use this too for my English Bulldogs paws.
I thought I had keratosis pilaris. It didn't go away with exfoliating and moisturizing (Urea, lactic acid, salicylic acid). Found out I had Folliculitis. I purchased Hibiclens and used it 2x a week for 2 weeks. Tiny bumps went away.
This is good to hear, I started to get it on my chest and It makes me insecure hope it works for me
@@tellbellOG you got any feedback?

LOVE YOUR EYESHADOW 💜
Chlorhexidine is in a lot of pet products too
Thank you for always having a video on something I need 🥰🥰
I have this in my bathroom right now. I try to keep it. My sons played HS football, there was a staph outbreak in the locker room that the school "neglected" to tell parents about, tons of fun ensued. Our doctor told us about Hibiclens and I've tried to keep it on hand ever since. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
Did he say how to use it ? My son currently has a staph epidermis rash and taking oral antibiotics but still not going away.
@yadirachavez9912 he told us to use it to clean the area of concern. Make sure not to get in eyes or around ears.
@ thank you for replying, I’m so worried about this, never had this before.
I appreciated this video so much. You are my hero ❤
Hi Dr Dray! I was just thinking of this product! Thanks for making this video! 😊
I was wondering if you can make a video on the best moisturizers to help with sensitive skin, hyperpigmentation and rosacea? :)
You can do a search, dr dray moisturizer sensitive skin (or rosacea). She's got videos. So do other derms actually; a search like, dr sensitive skin moisturizer, would also list videos.
I used this for my tattoo. So gentle and better than dial soap.
Good to know how to use it and where not to use it 👍🏻 Thank you ❤
Can you talk about using 3% sulfur cleansing bar (palmers) for both HS and eczema? Is the 10% de la Cruz mask you showed in a previous preferred over the bar soap for these conditions?
I think I stopped using this because I don’t want to destroy my skin barrier/biome. And superbugs are not great too as you said!
Happy Thursday, Dr. Dray ❤

Is there any hibiclens equivalent for face? thanks

Glad to see you again doc☺, is it ok to use paulas choice azelaic acid in the morning, and Finecea gel at night ?

My doctor literally put me on hibicons for my hidradenitis suppurativa
After I wash, and because I sweat a lot in these areas, I use this product on under my arms, under my breasts and under my muffin top. It works. It keeps the smell away. It's very expensive tho so I don't waste it.

What about Hibiclens vs Betadine (?) 🙄 uses, pros & cons, one vs the other ?
Is there a way to make it more absorbable by the skin?
How does it compare to benzoyl peroxide? Panoxyl has basically been magic for me for a wide range of skin complaints
I have used both and find the hibiclens to be less drying than panoxyl.
Which one is hibiclens?
chlorhexidine is a new one for me🤔 nice video!!
Thanks for watching
Want to try it. Any newer vids on summer skin irritants like sweating.
As a hidradenitis suppurativa warrior, hibiclens and I are bffs but unfortunately she and everything else I use is so drying 😭
I’m allergic to chlorhexidine so if I use this I just itch like mad and turn red
I used to try the hibiclens and it didn't really do anything for me, other than make me feel extra clean. Didn't help with my acne or anything, it wasn't this miracle product for me like it has been for so many others.
I guess im one of the few that is allergic and got a severe rash from it.🤷🏼♀️
Good morning doctor⛅️can you look into Atopalm /Derma B products when possible
there’s really no major risk of microbial resistance w/ benzoyl peroxide?
All I remember from ER work was that Hibiclens really dried out my hands. Dr Dray, can you do a video on MB for skin treatment? Such as Bluelene? Thanks!
Wow good video!! 👍
I learned im allergic to chlorhexidine at surgery prep. It gave me immediate hives
My vet even recommended it for a small cut on my cat's belly. I'd never heard of it before that.
